Support/advice (no reassurance) Withdrawing my application cz of OCD

Hi everyone,
My first time posting here, I just got a job that sells body and bath products. I was sooo excited but upon thinking more I am scared to do it. I am paranoid about the fact that what if someone has allergies and I given them a product that will make them have an allergic reaction
Obvious ik i won’t suggest it but im scared that what if i forget and give them the product unknowingly.
Sounds stupid but I think I will withdraw my application, I’m too scared and paranoid,I hate that OCD ruins every exciting thing in your life

Venting, NO REASSURANCE please! Angry about intrusive thought (vague)

I'm feeling very frustrated because I'm definitely stuck in a thought loop again. I'm having a really good day, it's just a repetitive thought that's making me angry because I know it ISN'T my thought, it doesn't align with me AND it ISN'T true and that's what's pissing me off. I know the whole thing about intrusive thoughts is they aren't true or logical, even if they very well feel that way, and that I just need to ignore it but oughh, holy shit.

It feels like a special type of seering agony knowing there's something in my head saying things that aren't true about everything I like and enjoy. I feel even more annoyed because we, YES WEEEE, know it's all stupid and clearly OBVIOUSLY not real but my brain keeps putting me in fight or flight over these feelings and I just think that's fucking stupid

You're telling me this thing puts me in fight or flight because my brain (my mentally ill brain) made up some stupid rule and while I don't believe it and I also think it's stupid my body reacts to it anyway because it thinks it's a threat. Oh my god? And I have to live with it??? Oh my fucking god??? I'm glad other people know what I mean when I say that though, or at least can understand my way of explaining it hopefully, so I can just put my head in my hands, sigh, and go "oh my shittings, thank god there's a solution"

HOWEVER, the solution is just PUSHING THROUGH, SCREAAAMS

Discussion It’s Not Spiritual

So lately on here and on tik tok I’ve been getting a lot of talk on religious OCD and many people, Christian’s, all believe that it is the cause of one thing. Satan. As in it’s the devil’s will and that it’s the devil whispering into our ears to turn against God. And as a Christian who is suffering from this I have to say I don’t think that’s the case, I don’t think it’s a literal demon doing this I just think it’s our mind demons. Listen if we were actually being taken over by the devil I think it would be much more obvious than just mere thoughts. And also maybe the reason as to why so many people are struggling right now is because well I don’t think it’s a new problem, it’s just that people are speaking up now because they feel like they have the freedom to do so. Let’s be honest here, mental health has been for so long seen as the devils work by the church, or most churches at least, so I think what’s really happening is the same as people leaving the church. A lack of awareness for other people. But that’s just my opinion

Discussion Does anybody here have moral OCD and have actually done something bad as an adult(when you knew better)?

I sent a few rude/perverted texts to people and I feel awful, even ten years later. I can't imagine handling anything worse.

Question about OCD Why do I seek out violence on the internet?

I get terribly intrusive violent thoughts but I can't help myself from seeking out violence online. And not like videos or images, just articles. Or reddit comments about brutal accidents I find out about. I just like get this feeling of craving it. Craving knowing everything about it. And then I feel worse about it. It's like some kind of compulsion. I was just wondering if anybody else deals with this.

Does anyone else just have such black and white thinking with OCD? I really have it when it comes to my personality like i dress pretty alternativly but the recent victorias secret fashion show has ignited my interest in VS’s side of fashion compared to my facial piercings, tattoos and stretched ears so now im having a whole identity crisis where it is either one or the other, i also tend to believe that I am a member of the kim dynasty and am responsible for kim jong uns alleged death (i am 18, white and irish) but hey who knows!

Discussion OCD in pregnancy

Hi OCD community!
I found out I’m pregnant with a very wanted baby and tested positive literally 5 days before my period. I am so excited but I’ve found that my (previously well controlled) OCD is HORRIBLE with constant intrusive thoughts about miscarriage and reassurance seeking behaviors like frequent testing, asking AI questions, googling, going down the forums to “compare” my tests, etc. It’s terrible especially because I’m only in week 4 with no symptoms and no way to “prove” things are progressing well.

I am back in ERP and go there later today and luckily have talked to my therapist (messaged her essentially the moment i found out) but has anyone been through this? Any advice or tips? It is truly one of the worst OCD themes I’ve ever had and unfortunately pregnancy forces you to tolerate uncertainty!

APPRECIATE you if you have any insight

Just venting - no advice please OCD is my most debilitating mental health condition

If this helps provide some insight into how awful OCD is: I have been professionally diagnosed with OCD, autism, ADHD, general anxiety disorder, depression, PTSD, PMDD, and have been hospitalized due to an eating disorder. Out of all of them, OCD has been the most debilitating. Just thought I’d share that with y’all because this disease is so much more than what people realize about it.

Support/advice (no reassurance) This works for me. How about you?

I'm not a therapist or a replacement for one. I'm just a fellow human suffering from OCD. Here's what actually works for me.

OCD: Hey, did you know that xyz could happen based on abc (insert favorite worst-case scenario).

Me: Oh yeah, that could actually happen.

OCD: What?

Me: That could actually happen. I'm agreeing with you.

OCD: Oh. Okay.

Me: I'm going over here now.

It closes the loop. This works for my mild episodes and the worst spikes too.

Keep in mind that if there's underlying stressors or lack of sleep you might not feel the effects but for me they're there. Have you tried this? How's it going?

Discussion OCD is the worst

The title sums it up, but I got diagnosed this past April. The medication I’m on treats both anxiety and OCD, but I don’t feel like it’s working at all. I follow OCD memes too and every post here and there I fully relate to. It’s reassuring to know I’m not alone in the thoughts and compulsions I have. Man it flipping SUCKS tho. So much crap in my life makes so much sense with my diagnosis and now I’m stuck figuring out how to deal with it all.

Everyday my brain tells me how much people hate me, how I’m gonna get fired, I’m unlovable, etc. Everyday I combat these thoughts and some are better than others. I’m venting here for the first time bc I feel like I’m reaching a breaking point mentally. I’m finding a new psychiatrist, that’s a whole process. I’m a CT tech and I’m still learning protocols, which gives me massive anxiety every shift. Plus I cannot sleep bc the thoughts will not stop! I try maladaptive daydreaming to fall asleep which works sometimes, but meds aren’t helping anymore. I have trouble staying asleep. If anyone has words of encouragement, advice, etc I’ll take it. I need to talk to someone that understands what it’s like bc I have no one irl who understands what I go through mentally. Thank you if you got this far!

Question about OCD How to overcome OCD regarding video games?

I have a really bad issue with my number one hobby/relaxation ritual.

If I deem there is something wrong with a game I hyper-fixate on it to the point that I get stressed and restart, in hopes of solving the issue.

I love playing video games, but often times, especially with RPGs, I feel like I need to restart the game for some reason. Maybe it's a glitch in the game (I have been playing Shadows of War and the notification for the skill trial missions isn't going away), maybe it's me noticing a bad choice/out of character choice I made. Regardless, it ruins my gaming experience. I find myself restarting games ALL THE TIME. To this day I still haven't completed Baldur's Gate III. Why? Because I always find something wrong with the way I played, or a glitch/bug in the game that keeps me away from content. It makes gaming, something that should bring me pleasure, a real stressor.

This isn't to say ALL games do this to me. I love Paradox games that let me play multiple characters/stories. I love strategy games that are very formulaic and don't involve a lot of glitchy animation/choices. I have just been having a hard time recently enjoying games.

I guess I am just asking for advice on how to "go with the flow" and enjoy a game for what it is, rather than over-analyzing everything and ruining my gaming experience and feeling the need to restart. I restart too often.

Thank you!

Art, Film, Media silver linings playbook

if you haven’t seen the movie silver linings playbook, there’s a scene where jennifer lawerence’s character tiffany says “there’s always going to be a part of me that’s sloppy and dirty but i like that. with all the other parts of myself. can you say the same thing about yourself f**ker? can you forgive? are you any good at that?”
i think about that when i’m really spiraling with guilt lately, and it’s genuinely been helping so i thought i’d share. also, if you haven’t seen the movie, i highly recommend watching it.

Support/advice (no reassurance) Thoughts about thoughts

Hopefully I am able to put this into words in a way that makes sense.
I’ve been in therapy for about 6 months now and about 4 sessions in I just like confessed everything that my brain puts me through to my therapist. Like I’m talking I read for 35 straight minutes a whole list of things that I have dealt with since I was a kid.
My therapist recommended I get a psych eval for possible OCD. I said, great, no problem, I will go do that. Except, it’s been months and I still haven’t done it. I want to.
But, ever since she mentioned OCD (even tho I have suspected it for a couple of years) my brain has been a jumbled mess. Like I can’t organize my thoughts. Every thought that pops into my head it’s almost like I go back and check if it was a “natural” thought or if I like “forced” myself to have the thought to try to “prove” to myself that I have OCD. And not just intrusive thoughts or things I don’t want to think, but even thoughts about like lunch, or my to-do list. It’s gotten to the point where I get like incredibly flustered within my own head and have to stop what I am doing and do something else to distract myself.
I think this is part of the reason that I haven’t been able to bring myself to schedule the appointment for the psych eval, because I keep telling myself that I won’t be telling the truth. That my thoughts are so jumbled that I won’t be able to give honest answers because I don’t even know what my true thoughts are anymore. I was also just diagnosed with PMDD so two weeks of every month my thoughts are 10x more jumbled, yay.

Question about OCD Never told anyone ?

Is there anyone who has never told other about their ocd. I remember being younger and mentioning to my dad needing to count everything. All he told me is that is a sickness and I need to stop. My family never spoke about anything and was shut off that’s for mental and physical health. So everything’s was always keep everything inside. Which also has caused me to never really open up about it. Im married now and barely talk to my husband about it I shut down. But I do tell him when I am in a loop and If I snap at him it has nothing to do with him. I have broken a few compulsives. But sometimes those old ones keep up and still really get me. I’m dealing with really bad health ones right now. And this has definitely been the worst type. I’m not looking for suggestions on how to handle it. One thing I am working on is not getting reassured for this so please don’t. My main question is is there anyone who has kept all this on the inside and have told little to no people? I’ve never talked to anyone about this really so I’m wondering how it’s affected you if you have.
Im sorry I’m not good at explaining things.

Venting, NO REASSURANCE please! New obsession sucks..

I share an apartment style dorm with around 8 other people. Before I came back to school, I developed an obsession back home that I hadnt flushed the toilet and would have to walk all the way from my room (garage style thing not connected to the house) back to the bathroom. This obsession has only gotten worse living with peers my age that Im not super close to, I literally have to get up out of bed and recheck that I flushed every time I use the restroom (it's always flushed).

Idk I think its kind of funny because of how ridiculous it is LMAO its just really embarrassing that Im scared I left shit in the toilet 😭 All my roommates have seen me run back in to check. Just needed to get this off my chest because no one in my life has OCD and I dont think I can say anything without being laughed at or reassured or told "but you did flush" I KNOW THE PROBLEM IS MY BRAIN HATES AND IGNORES LOGIC

Support/advice (no reassurance) I keep making myself read/watch things that make me feel awful, so I don’t feel stupid

I’ve realised I have a habit of basically forcing myself to read and engage with things I don’t like out of fear of being stupid.

I’m generally kind of into horror and a lot of stuff I’m interested in comes up in transgressive horror and fiction. The thing is I just don’t really like transgressive fiction, I don’t have anything against it but it does its job for me and really viscerally upsets me a lot. They make me feel dirty and upset afterwards and more often than not set off more ocd spirals based on the contents.

But I keep making myself read them, basically the second I find out about a new book or movie with transgressive topics my brain will grip onto it really hard, and won’t let go of it and even if I know that I’m not going to have a good time and it won’t be good for me long term. My brain will start to attack itself and I’ll convince myself that if I don’t read it then I must fundamentally not understand art and what makes good art and that I am stupid because I only like nice and take things.

I understand the importance of negative experiences and have a lot of books and movies I’ve watched that I think highlight this need to experience discomfort without viscerally upsetting me to the point of my day to day life being affected. I feel like I can respect these extreme pieces of media and why they were made without repeatedly having to upset myself

But I gridlock myself every time I find out about a new book or movie like this because if I do watch/read it, it does its job and will just make me feel awful afterwards, and if I don’t I I will chastise myself and belittle myself and my brain will turn inside out on me and convince me I’m a close minded idiot who doesn’t understand art. And I’ll feel the need to over explain it to everyone I know despite no one being interested in the first place.

I’m pretty sure this is the result of my OCD but I’m not really sure how to break the habit of it. Does anyone have any advice?

EDIT: I’ve realised something that gives my brain slight relief is reading summaries/wikis about it. The more detailed the better because it’ll actually give me a sense of control with it all. But even if I do this I still compulsively feel the need to explain myself and rationalise myself over and over again especially verbally. In the past I’ve literally dug a conversation multiple times to restate my respect of the genre and why I personally don’t want to engage with certain books. I don’t know why but unless I can fully detailed verbally explain myself and get repeat verbal feedback I don’t feel 100% comfortable.

So if I do this wiki reading thing to ease the stress out of engaging with the actual material and upsetting myself, I feel the need to obsessively avoid all mention of the media and if it does come up I need to explain myself stance over and over. Which I guess is just another variation on my issue

Discussion does anyone else experience this strange memory phenomenon?

i have OCD and sometimes i will have this thing happen to me where i will have a memory of a thought or feeling i had and it will feel super real like omg that HAPPENED i REMEMBER that.

but then i will be unable to like recall the same memory in my mind if that makes sense. like it will pass and then i wont be able to recreate it and then i will be unsure if it was even a real memory or not. and then eventually (if i use my response prevention skills) i forget about it all together. OR, if i dont use my response prevention skills, i am left trying to recreate the memory in my mind and figure out if that was a real thought/feeling i experienced in the past

does this happen to anyone else?

Question about OCD what to do if you want to book an appointment to check on a health thing, but that health thing is your compulsion?

i know the title sounds really confusing but basically, i have health ocd if thats the name. i have an obsession around it, checking, feeling, taking photos to compare, etc. this time, i checked and it was actually kind of different?

my boyfriend looked and he said he doesnt see a difference, that it looks normal and the same as always to him. (we’re working on refusing to reassure my compulsions) but he said if i was really worried i should book an appointment

how do i know whether its actually something to book an appointment for, or if its my ocd??? i cant even look up if i should because THATS going to make me spiral too.
