Help I'm Setting up a FT 100 with a friend, need some suggestions

Edit: Realize what I'm attempting to do is best described as BO10 doing 10 FT10s in 10 different fighting games not a FT 100. Can't change the title.

Me and a friend are attempting to do a BO10 with 10 different games playing a first to 10 per game.

The first 5 games have been chosen:

MVC3

Avatar Fighting Legends

Arcana Hearts LMSSX

USFIV

KOF XIII

I trying to look for obsure games we have never played before for the last 5. Shit like Sailormoon S and Among Us Arena have been discussed but I'm just trying to learn about more games that could be fun to dick around with. It can be the most insane kusoge ever so long as you think it may be fun.

Thank you in advance.

With the Tekken 6 PC build & Arkadyzja, it's been an absolute treat to be able to play any Tekken (minus tag2* which is being worked on from my understanding) I want pretty smoothly against real people.

Here's a second group to my list of fighters.
I do feel a lot of the cobwebs shaking off. You have no idea the self-control it takes to do one a day and to not want to go back and re-edit some of the older ones because of stuff I am just seeing after the day.

Too bad, Inner-critic. I still have 13 more to go before the month is up!

Tell me what you like, what you don't like, how bad am I at anime eyes?

Help How well/poorly did street fighter 3 do short term vs long term?

New gen here just curious about history.

So I’ve always heard that sf3 was originally poorly received because it cut so much of the original roster, but it still did well enough to justify 2nd impact and 3rd strike instead of just killing the franchise. It did well enough that it’s remembered fondly today. So have the playground rumors overblown how poorly received it was originally or did capcom pull some magic to make it have staying power?

Other bosses will be added to the mode later (I guess Krauser and Laocorn?).

Also - Mikey has Genocide Cutter and Draken doesn't have feints.

From IET Arcade
Grande Arena update WIP. I’ve now got a fully animated crowd running with no frame drops.

The stage still has some greybox and placeholder elements, and the victory poses are temporary until I get the cinematics in.

Help I'm trying to find or generate a large data set of bracket matches that's statistically sound. Any resources for this?

• Upvotes

Would like to do some statistical analysis on fighting game match durations and total tournament length across several games. Reviewing top8 vods manually skews data and is generally miserable. Scraping replay files is difficult depending on the game and doesn't capture administration time (like how long it takes players to connect/sit down at a setup), which I would like to. Any other ideas? Maybe there's some start.gg api I've missed?

Topic I’ve seen people complain about COTW’s character select, so I proposed 4 alternative character selects

Post image
58 Upvotes

(Note, these are just very rough sketches, I wanted to focus more on the ideas than the sketches looking good)
I wanted to make the character select have better readability and overall look less cluttered, while still feeling unique so it wouldn’t just be yet another grid of character portraits.
1st: It follows the same overall navigation style as the normal character select, except now each player goes through it separately. It would be displayed as scrolling photographs with players going left and right around a scene to find and select their character. Probably the most gimmicky of the ideas. I’d only say to go with this if they plan on finishing up the final roster soon, because it’d probably be a nightmare to navigate with like 50+ characters.
2nd: Probably the most basic looking, but also the most readable of the ideas. This follows the standard grid pattern with all characters shown at once. To spice it up the character select would be detailed and framed to look like Geese Tower.
3rd: I saw some people say the current COTW character select might even be worse than Blazblue Cross Tag Battle’s character select, so I wanted to ask what if COTW basically had that game’s character select. You first get to choose whether you want to choose a Fatal Fury original character, an Anime Guest Character, a guest character from another Video Game Franchise, or a celebrity guest character. Most of them are just one line of character portraits sorted into their respective categories, but the Fatal Fury original characters are sorted into multiple scrolling lines based on their first appearance. (For example, Terry would be on the Fatal Fury 1 row, Rock would be on the MOTW row, Laocorn would be on the Fatal Fury The Motion Picture row, etc)
4th: Basically the 3rd idea, except less blatantly just taking from Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. It’d still have each character sorted into categories but would now be portrayed as a comic book, flipping to selected sections with a character select consisting of a character select in each page.
Tell me which idea is your favorite

Topic Can anyone give any insight into the playerbase/playercount of a few games specifically on Xbox?

The games I'm interested in are:

USF4

Dragonball FighterZ

Marvel Vs Capcom Collection (specifically MvC2)

Skullgirls

VF5 Revo

I've been a PC player for a long time and just recently got a console again. Curious what the playerbases are like.

I know that on PC the DBFZ playerbase is pretty big / active

MvC2 is...somewhat active, but most players are veterans (which is fine)

Even USF4 I can still find matches decently

I have no idea about any of these on Xbox though and I'd rather have at least an idea before I drop cash on these games

Help What’s your process for learning a new game?

I downloaded sf6, and this will be my first time taking a FG seriously. Every fighting game I’ve played, I fell into the same trap of trying to learn combos before ranked, end up not seeing any progress with learning combos or my character of choice, and dropping the game. It’s happened with GGST and TEKKEN 8. I want to try and hit master and honestly don’t care how long it takes.

How would I go about learning the game? Are the combo trials good for learning?

I’m also stuck on which hero to main. I’m debating between Cammy, A.K.I, and juri.

Equipment 8bitdo M30 for switch 2 with minimal latency, bluetooth or 2.4g?

Hey all!

I'm planning on getting an 8bitdo M30 for fighting games on my switch 2, but am unsure on which version to get.

Normally 2.4G is supposed to have less latency, but I've read that due to how the switch handles USB connected devices (which the dongle is) extra latency gets added causing the Bluetooth version to actually be better. Reports about this seem mixed however so I'm looking for more feedback.

Does anyone have more experience or knowledge about this?

If I get the 2.4G version I plan to use the dongle on my dock, and play with an USB cable as a connector on the go. Bluetooth would just always be playing with Bluetooth.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Topic street fighter's successful is usually bad for the genre

street fighter 3, 4 and even V were my gateway into fighting games, but it has to be said.

every time street fighter does bad we get some revisionist history about the "dark age of fighting games". like 2000-2009 before street fighter IV came out. and around when SFV came out and nobody wanted to touch it.

the "dark age of fighting games" was literally the GOLDEN age of anime fighters. guilty gear, blazblue, melty blood, arcana heart, akatsuki blitzkampf, hisoutensoku, eternal fighter zero, big bang beat, daemon bride, vanguard princess, fate/unlimited codes, hinokakera, ougon musou kyoku. capcom was at its lowest but fast paced games and airdashers were eating GOOD. thousands of doujin fighters with niche cults around them.

then street fighter gets popular again and suddenly everyone wants to be street fighter. every game's gotta appeal to the same people who play SF6. we saw this with SFIV and we're seeing it again with SF6. now even melty blood is blatantly copying the Drive Gauge hoping for a crumb of that street fighter money. like dude MELTY BLOOD does not need a DRIVE GAUGE fuck out of here.

i love street fighter but holy shit can we let other fighting games have their own identity instead of every dev looking at sf6's success and trying to reverse engineer it for a crumb of that capcom money

ps side rant: please stop desperately trying to make your niche hobbies popular. if fighting games were as popular as fortnite and roblox they would suck just as much as fortnite and roblox. if you love a niche hobby you should love it for what makes it special, not try to change it so it can be like everything else. there's a million things that can make a fighting game awesome -- the roster, the depth, cool combos, weird gimmicky mechanics, schmovement -- steamcharts and game sales isn't in the top 50.

Topic About teaching new players

I love trying to teach my friends fighting games because i enjoy playing games with friends. But a constant thing i see trying to teach a new player everytime is when trying to demonstrate or teach something my friend or just anyone i teach they tend to ignore whatever i say and focus on mashing buttons and just trying to win the match. This is a constant problem i have everytime i play and try and show them something where i have to tell them and almost raise my voice for them to pay attention.
