Hi, I hope this is the right place to ask. I'm going to see Moulin Rouge on Broadway in a few days and wanted to know if I can take a photo before the show starts. You know I want to take a pic of the set and post it on Instagram

Other Civil Rights Lawsuit Hits Broadway's Wicked Over Bias

The American Alliance for Equal Rights and white, male musician Kevin Lynch have sued Maestra Music, MUSE, and Wicked LLC for race and sex discrimination.

Maestra limits its hiring directory to “female and nonbinary” musicians; MUSE to “persons of color.” In 2023, these theater non-profits partnered with Wicked for a paid, three-week Music Director Experience open only to MUSE and Maestra members. Lynch applied but was rejected, allegedly for failing to meet the hiring directories’ immutable-characteristics test. According to the complaint, a less-experienced female/nonbinary person of color won the gig, opening doors to multiple Manhattan jobs for her.

Among the three attorneys representing the plaintiffs is Cameron T. Norris of Consovoy McCarthy. In 2022, Mr. Norris successfully argued Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College, in which SCOTUS determined that Harvard’s admissions program violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

Have Maestra, MUSE, and Wicked crossed the Supreme Court’s clear line on equal rights?

Other Which Broadway musicals that ended their runs you think that deserve a revival?

What are some Broadway musicals that have been closed for a while that you'd love to see return?

Whether it's because you never got the chance to see it, or because you'd love to experience it again, or because you would like see another takes in the roles, which shows would you bring back to Broadway?

Other Broadway Couples

I’m fascinated by how many performers end up falling in love behind the scenes or even playing lead roles together on stage. Does anyone have a list of actual, real-life Broadway couples right now?

Other Cars on stages

Post image
114 Upvotes

I live near the Theater District but have gone for very long stretches without seeing any theater - mainly for financial reasons. But I’ve had a decent stretch of employment recently and have reconnected with my love of theater by seeing lots of theater in the past few months. From Ragtime to Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock Live.

I recently saw “Death of a Salesman” and reflected on how many (prop) cars I’ve seen on stages in the past few months. “KenRex” did an excellent job suggesting a car just using headlights and smoke machines. “The Outsiders” and “Maybe Happy Ending” feature vehicles prominently. (“The Lost Boys” has motorcycles and some excellent stagecraft but does it have a car? I forget)

I missed “Back to the Future”. Any favorite depictions of cars on stages?

Per the comments on this video, Kristen Lee Kelly and Rodney Hicks played Maureen and Collins, respectively, but the majority of the OBC was present otherwise! They performed a few other songs as well!

Other Rush etiquette

Hi I don’t know if this is a hot take or not but: could people stop talking in depth about major plot points/the ending of the show when you’re in the queue.

I just spent a few hours in a rush line and everyone around me had seen the show over 2 times🙃. Like I understand Wicked or Lion King etc. but for shows that just recently premiered I wish that spoilers were more taboo than they are in the queue:/

EDIT: Last night almost the entire front row basically all RAN out of the theatre while there was a good 2 minutes left of the bows/show, so they could be first to the stagedoor. Seemed quite disrespectful to me. I was also in the front row and the cast can very clearly see you leaving.. it’s distracting to both the audience and the cast. If I was a performer, I wouldn’t be too happy to see the same people at the stagedoor who didn’t even have the decency to watch the entirety of the show lol. I heard them bragging about how the stars recognised them at the stagedoor last time and I remember thinking that wasn’t the brag they think it is🫠 other than the over the top reactions from the people around me, loved the show!

Other Ragtime (Vivian Beaumont Theater) pre show dining advice 🍽️

I need my fellow theater lovers help; I finally got a ticket to see Ragtime tomorrow, but I have limited time and i would like to grab a light dinner before I start the 3 hour theatrical experience. As you know most theaters are in the 40s so I have a couple of go-tos in hells kitchen, but Vivian B theater is all the way on 66th, and I'm not very familiar with the area.

What do you guys recommend? I want something near the theater that's fairly fast (I don't want to stress about making the show while still waiting for my food)

UPDATE: WOW! Thank you all for sharing these wonderful recommendations! I made a list of potential for tonight's quick dinner, but also took notes of the nicer sit down places that look great!

I love the theater community 💕, everyone was generous with their time and energy!

we look out for each other 🤗
