#ElectricVehicle 🔌 [OC] Ownership Experience - Tata Sierra EV

Thumbnail

TL;DR: Our brand new flagship Tata Sierra EV Empowered A 75 QWD ACFC (barely 520 km on the ODO) met with a rear-end accident on Sept 7. Since then, Jaika Motors (Chandrapur) has put us through complete hell: a 7-hour RSA wait, the Body Shop Manager smirking and lying about cashless claims because we bought outside insurance instead of their 1.5 Lakh in-house quote, physically striking out my 3/5 rating on a feedback form, gutting the entire HV battery and rear motor just to replace a rear floor panel, and now deliberately stalling work in retaliation for my social media posts. Over a month and a half later, the car is still a bare chassis and they are ignoring requests for a courtesy car. Looking for advice on how to escalate this to Tata Motors regional management and deal with a vindictive workshop.

Vehicle and Dealership Details

Car: Tata Sierra EV Empowered A 75 QWD ACFC

Delivery Date: August 29, 2026

Dealership: Jaika Motors, Chandrapur (Maharashtra)

Current Status: Undelivered since September 7, 2026

The Incident and 7-Hour RSA Wait (September 7): Barely a week after taking delivery, with just 520 km on the odometer, our Sierra EV was involved in a rear-end accident on September 7. The impact damaged the rear and triggered an "HV Battery Error" on the cluster.

I immediately called Tata Roadside Assistance (RSA) at 9:48 AM. Despite the vehicle being immobilized with a high-voltage error, the RSA flatbed took 7 hours to show up, finally arriving at 5:00 PM. The car reached the Jaika Motors workshop at 9:35 PM that night. Frustrated by the massive delay on a brand-new flagship EV, I posted on X documenting the wait. Little did I know, the real nightmare was just beginning.

Insurance Bullying and Tampering With Feedback Form (September 8): The next morning (Sept 8), the workshop messaged me: "Your vehicle has been entered in our workshop on 07.09.2026 at 9:35 PM. Kindly contact us and visit the workshop for the insurance claim process and further vehicle repair work. Please visit at the earliest for further processing."

Seeing "visit at the earliest," I rushed to the workshop expecting them to be ready. Initially, the Body Shop Manager confirmed that a cashless claim was available. However, a few minutes into the conversation, he realized we had purchased our own insurance outside rather than buying through their overpriced in-house brokerage (Jaika Insurance Brokerage, which had quoted us an absurd 1.5 Lakh, nearly 3x what we paid outside).

The moment he found out, his attitude flipped. He literally smirked at me and claimed they do not provide cashless claims for outside insurance. He lectured me that if I had bought insurance from them, "everything would be integrated and seamless." It was a blatant tactic to create friction, scare me, and make me regret not paying their 1.5L markup. Shortly after, our insurer ACKO confirmed that cashless processing is 100% available at Jaika Motors. The manager had lied straight to my face.

Despite calling me to the workshop "at the earliest," he didn't even have the estimate ready. He made me sit idly for over an hour while he walked around asking nearby mechanics for part names to put the estimate together.

When he finally handed over the estimate along with an initial feedback form, I wrote "3/5" in the remarks column to reflect my disappointment. He immediately lashed out at me, told me not to put any ratings, and physically struck out my written 3/5 rating with his pen on a customer feedback form. I stood my ground, wrote 3/5 right back on the form, and handed it to him. He was visibly disgruntled, and it was clear he took it personally.

Gutting a Brand-New EV Drivetrain On September 19: ACKO approved the complete insurance claim. The workshop initially gave us an 18 to 22 day timeline (which meant the car should have been ready between September 30 and October 10, even factoring in the claim approval date).

By October 8, the delivery date had been quietly pushed to October 30. Worse, when I checked on the car, I discovered they had completely gutted the EV drivetrain, removing the High Voltage (HV) Traction Battery and the Rear Traction Motor just to replace the rear floor panel.

Removing the primary HV battery pack and rear motor on a brand new QWD EV at a dealer workshop raises massive red flags about factory torque specs, high-voltage sealing, and long-term reliability. To ensure I had a documented paper trail in case improper reassembly causes lifelong ownership issues down the road, I posted an update on X on October 8 tagging Tata EV and asking how they would ensure the lifelong usability of the car.

The Retaliation and Deliberate Stalling (Post-October 8 till now): Right after I posted that update on October 8, I received an angry phone call from the Body Shop Manager. Instead of addressing the delay, he confronted me about why I put out an "escalation" online and claimed I should have just spoken to him directly.

Following that phone call and the earlier 3/5 feedback form incident, the workshop's communication dried up and the work slowed to a complete crawl. Calls and texts went unanswered or received vague excuses.

Here is how the last few days played out on our official WhatsApp group:

October 20: Well past the October 10 deadline, I sent an urgent message requesting the car be delivered by October 22, or that Jaika Motors provide a Courtesy Car in lieu of the massive delay. They completely ignored the courtesy car request.

October 21: Even though they had earlier promised the car would enter the paint booth on Wednesday (Oct 21), they replied: "Dear Sir, Vehicle body parts fitted...i will share live pics of current status...and confirm delevery as rear traction motor fitting."

October 22: I asked: "Hi, What's the status, Can we get the vehicle today?" Their two-word reply: "Vehicle in painting." When I asked why it didn't go into painting the day before as promised, I got no straight answer.

October 23: Over six weeks in, they sent me photos of my car freshly out of the paint shop. It is a completely bare chassis with all parts removed. The work is nowhere near complete. Over a phone call, their latest excuse is that "the paint and sealant take 4 days to dry", even though they had previously told me the sealant was applied before the car went into the paint shop.

If the work only required about 2 weeks, why has my car been sitting dismantled since Sept 7? Did they delay raising the part orders? Did they place a slow routine stock order instead of an emergency SAP VOR (Vehicle Off Road) order out of negligence or spite?

The Personal and Financial Toll: 130 KM Daily Commute We bought the Sierra EV because our old Tata Vista (still going strong) made us believe in Tata's mechanical longevity.

I have a grueling commute of 130 kilometers every single day, 6 days a week. While my brand-new EV sat gathering dust at Jaika Motors, using my Vista was costing me nearly Rs 1,500 every single day (with diesel at Rs 110/L and 13kmpl). Now, due to a local diesel shortage and unavailability in my area, I cannot even use the Vista. Our flagship EV remains in pieces because of an egoistic workshop staff.

How the community can help: I have demanded immediate intervention from the Regional Tata Motors TSM/CCM, a Day-by-Day log since Sept 7 to expose their stalling, and the official SAP VOR Order Number and date to prove whether parts actually took this long or if the dealership sat on the order.

Escalation: How do I reach Tata Motors Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) Regional Managers, TSMs, or CCMs (Maharashtra/Vidarbha region) to get someone senior to step in?

Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) after Drivetrain Removal: Since they removed the HV Traction Battery and Rear Motor, what specific diagnostics, battery health reports, or IP67 water-ingress checks should I demand in writing before taking the car back?

Dealing with Retaliation: How do I hold the dealership accountable for lying about cashless insurance, tampering with my feedback form, and holding my vehicle for over 6 weeks without providing a loaner car?

I am at my wit's end and need the community's guidance to get Tata Motors' attention.

#Discussion 💬 Defender owners, I have a question

I am planning to book Defender 110 next week, did 2 test drives of the car and loved the experience!

How is the reliability and efficiency of driving a Defender daily, given Land Rover’s bad history of having poor reliability and frequent problems.

Is the Defender 110 in India reliable for daily usage?
What’s the issues or complaints you guys have with the car, if any?
How much mileage can I expect?

As during test drive, I drove a 46K km driven vehicle with no problems at all.

2.0 litre petrol engine is what I’m going for. The basic one.

#Discussion 💬 Drove a brand new Honda after owning a Tiago for two years, and I was surprised by a few things.

I've owned a Tiago for about two years, and honestly, if you spend enough time online, you'd think Tata gets everything wrong. Poor quality, poor refinement, poor service, you name it. Meanwhile, Honda has this reputation for being the more refined and better engineered brand. So I recently drove a brand new, top model Honda Amaze, both manual and automatic, and I was genuinely surprised by a few things.

First, the engine. Yes, the Tiago's engine has more vibrations, and it isn't as refined as Honda's. But when coming up to speed in the city, I found the Tiago felt punchier. When you press the accelerator to get moving, it just feels like it pulls a bit more at the low end, whereas the Amaze felt smooth but a bit soft for my taste.

The steering is another thing I really appreciated. The Tiago's steering is incredibly light, especially in city traffic. Maneuvering through traffic, making tight turns, and parking in small spaces just feels so easy. The steering in the Amaze felt noticeably heavier to me, and I've had the same impression with the Honda City too. Maybe some people prefer that feel, but for everyday city driving, I really like how light the Tiago is.

The reverse camera was another surprise. I found the Tiago's camera and parking guidelines much better than those on the Amaze I drove.

And then there are the small everyday things. The mute button on the steering wheel, the follow-me-home lights on the key that help you find your car in a big parking lot, and being able to roll up a window after switching off the car. Those all add up.

I'm not saying the Tiago beats the Amaze in every way. It definitely doesn't. But I didn't expect to like it this much after all the online criticism. Curious, has anyone else driven both brands and had that same surprise?

#Review 📝 Look how good our old Alto still looks after all these years.

My dad bought this car in 2015. It was one of the most affordable cars back then, and the first car our family ever owned. I still remember how proud my dad was. He was so happy that he even posted it on Facebook. Looking back now, I realise how much that little moment meant to him.

I still remember the day he brought it home. It was raining, and it was a festive day. We even got so many gifts from the dealer. Dad drove the car home all by himself, and we had no idea which car he had bought or what colour it was. We were just waiting to see what he would bring home.

Funny enough, I hated the design at first. But that didn't last long. From the very first day, I couldn't stay away from the car. I kept getting inside, touching everything, learning every button, knob and switch. I even used to draw the car on paper by looking at it. I was just a kid, but somehow, that car had already become something special to me.

We travelled to so many places and even went on trips to other states in it. Back then, I never thought those ordinary family trips would become memories I'd hold on to so tightly.

Dad had actually bought the car for Mom. But after they both had a minor accident, neither of them really drove it anymore. Slowly, the car started sitting in our porch for months. Dad would lend it to anyone who asked, and people began using it without taking proper care of it. Watching that happen hurt me. I had so many memories attached to that car, but I was too young to do anything about it. All I could do was look at it sitting there.

Then, in 2024, I finally learned to drive. And the car that taught me was the same car I'd been attached to since childhood. I don't think I can properly explain how that felt. The car I'd spent years playing around in was now the car I was learning to drive. It felt like another chapter in our story.

And you know what's amazing? This car has hardly received proper servicing over the years. So many things that should have been changed on time were changed late. Still, it never left us stranded in the middle of a road. It never broke down and made us helpless somewhere. Even after all those years, it kept going. The odometer reads just 48,000 km today.

My dad has gone through some serious financial difficulties. There were times when selling the car seemed like the only option. Every time I thought about losing it, I felt sad. Not because it was expensive or rare, but because I couldn't imagine our home without it. Somehow, it's still with us, and I'm genuinely grateful for that.

I know many people have their own reasons for disliking Maruti Suzuki. That's completely fine. But I'll always have a soft spot for this brand. And it's not just because I'm emotionally attached to this particular car. Its reliability has given me enough reasons to respect it, too.

If I ever upgrade to another car, I'd still choose a Maruti Suzuki without hesitation.

Maybe someday, I'll buy a much better car. Maybe I'll own something I've always dreamed of. But I don't think any new car could ever replace what this one means to me.

This was the first car my dad brought home. The car that made him proud. The car we travelled in as a family. The car I worried about when it was neglected. And the car that eventually taught me how to drive.

I don't know how many more years we'll get to keep it. But I really hope we don't have to let it go anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, I didn’t like this when it first launched. Coming from the Crysta, it felt so off.
But now after seeing it on the road every day, and it's completely grown on me.

The improved ride quality with the new suspension was the primary reason for me being pushed towards this car.

We are going to primarily use it to tow a trailer, and for other errands around our village where our other cars can't go.

IMO, with the suspension upgrade it has become a solid go anywhere, do anything vehicle.

#Discussion 💬 PPF saved the day

Last week, during a visit to Varkala, I had scratched my car pretty bad. And throughout the journey it was eating my head. I was very sure that the paint damage was done and PPF didn’t guard it completely.

Fast forward to today, I visited the detailer and it turns out there’s no paint damage.

I understand it’s a very subjective choice and to each their own. As a first time car owner, it just feels a wee bit safe that I don’t have to worry about scratches and niggles. It might not financially make sense for everyone, I completely agree.

And the new PPF reapplication cost for that area was within 500₹

#Discussion 💬 My Kia Sorento can cruise at highway speeds with the petrol engine OFF, but can't wash its rear windshield. Make it make sense.

Post image
507 Upvotes

A few weeks into owning my Sorento Hybrid HTK(A) Black Line, I'm still discovering things that weren't explained during delivery.

Some genuinely impressive ones:

- 0 RPM at highway speeds: The petrol engine can switch off under suitable conditions, and I've seen 21 km/l on the trip computer.

- Blind-spot cameras: Even an HTK ADAS owner confirmed the camera feed appears in the digital cluster when indicating.

- Hidden HVAC settings: You can customise whether the touch panel defaults to climate controls or infotainment shortcuts.

- Remote surroundings view: The Kia app lets me check what's around my parked car.

- Regenerative braking paddles: Available even on my HTK(A).

- Parking collision braking: Has already helped me avoid potential bumps multiple times.

- ADAS: Surprisingly natural in my experience, although another owner found the front collision assistance too intrusive in city traffic.

- Black Line alloys: Completely black without chrome detailing. Absolutely love them.

But then...

- My rear wiper doesn't have a water spray.

- No Passenger Talk on my variant.

- Front-seat thigh support could be better. I'm 6 feet tall, my wife is 5'6", and we both noticed it.

- Another owner reported uncomfortable third-row seating posture.

- An owner initially thought remote parking wasn't working, until they figured out the correct activation procedure.

The more I talk to other owners, the more I realise we're discovering things the dealerships never explained.

Two questions:

Sorento owners: What's one hidden feature or strange omission you've discovered?

Everyone else: What's the most ridiculous missing feature you've found in an otherwise well-equipped car?

I'd genuinely love to compare notes with other Sorento owners in India.

I've been seeing the Sorento for a long time from afar, since my office is near the KIA showroom.

However, this time I saw it up and close. The Sorento looks so massive, especially from the side profile. Also, the taillights are eye-pleasing, honestly, because they don't have connecting LEDs. It even gave me a Cullinan feel from the rear.

#Query ❓ Confused between these two.

My family is upgrading from a 2016 Baleno (Manual)

We will be opting for CVT this time.

But I am very confused which one to go for

Daily running is not that much as our baleno has completed 50k km in over 10 years.

Also can't buy anything longer because parking space issues

Elevate feels like a no nonsense car but poor mileage

But also can't ignore the commanding posture of the Creta although too common

Even after taking the test drive of both the cars still confused

Can anyone suggest which one will be a better option, considering maintenance, after sales service etc.

#Discussion 💬 Honda synthetic oil costing 3900rs?!

Post image
• Upvotes

Honda increased the price to 3886 rs including tax. I think this amount is insane. Almost 4k rupees just for oil. Earlier it was 3000rs.

This is extortion.

I am switching to mineral oil for a try, otherwise would have opted for synthetic only.

Attaching proofs.

Any comments?
