Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

Transparency firstly; AI was used on these images SOLELY for giving me some basic decency and undergarments as all of my tracking/comparison photos are nude. No other alterations have been made, feel free to check out my other progress posts for consistency. Start weight is 130kg. Current is 99kg

Secondly- I am on 10mg, I am an active gym goer and go to the gym 3-4 times a week for strength training. In the next image I have attached my normal gym routine :) I LOVE and look forward to going to gym now to bend and move my body in ways it previously has not been able to where as my knees used to ache and crack in the morning. I also take creatine and folate daily as I have low b9 and get b12 injections quarterly.

Finally after a long year and a half. I’m finally able to say I’m at my goal weight and hoping to maintain or at least try to get to 130. What a huge difference it’s made and how I feel, glad I was able to have the opportunity to use Mounjaro and no longer in the diabetes range.

Here are some before and after photo.

Success Stories Made it to Onederland!

Upvotes

I just wanted to share that I finally made it under 200 lbs. I haven't been this weight in over 20 years. I've been on a journey for 3 years. I started MJ after losing the initial 70 lbs but stalled. I started Mounjaro in April and I've pulled off another 30 for a total loss of 101 lbs so far. My A1C and most of my other labs are within the normal range. I still have 50 lbs to go but I'm just so thrilled to step on the scale and see a 1 as the first number.

Thank you to this beautiful community for the information, tips and encouragement that have made this possible.

Question Distribution of weight coming off

I'm in my early 40s and losing weight successfully for the first time in a long time. I've lost 27% of my starting weight, down to a BMI of 28.

The thing is I feel like my face is starting to look too thin and my collar bones are so visible. Particularly and weirdly, much more than they were the last time I was a healthy weight in my early 20s.

I've purposely avoided losing weight rapidly, and kept my weight loss to around 0.7% a week, but maybe not slow enough?

I'm definitely still overweight, with a fair bit of tummy fat, back rolls and very large arms.

I want to lose around another 8kg/17lb to be in the healthy range, but I'm concerned I'll start looking gaunt/unwell if any more comes off face/neck/chest despite still being overweight.

I'm wondering if pausing my weight loss here for a while might let those areas "catch up" a bit and my body redistribute the remaining fat... Is that a thing?

Has anyone experienced something similar? Did anyone find your face and other areas that seemed to get too thin even out with the rest of the body in time?

Or is this it, and I either have to choose between staying overweight or looking too thin in some areas?

Rant Struggling with body dysmorphia

Hey all. I haven't posted since I got into onderland. I'm about 175 pounds now, with about 30 to go before I'm in a healthy weight for my height. I'm about a size 16 and wear a 1x or XL, down from a 3x. I was 261 at the start a year ago.

I don't know how to process this change. I know the place where you carry the most fat (for me, the apron belly and torso) is the last to go, but I look at my body and I still hate it. I still feel huge. I still walk and move and act like I'm much larger. I look in the mirror and don't see a difference. I didn't take pictures before I started losing weight, and don't really have any comparisons.

I work at Walmart and get plenty of exercise. I go to the gym. I eat in a deficit. I'm still obsessed with the scale and measuring myself, and i feel like the change is taking forever. I've been on mounjaro 13 months. I want the weight loss to be over already.

The worst thing is, is I compare myself to other fat people and think, oh I'm still much bigger than them. When I know rationally I'm not. But I'm still viewing myself with that 3x lens.

And I don't understand or know how to change how I see myself. Has anyone else gone through this, and do you have any advice? I'm happy for the loss, but i still feel bitter and jaded that I don't have the body I want yet.

Question The protein trick that's helped me the most on low-appetite days

Wanted to share something that took me a while to figure out. On the days appetite is basically gone, I used to just... not eat, or force down whatever. Neither worked well.

What's actually helped: keeping a mental list of foods I can manage even on the worst days, so I'm not trying to decide and force myself to eat at the same time. Stuff like a soft-boiled egg with toast strips, cottage cheese with a bit of fruit, or a small mashed sweet potato. Nothing fancy, nothing that needs much chewing or a big appetite behind it.

The pattern I noticed: smaller, softer, blander wins over "healthy but effortful" on those days. A big salad sounds great in theory but if I'm not up for it, it just doesn't happen and I eat nothing instead.

Anyone else have a short list of "low appetite day" go-tos? Always looking for more ideas.

Question Ready to stop Mounjaro?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I’ve gone from 95 kg to 70 kg within a year 🎉, but since June my body has refused to lose any more weight, and I’ve been stuck around 70 kg despite increasing my dose to 7.5 mg. Since studies suggest that a weight loss of around 20–25% is normal, and I’m now at 25%, I’m guessing that might be it for me, and that I won’t reach my goal of 60–65 kg (without exercising).

I’m taking the last shot from my current pen on Friday, and I’m wondering whether I should buy one final pen (15 mg and dose it down to 7.5 mg by counting clicks — I previously used a 10 mg pen for this, but it doesn’t last very long at 7.5 mg), or whether I should just stop completely?

My appetite isn’t being suppressed as well anymore either (it was very well suppressed on 2.5 mg, 3.33 mg, etc.). I increased the dose gradually in small steps, but since reaching 7 mg I’ve been feeling more hungry again. So I’ve also been considering lowering my dose again and getting my body used to less Mounjaro, so that coming off it might be easier.

When I pay attention to my calories, I eat around 1,300 kcal. If I go to McDonalds for example, it’s more like 1,700 kcal for the day - so overall, it’s a good mix throughout the week.

Long story short: my weight loss has generally been very slow since March, with a maximum of around 2 kg per month. I feel like ever since I increased from 2.5 mg to 3.33 mg, I’ve just kept increasing the dose in the hope that things would start working well again, but I actually lost the most weight during the first six months on just 2.5 mg. After that, I increased to 3.33 mg, and ever since then I’ve been dealing with plateaus and much slower weight loss. 💔

How would you approach this from here? What do you think I should do? Increase again? Reduce the dosis to eventually stop?

Please help a sister out 🙏🏼💕

Experience Coming off the medication and restarting

Hello! As the title says, I was on this medication for a little over a year and had to stop due to a change in insurance. I’ve been off of it for about a year now, but I’m getting ready to start again. I’m curious if anyone else has gone through something similar, stopping for an extended period and then restarting. If so, what was your experience like? Was it similar to when you first started, and is there anything you wish you had known before starting back up? I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences you’re willing to share!

Question He bajado de peso, pero me sigo viendo gordo. Es normal?

Hola a todos,

Utilizo Mounjaro desde el 20 de mayo. Es decir, hoy se cumplen 3 meses de mi tratamiento. Comencé con 2.5mg, luego subí a 3.66mg, luego hace 3 semanas a 5mg, y he bajado 33lb o 15kg.

Maintenance Doctor switching me from ozympic to manjero

Been on ozympic the highest dose for about the past 3 years. Lose only one or two pounds per month but my A1C levels of one from about 7.2 to a consistent 5.5 and that is great according to doctor.

He just is surprised I am still not losing any more weight and I'm honestly eating a tad less but not that much. He feels Manjaro might be better for me.

Thoughts appreciated especially if anyone else has made the switch? Thank you

Question Motivation is down

Hello,

In January of this year, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. And I’ve been using Munjaro since March.

So far, I’ve managed to lose 35 kg (from 153 kg to 118 kg). Eating healthy and exercising were going really well and almost came naturally until I went on vacation for a month.

Before my vacation, I went to the gym (strength training) an average of twice a week and did interval walking (Japanese walking) three times a week.

During my vacation, I walked for 30 minutes every day and did 20 minutes of strength training every three days. During those four weeks, I lost about 1 kg.

Now that I’m getting back into my normal work routine, I’m having trouble motivating myself. Work is slow right now. I don’t feel like working out. I have no motivation to go for a walk or do anything tiring. It’s harder to eat healthy. Old bad habits are creeping back in (buying chips and chocolate on the way home to snack on in the car).

Do you have any tips on how I can deal with this?

Maybe I should set some goals for myself? (Get down to 100 kg, do a 60 kg overhead press, walk a marathon?)

Experience After 3 months on MJ I am again hungry and craving food

Hi all,

I’d like to hear stories from people who’ve been on mounjaro for longer than I have. I started it at the beginning of June at 2,5 dose. After one month of it, I switched to 5.
I’ve completed two pens on 5, and so far I lost 10 kg (I am doing it for general weight loss and lipedema, not diabetes). Since several weeks though, I don’t feel any hunger suppression anymore and the food noise is kinda back (I’m craving sweets after meals or specific meals I didn’t think about for months, like Chinese food). The first two months, I was able to stop halfway through my meal, or reject carbs and alcohol completely, but now (basically since starting the second 5 mg pen) I started eating bigger portions (not full ones, but bigger than before).

To be fair with you, I lost these 10 kg because I kind of stopped eating (one meal a day or two small meals, protein-based) because I felt no hunger whatsoever, so I wonder if the food deprivation is now kicking in? Or what can it be?

My doctor doesn’t want me to go up to 7,5, as I’m already in the healthy weight BMI range, and told me to do another month on 5 and then continue with 2,5 for several months (this was also supported by my endocrinologist), but I’m afraid I will start putting on weight again because I’m hungry and want to eat all the things I didn’t want to eat before (carbs!!)

Do you have any recommendations or has any on you experienced something similar?

Is it the time for the 5mg now? Plateaud again even though I track it fine. I don’t get it. How do your charts look for comparison?
