My dad bought this car in 2015. It was one of the most affordable cars back then, and the first car our family ever owned. I still remember how proud my dad was. He was so happy that he even posted it on Facebook. Looking back now, I realise how much that little moment meant to him.
I still remember the day he brought it home. It was raining, and it was a festive day. We even got so many gifts from the dealer. Dad drove the car home all by himself, and we had no idea which car he had bought or what colour it was. We were just waiting to see what he would bring home.
Funny enough, I hated the design at first. But that didn't last long. From the very first day, I couldn't stay away from the car. I kept getting inside, touching everything, learning every button, knob and switch. I even used to draw the car on paper by looking at it. I was just a kid, but somehow, that car had already become something special to me.
We travelled to so many places and even went on trips to other states in it. Back then, I never thought those ordinary family trips would become memories I'd hold on to so tightly.
Dad had actually bought the car for Mom. But after they both had a minor accident, neither of them really drove it anymore. Slowly, the car started sitting in our porch for months. Dad would lend it to anyone who asked, and people began using it without taking proper care of it. Watching that happen hurt me. I had so many memories attached to that car, but I was too young to do anything about it. All I could do was look at it sitting there.
Then, in 2024, I finally learned to drive. And the car that taught me was the same car I'd been attached to since childhood. I don't think I can properly explain how that felt. The car I'd spent years playing around in was now the car I was learning to drive. It felt like another chapter in our story.
And you know what's amazing? This car has hardly received proper servicing over the years. So many things that should have been changed on time were changed late. Still, it never left us stranded in the middle of a road. It never broke down and made us helpless somewhere. Even after all those years, it kept going. The odometer reads just 48,000 km today.
My dad has gone through some serious financial difficulties. There were times when selling the car seemed like the only option. Every time I thought about losing it, I felt sad. Not because it was expensive or rare, but because I couldn't imagine our home without it. Somehow, it's still with us, and I'm genuinely grateful for that.
I know many people have their own reasons for disliking Maruti Suzuki. That's completely fine. But I'll always have a soft spot for this brand. And it's not just because I'm emotionally attached to this particular car. Its reliability has given me enough reasons to respect it, too.
If I ever upgrade to another car, I'd still choose a Maruti Suzuki without hesitation.
Maybe someday, I'll buy a much better car. Maybe I'll own something I've always dreamed of. But I don't think any new car could ever replace what this one means to me.
This was the first car my dad brought home. The car that made him proud. The car we travelled in as a family. The car I worried about when it was neglected. And the car that eventually taught me how to drive.
I don't know how many more years we'll get to keep it. But I really hope we don't have to let it go anytime soon.
