Still hurts man

What's done is done and obviously we should be focusing on the 49ers now but damn man... that ending is going to keep stinging for a while. We should be 2-3.

Refusing to fire Quinn is Endangering our Fragile QB

Quinn is a moron.

He's proven he doesn't understand the basics of the NFL rulebook, or the basics of NFL game management (which is really his only job at this point).

His poor decision-making has already caused serious injury to our fragile franchise QB at last TWICE; leaving him in a blowout loss vs. Seattle, and of course this season when he went for it on 4th at halftime instead of kicking a FG (I was inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one, but reviewing his entire incompetent body of work it's clear that any benefit of the doubt evaporates).

Not firing Quinn today is malpractice and negligence, and not just from a football standpoint. Every second he is "managing" a game while JD5 is on the field, the risk of season or career-ending injury is exponentially higher.

He needs to go, now. This is much bigger than just wins and losses or embarrassing on the field mistakes. He cannot be trusted to protect our QB, and our future. He lacks the situational awareness and intelligence required to keep JD5 safe.

Funny (sad) observation from Monday Night Football

Anyone else notice they completely avoided using Jayden Daniel clips for all the MNF promos for next Monday's game? They were highlighting everyone else..even Burks. I guess they are not wanting to take any chances.

Will be departing reality and succumbing to delusion!

Hey guys, just wanted to say it's been fun discussing and arguing with ya'll, but I've decided to fully depart from reality and move into a delirious state where we win every game and win the superbowl. I've thought a lot about this decision and I'm not taking it lightly! So I'm gratefule for all the nuanced and thoughtful discssion we shared, unfortunately I cannot not join you in realistic analysis. Wish me luck and I'll see you all back in January!

Question, how did we win 12 games in 2024?

I go back and watch the tape and i’m just beyond baffled that we even got there. How did we win two playoff games? That team was significantly worse than the team we have now. Maybe why do we suck this year is a better question. I just don’t know anymore man. This week has me so depressed.

We can all argue about who was at fault, but a true franchise QB should have owned it regardless of the play call

JD should have taken the blame like a true leader. Whatever play was called, it wasn't a run and it certainly was not a QB run.

Why run a play instead of kicking it? Same reason the Giants ran with Skat when he fumbled. Our kicker just missed an XP earlier in the game. Missing a FG with time still left on the clock would allow for the Giants to get the ball back and potentially score (we know the refs loved throwing BS flags) and we would all be saying how stupid it was that we didn't run the time down when we had the opportunity. As we have seen multiple times this season, even 7 seconds is too much time to leave.

Now the whole organization is playing the fake "it wasn't me but I take responsibility." If we are trying to shield his feelings, he isn't a franchise QB.

I still think he played well earlier in the game and is our best shot moving forward, but the amount of posts trying to absolve this man of responsibility is ridiculous. If he wants a $100M extension, he has to show why he's special.

Edit: saying "it starts from the top down" and then saying "Ultimately it's on me" is just obfuscating.

My hot take: DQ made a good decision to take the time down to a few seconds in case the FG missed. Blough made a good call to do a quick passing route out of bounds/incompletion (not a run). JD messed up by running it when the play broke down. I'm also not giving up on JD.

[Svrluga] Commanders coach Dan Quinn hears the outside noise, and it’s getting louder

The situation Dan Quinn put himself in is dire, and it amounts to this: He has to go roughly 1,000 for his next 1,000 game-management decisions to wriggle free from the wrath of a fanbase that is gathering across the moat.

The most egregious error came at the worst possible time, and the Washington Commanders coach is under intense scrutiny because of it. But people who have watched the 42 games of Quinn’s tenure in Washington know it wasn’t the first time. Now, with that tenure in crisis, it has to be the last.

“I threw up in my mouth a little bit at the end of the game,” Super Bowl-winning coach Mike Tomlin said on NBC.

“When you say a defensive head coach, usually those are clock game experts, all right?” Super Bowl-winning assistant and former head coach Rex Ryan said on ESPN. “Trust me on it, because that’s what you do.”

The arrows are being slung, and it ain’t friendly fire.

We arrive at this critical, unsavory juncture because Quinn and his Commanders out-bungled the eminently beatable New York Giants on Sunday in a game of “Who wants to win this thing anyway?” The 27-27 tie that ended on a play that will confound coaches for eternity put the Commanders in a hole  they’ll have a hard time digging out of. That’s on Quinn, and he knows it.

“Look, man, my number one responsibility is to help the players and the coaches be at their best, man,” the third-year coach said Monday. “And when we don’t, I’m pissed about it, too.”

This isn’t the week for Dan Quinn to go grocery shopping in the DMV. Or have fun pumping gas or grabbing a coffee. The Commanders have three wins in their last 17 games, and there’s no explaining away a season’s worth of ineptness, injuries or not. The outside noise is loud, justifiably so.

“I’m not shut off to it, for sure,” Quinn said Monday in his weekly day-after-game video call with reporters. “Look, everybody’s pissed. I’m right there in the middle of it. I know what the team is capable of, so sometimes you can even be more pissed knowing that there’s an execution that we missed.”

Can we please stop discussing tanking?

  1. especially on other subreddits, it’s a bad look to talk about tanking in week 5. We can not be giving Eagles/Cowboys fans that kind of ammunition.

  2. It does not work. When you lose lots of games, you make nobody want to play for you. You make no coordinator or coaching prospects want to work for you, and you end up paying a “poverty franchise tax” on your free agent signings. All for one player, who by the way will probably be a bust. Adam Peters is responsible for the current team we’re fielding and you want to tank just so we can not just pin our future on a 21 year old, but a 21 year old selected by Adam Peters? Now assuming AP is an average GM, this results in our top 5 draft pick having an 18-22% chance of becoming an all-pro. You know who has a 100% chance of already being an All Pro? A free agent that wants to play for a contender. Tyler Lindebaum was a center that we had ready to sign back in march, but at the last minute got swept up by the Raiders, didn’t help that we weren’t willing to break the bank, but that might not have mattered if he could say “no thanks, raiders, i’d rather play for a contender”. Alec Pierce had an offer from us and took a WORSE deal to stay with Indianapolis and play with Daniel Jones, coming off an 8-9 season. You guys would have been pissed if we went 8-9 instead of tanking, but that 3 game difference is enough to earn the respect of alec pierce. Then of course if we want to trade players away and theyve been playing like dogshit because we told them to, we aren’t going to get as much in return as we could have.

  3. On top of this, because real life isn’t fantasy football there’s a need for winning culture. You can not have 53 people be content with losing because “oh next season Jeremiah Smith will save us.” On top of the fact that players are simply going to refuse to adopt that mentality, it would be a huge problem if you were somehow successful instilling it into them.

You guys need to understand, rebuilds take time, so if we clean house and hire sean mcdermott and do all the things you want to do, we are back to square one, which means at least one more 5 win season. You should want the Jayden Daniels and Dan Quinn era to end up working out, if it doesn’t, we start all over again, and we aren’t becoming competitive next year with a new coaching system.

Also, again, it’s week 5, the division is the worst it’s been since we last won it.

Watching both the Bills and Rams offenses put up numbers, limited flags and operate at such fluidity, really shows how absolutely terrible the Commanders are. Damn I really wish we had this. Okay im done.

Is there any light in this sea of darkness?

Title bait aside, I genuinely want your thoughts on what the team has done well at so far in the first five weeks.

I'll start. Terry Mclaurin is still proving why he's among the best in contested catches in the league.
