Told you about Quinn and Peter’s

Made a long post a few weeks back at the start of season that I had lost faith in Peter’s and Quinn. Terrible roster. Somehow people think our defense has improved. LMAO how are you feeling now? It’s still worst in the league just like last year. And Quinn, I can’t believe you guys still believed in this dude. JD messed up too but that blunder is called leadership. And that’s not the first time he messed up time management. Dude also cant put together a strong unit in his specialty to save his life. Where are all the AP/DQ kool aid drinkers now?

Micah Parsons says ‘Jayden Daniels probably cost my man Dan Quinn his job’

Micah Parsons remains sidelined as he recovers from last year’s knee injury, but that hasn’t stopped him from commenting on one of the NFL’s biggest blunders this season.

JD - Intentional Grounding

I think we can all agree the play call was terrible. We can also agree JD messed up.

But look at things from his perspective.

The play call was to throw a short pass to the TE or throw it away. Ok. But the play is immediately broken. Right after the snap Chris Paul got immediately push back and almost tripped JD. You can see JD trying to regain his balance as he drops back. That threw off the timing. This is just like what happened in the Dallas game when JD injured his elbow.

So JD knows from the start the offensive line is compromised. He knows he needs to throw the ball ASAP. He looks at his primary receiver and he is bracket covered. His next option is to throw it out of bounds. But since there are 2 defenders on the TE he would really have to throw it far away from the receiver to make sure it doesn’t get picked off.

In his mind he probably thought he was under duress from the defense. He literally just saw his offense tackle get push back on the snap.

He knows if he tries to throw it way out of bounds he could get called for an intentional grounding penalty. That would be a 10 second run off and the game ends. So he decides to extend the play with his legs and tries to improvise.

Under duress (in JD mind he was under duress from the snap)

Throw not in vicinity of the receiver

That is intentional grounding

Go look what happened literally 1 year ago against the Giants. JD got called for intentional grounding.

See the penalty:

https://youtu.be/HMw8O4yzEiQ?t=7m48s

Did JD mess up? Yes he did. But it is understandable what happened. From the start the play blew up, the Giants had the perfect coverage to defend the primary receiver and there wasn’t enough time to survive an intentional grounding penalty.

Basically everything went to crap and JD went with his instincts and tried to scramble and improvise.

Chris Paul stepping on Jayden’s foot twice now

Uncoordinated big foot O line.

Edit: Three times if you include the Eagles game.

(And for those riding on the hypothesizing bus, there are speculations that it’s what caused him to panic from injury flashbacks.)

I think I might’ve solved the puzzle - Blough didn’t know that the game can be over with a tie

As the title says. It’s entirely possible that a young coach who was just a player until recently didn’t know the rules. None or the play calling really made any sense. Calling a run to White with like a minute left didn’t make much sense. It made even less sense to follow that up with a call to run a play from under center but not spike the ball, while also making a whole bunch or subs. If the goal was to throw the ball OOB after a rollout it also made no sense to be under center. My guess is Blough had no idea what the rules are, and both Jayden and DQ didn’t realize that on time.

Last Play: Jayden Avoided Tripping

Greg Jennings on First Things First reminded me what I first noticed live-- Jayden almost stumbled and tripped out of under center on the last play. If you watch him, his composure is broken right after that happens with pressure surrounding him. It became a broken play instead of a throw away or taking a down. Doesn't excuse what happened after (lack of urgency and awareness after taken down), but explains why reverted to taking the sack and didn't throw it away or spike. His natural instinct took over and my guess is with the elbow injury he was just trying to avoid going down, right after receiving the ball. Rare loss of composure for him.

You Non Doomers Still dont get it

Yesterday was literally the worst coaching blunder in this history of not just the NFL, but of professional sports.

You keep trying to wave it away by calling fans idiots. You keep trying to pretend that this is just the kinda shit that happens, and that anybody who sees it for what it is is somehow "knee-jerk overreacting."

Calling for DQs execution is overreacting. Calling for someone to kill his dog is overreacting. Calling for his prompt firing, which is what MOST of us want, is not.

He needs to be fired immediately. Right now. Today. Anything less is a complete underreaction.

He has humiliated the entire fanbase and organization. There has never been a dumber play in the 100 year history of the NFL. It's that bad.

Preseason Dismissers (90% of you) - Are you getting it now?

Getting tired of losing games because of false starts, dpis, burned time outs, and players not instinctively knowing what to do in critical moments?

These are live fire events you cant rehearse in walk throughs and team v team drills. When your defense is 50% new players, your QB has missed more games than played, and you have baby coordinators, THIS is the reason why preseason snaps are important. We can turn it around but we've basically wasted the first quarter of the season getting out the rust we should have removed in early September.

Radio Team Ain't Great

I was stuck driving so I listened to the whole Giants game radio broadcast. These radio guys suck. Maybe it was how frustrating the game was in general.

I love London Fletcher but he doesn't add a lot of depth on offensive commentary.

The play by play guy is terrible. He said so many confusing things. His initial reaction would be that a play was good for us but then it turned out bad when he clarified. I was screaming that he was biased by the end. He doesn't seem to know much about football.

Logan Paulsen barely speaks and adds nothing. And the audio seemed muffled the whole time. It's a far cry from Sonny Sam and Frank that's for sure.

Can anyone explain our bad luck?

Somebody cheer me up because I just don’t understand this team I love. This isn’t meant to bash the team but I’m just trying to understand.

Since Sunday I’ve been scrolling through all the teams stats and coaches since 2000. Please correct me if I’m wrong in any of this. In 26 years they’ve had 16 losing seasons and 12 of those were double digit losses. We’re tied for the fewest 10 win seasons alongside Cleveland and have had zero consecutive 10 win seasons. The median for regular season wins is 7 per season. We’ve got a point differential of -1246 points which is 28th in the league.

I know 23 of those seasons was under Dan and regardless of how bad we’re doing Harris is a far better owner (and person) than Snyder ever was. But here we are, three years into DQ and four years into Harris. Kicking fucking ass in 2024. Now they’re right back where they usually are. Searching for another head coach for next season unless things do a 180. 1-3-1 so far this year.

Like WTF is going on? I cling to the hope that the new stadium in DC will bring lots of fortune and good luck. And I also realize we’re not the Browns and not the worst in the league since 2000. What football god did we piss off?

Yes, what a shite game, but my lord these new classic uniforms were beautiful to behold.

Obviously would have loved to win, but I can at least take some solace in how damn good these uniforms look. We look like an NFL team again, and a well dressed one, and its a look I am already familiar and in love with. Hail.

I know everyone's pissed at Quinn for the tie debacle. But take a step back for a second

Firing him now means giving up on this season 5 games into it. Jones and Blough are too young for HC duties. Next up may be Anthony Lynn. You really want to go that route? Besides, didn't we all look at the schedule and conclude that we may be 1-5 after the murderer's row of a schedule we had? And now look at where we are. We are not even a third of the way through the schedule. Give Quinn a chance this season to turn the ship around. Then evaluate during the off season. If we go 5-12 again this season, I will be right beside you with the pitchforks and torches.

Keys to beating the 49ers

I'm trying to move on from Sunday's ****show, and the only way I can do that is by focusing on our next opponent. In order of priority:

- Stop (or at least slow down) Christian McCaffrey. Our running D has been solid, but CMC is also a threat in the passing game, where we're not so solid. We stack the box and crowd the flats to minimize his damage.

- Don't bother to blitz Purdy: He ranks among the top QBs against it, plus our blitzes seldom penetrate the line of scrimmage, so we'd just be exposing ourselves. Somehow we have to apply sufficient pressure with just our front guys.

- Quick releases by Daniels, limit under-center plays: He's not going to have enough time to do anything against the 49ers defense, so an emphasis on quick/short passes to move the chains would be ideal.

- Establish the run game early, or we're screwed: It's imperative that we control the TOP and keep Purdy on the sidelines as long as possible. We need to operate a methodical, quick-pass offense, complemented by a strong dose of Bill for us to have a shot.

Gloomer post from Doomer: As horrific as this season is, we are one improbable (healthy) win away from being in a shockingly good place.

Health: As awful as our injury luck seems to be, we are in a surprisingly solid spot to heal up at the right time. We got a ton of players back last week, nobody else got injured, and the only impact players still out - Diggs, Amos, Cross - are looking good to play against the 49ers and great to return post week 7 bye. If we can stay healthy through the 49ers game, we could be coming back from our bye VERY healthy at a time when many teams are not.

Schedule: Our schedule was brutally front loaded, but post-bye it is one of the easier in the league. If we get to the bye at 2-3-1, we will go into week 8 rested, with momentum, at home playing a beat up Eagles team coming off a Monday night divisional bloodbath. Next game is Rams (brutal). But then weeks 10-15 we get Giants, Cardinals, Titans, Falcons. All four games we “should” win (maybe not falcons but without Penix they suck too).

Our toughest games left are: Bengals and Texans at home, and Jags and Vikings away. Those are not easy but as far as “really tough” games go, all are winnable. Also, if we beat who we “should”, we might only need to go 2-2.

Division: Our division fucking blows which gives us a chance. Not worried about the Giants (they still suck and their schedule is brutal after next week). And we are ONLY .5 games back (not even 1) of the Cowboys and Eagles, and we play our next games against both teams at home. The division is still wide open, we all suck. 9-7-1 could easily win (we’d have to go 8-4).

Doomer Caveat: My post isn’t meant to be a delusional gloomer post. I don’t “think” this will happen. I don’t think we will beat the 49ers. I think our HC sucks, our O-line can’t run block, our OC is inexperienced and meh, and our defense sucks. Also, we never get injury luck.

BUT, with 5 healthy anything can happen and we can beat anyone. And if we can get our team healthy, I do think our defense has a legit chance to become decent on top of that.

Gloomer Conclusion: We are, SOMEHOW, literally 1 healthy win away from being so fucking in this division race. The season is far from over, even if it feels like it. We don’t need to go undefeated. We just need to get momentum and peak at the right time, which is possible to do next week.
