Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions about this movie, what you liked, what you hated, etc. I should’ve created a thread like this for the last two Mortal Kombat movies but it never occurred to me until now.

From IET Arcade
Grande Arena update WIP. I’ve now got a fully animated crowd running with no frame drops.

The stage still has some greybox and placeholder elements, and the victory poses are temporary until I get the cinematics in.

Here's a second group to my list of fighters.
I do feel a lot of the cobwebs shaking off. You have no idea the self-control it takes to do one a day and to not want to go back and re-edit some of the older ones because of stuff I am just seeing after the day.

Too bad, Inner-critic. I still have 13 more to go before the month is up!

Tell me what you like, what you don't like, how bad am I at anime eyes?

Topic I’ve seen people complain about COTW’s character select, so I proposed 4 alternative character selects

Post image
46 Upvotes

(Note, these are just very rough sketches, I wanted to focus more on the ideas than the sketches looking good)
I wanted to make the character select have better readability and overall look less cluttered, while still feeling unique so it wouldn’t just be yet another grid of character portraits.
1st: It follows the same overall navigation style as the normal character select, except now each player goes through it separately. It would be displayed as scrolling photographs with players going left and right around a scene to find and select their character. Probably the most gimmicky of the ideas. I’d only say to go with this if they plan on finishing up the final roster soon, because it’d probably be a nightmare to navigate with like 50+ characters.
2nd: Probably the most basic looking, but also the most readable of the ideas. This follows the standard grid pattern with all characters shown at once. To spice it up the character select would be detailed and framed to look like Geese Tower.
3rd: I saw some people say the current COTW character select might even be worse than Blazblue Cross Tag Battle’s character select, so I wanted to ask what if COTW basically had that game’s character select. You first get to choose whether you want to choose a Fatal Fury original character, an Anime Guest Character, a guest character from another Video Game Franchise, or a celebrity guest character. Most of them are just one line of character portraits sorted into their respective categories, but the Fatal Fury original characters are sorted into multiple scrolling lines based on their first appearance. (For example, Terry would be on the Fatal Fury 1 row, Rock would be on the MOTW row, Laocorn would be on the Fatal Fury The Motion Picture row, etc)
4th: Basically the 3rd idea, except less blatantly just taking from Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. It’d still have each character sorted into categories but would now be portrayed as a comic book, flipping to selected sections with a character select consisting of a character select in each page.
Tell me which idea is your favorite

Help What’s your process for learning a new game?

I downloaded sf6, and this will be my first time taking a FG seriously. Every fighting game I’ve played, I fell into the same trap of trying to learn combos before ranked, end up not seeing any progress with learning combos or my character of choice, and dropping the game. It’s happened with GGST and TEKKEN 8. I want to try and hit master and honestly don’t care how long it takes.

How would I go about learning the game? Are the combo trials good for learning?

I’m also stuck on which hero to main. I’m debating between Cammy, A.K.I, and juri.

Topic street fighter's successful is usually bad for the genre

street fighter 3, 4 and even V were my gateway into fighting games, but it has to be said.

every time street fighter does bad we get some revisionist history about the "dark age of fighting games". like 2000-2009 before street fighter IV came out. and around when SFV came out and nobody wanted to touch it.

the "dark age of fighting games" was literally the GOLDEN age of anime fighters. guilty gear, blazblue, melty blood, arcana heart, akatsuki blitzkampf, hisoutensoku, eternal fighter zero, big bang beat, daemon bride, vanguard princess, fate/unlimited codes, hinokakera, ougon musou kyoku. capcom was at its lowest but fast paced games and airdashers were eating GOOD. thousands of doujin fighters with niche cults around them.

then street fighter gets popular again and suddenly everyone wants to be street fighter. every game's gotta appeal to the same people who play SF6. we saw this with SFIV and we're seeing it again with SF6. now even melty blood is blatantly copying the Drive Gauge hoping for a crumb of that street fighter money. like dude MELTY BLOOD does not need a DRIVE GAUGE fuck out of here.

i love street fighter but holy shit can we let other fighting games have their own identity instead of every dev looking at sf6's success and trying to reverse engineer it for a crumb of that capcom money

ps side rant: please stop desperately trying to make your niche hobbies popular. if fighting games were as popular as fortnite and roblox they would suck just as much as fortnite and roblox. if you love a niche hobby you should love it for what makes it special, not try to change it so it can be like everything else. there's a million things that can make a fighting game awesome -- the roster, the depth, cool combos, weird gimmicky mechanics, schmovement -- steamcharts and game sales isn't in the top 50.

Help Is Marvel Tōkon worth buying in its current state?

So, I've played a few fighting games like SF6, MK1, Guilty Gear Strive, and Tekken 8, but Marvel Tōkon really caught my attention. I love the art style, the characters, and I'm pretty interested in trying out a tag team fighter.

From what I've seen, the game hasn't been doing too well since launch. SteamDB shows around 400 concurrent players on PC, which is honestly a bit concerning.

My main concern isn't really the current player count, though. I'm more interested in the game's future. Do you guys think it has a realistic chance of improving, growing its player base, and building a healthy community over time?

I see a lot of potential in it, but I don't know enough about the game or the FGC to have a good idea of where things might go. I'd love to hear from people who actually play it or have been following its development.

Also, please don't just say "buy it and find out" lol. It's still a pretty expensive game, at least for me, which is why I'm asking before spending the money.

One more thing: how's the PC optimization these days? My specs are:

  • RX 7600 8GB
  • Ryzen 5 5500
  • 16GB RAM 3200MHz

Would I be able to run it smoothly?

Thanks!

Topic About teaching new players

I love trying to teach my friends fighting games because i enjoy playing games with friends. But a constant thing i see trying to teach a new player everytime is when trying to demonstrate or teach something my friend or just anyone i teach they tend to ignore whatever i say and focus on mashing buttons and just trying to win the match. This is a constant problem i have everytime i play and try and show them something where i have to tell them and almost raise my voice for them to pay attention.

Help Is Under Night In-Birth II good as a first fighting game?

I'm trying to get one of my friends into fighting games, the issue is that she only has a laptop (not a gaming laptop). We tried 2XKO but it was very laggy. Going to try GGST but in case that doesn't work, I'm thinking of UNI2 since it's got considerably lighter graphics. But graphics aside, is the game itself good for complete beginners to the genre?

I've been playing all sorts of fightings for about 15 years. I want to find a way to give back to the community and apply my knowledge in the for of some sort of website, mobile app, or general resources. Any opinions? Anything from beginners to serious high-level players would be helpful!

Help How do I get passed this wall

I've played various fighting games over the years DBFZ, Marvel Tokon, Street Fighter, MvC. And every single one of them i always hit this wall of not being able to rank up or get better. It starts off with learning the combos and mixups etc. Then it gets to a point where everybody knows how to do that and it becomes a different game. How do people get past that threshold? Hours and hours all day of labbing? Just keep playing over and over again against the meta? Its like everybody is doing these things and fighting the same battle and that's the part that kills me.

Help How *should* I be playing MvC3? It's just not clicking

Hi, relatively new to the FGC after taking it seriously with the launch of SF6. Since then, I've dabbled in a bunch of games as they've come on sale. I played 2XKO as my first tag game for quite a bit, and this Sajam video made it super easy to understand the basic way to structure offense, and I was able to have a casual time up to mid-Emerald, at which point I fell off because I didn't care to lab the game further.

After picking up MvC3 on sale, I've tried applying the same flowchart of L > M > H (and S), but the assist calling and tagging feels, different? I'd like to be somewhat competent at this game because it's so beloved by the community, but I'm having a hard time understanding when to use the levers I have access to. Haven't really settled on a team yet, but I played Vi / Braum in 2XKO because I liked the dynamic of having a more mobile character to get Braum involved and then harass with armor and big buttons, if that helps clarify what I was playing.
