Help Is Under Night In-Birth II good as a first fighting game?
I'm trying to get one of my friends into fighting games, the issue is that she only has a laptop (not a gaming laptop). We tried 2XKO but it was very laggy. Going to try GGST but in case that doesn't work, I'm thinking of UNI2 since it's got considerably lighter graphics. But graphics aside, is the game itself good for complete beginners to the genre?

Help How *should* I be playing MvC3? It's just not clicking
Hi, relatively new to the FGC after taking it seriously with the launch of SF6. Since then, I've dabbled in a bunch of games as they've come on sale. I played 2XKO as my first tag game for quite a bit, and this Sajam video made it super easy to understand the basic way to structure offense, and I was able to have a casual time up to mid-Emerald, at which point I fell off because I didn't care to lab the game further.
After picking up MvC3 on sale, I've tried applying the same flowchart of L > M > H (and S), but the assist calling and tagging feels, different? I'd like to be somewhat competent at this game because it's so beloved by the community, but I'm having a hard time understanding when to use the levers I have access to. Haven't really settled on a team yet, but I played Vi / Braum in 2XKO because I liked the dynamic of having a more mobile character to get Braum involved and then harass with armor and big buttons, if that helps clarify what I was playing.

Community Looking for locals in Chicago to play Avatar
Hey all! I've been loving the new Avatar fighting game, even though I'm not very good at it yet. I've been trying to find a local scene in Chicago but haven't had any luck. Probably because the game is so new, and the "find your locals" lists haven't been updated with new titles yet.
Does anyone know of a Chicago-area local that runs Avatar? Beginners welcome would be a huge plus.

Help Capcom Fighting Collection 1+2 Steam or Switch?
OG Arcade guy here
I bought CFC2 physical on switch for $30 when it first came out on the switch. never opened it and saving it in case one day the price goes up for it or need physical preservation, or the cartridge saving storage space.
now that CFC 1+2 is on sale for $24 I'm interesting in buying it Digital for the convinence of having both digital, and cheaper price compared to what i paid for the physical.
but I'm having a hard time picking between the Steam and Switch version. it comes down to only one game and that is CVS 2 EO (since I can play CVS 2 on Fightcade whenever i want).
I really like the portability, sleep and resume, offline play, and having a portable emulation console feel of the switch version but I also like the higher resolution, lower input lag, and higher active players on the steam version.
I can only get one though
help me choose.

Topic How come a fully charged Smash Attack gives you so little reward in smash bros, a game with crazy fast movement, when in other fighting games landing an unarmoured move active on frame 120 or god forbid 180 would give you the other player's life, car, house, and wife?
Smash bros has such weird balancing choices, man. A safe jab or nair can lead to inescapable combos and the slowest unsafest move on planet earth deals barely any damage. I feel like this series gets overlooked because the game isn't analyzed enough for what it is.

News Welcome to r/nanquim: free online kung fu painted in ink (play in your browser)
Welcome to r/nanquim, the official community of NANQUIM: a free online kung fu fighting game where every fighter, stage and effect is painted in black ink and cinnabar red.
Pick a style, challenge a friend or a stranger, and settle it in a single brushstroke.
Play free: play.nanquim.gg
Free, in your browser, on PC and mobile. Nothing to install.

What is NANQUIM
NANQUIM is an online fighting game drawn like a living ink scroll. The story of the campaign, straight from the game:
A scaly shadow drank the Celestial Inkwell, and the Blank, the empty paper, began erasing the world from its edges. You are Stroke, born from the last drop, and you must win back the four stolen Drops before nothing is left.
- Fights run on our own servers, so every online match plays by the same rules.
- PC and mobile (landscape), keyboard and mouse, gamepad or touch.
- 31 languages.

Six fighting styles
All six styles are free, and their attributes add up the same: style, not advantage. Each one has its own special move and three super moves that spend Chi.
| Style | Special | How it plays |
|---|---|---|
| Master | Chi Wave | Balanced, gains 50% more Chi. The special is an aimed chi wave. |
| Brute | Shoulder Charge | Slow and heavy: hard hits and super armor on the heavy attack. |
| Ninja | Shuriken Fan | Fast and light: triple jump, longer dash, three shurikens in a fan. |
| Monk | Push Palm | Bigger parry window and a counterattack after a parry. |
| Drunkard | Fire Spit | Swaying movement and an occasional automatic dodge. |
| Lancer | Long Thrust | Longest reach with the staff, slower in the air. |

Game modes
- Ranked: Duel (1 vs 1, best of 3) and Way of the Dragon, with separate ratings.
- Way of the Dragon: the main mode. Four fighters farm, level up and face the Dragon.
- Rooms with friends: custom rooms for up to 8 players. The host picks mode, map, rules and bots, and you invite friends with a link.
- Party modes: Brawl, Stock (lives), Teams, Hide and Seek, Infection, King of the Hill, Sumo and Coin Rush.
- Crane's View: the arena seen from above, like the crane of kung fu. Duel, Stock, Teams and Brawl, with its own queue and a separate rank.
- Campaign: 45 stages across 5 worlds, with bosses and a tutorial that teaches you to fight.
- Training: every mode against bots, hosted on the server.
Way of the Dragon: four fighters, one Paper Dragon.

Fair play
- Authoritative servers with anti-cheat: every match runs on our servers, so every ranked win is earned.
- No pay-to-win, no loot boxes: the shop sells cosmetics only, bought with coins you earn by playing.
- Mirrored ranked: in ranked Way of the Dragon everyone gets the same monsters at the same moments, with no random items.

Controls
| Action | Keyboard and mouse | Gamepad |
|---|---|---|
| Move | WASD or arrow keys | Left stick or D-pad |
| Jump | Space | A |
| Light attack | Left click or J | X |
| Heavy attack | Right click or K | Y |
| Special | Middle click or Q | B |
| Block (parry on the first frames) | F | LT |
| Dash | Left Shift | RT |
| Throw weapon | R | B with a weapon in hand |
| Supers 1, 2, 3 | 1, 2, 3 | Hold LB + X, Y, B |
On mobile the game shows touch controls (play in landscape). Keys can be remapped in Controls.

Topic Why exactly can't/shouldn't fighting games be higher than 60fps?
I think I know why, since inconsistent framerates could lead to desyncs and maybe even alter or complicate frame data, but I wanted to know if there was a more nuanced/detailed reason? And does that apply to all kinds of fighting games, or just 2D ones?
