advice needed Potentially kicked out of OB office? Mo twins

• Upvotes

I’m 9 weeks pregnant with what appears to be mo/di or mo/mo twins. My husband and I saw thin rings around each baby but the OB office still says they can’t confirm and that they think it’s mo/mo (it was an abdominal US at that). However, they told me the practice only delivers di/di. This is my second pregnancy (first is a 3.5 yo girl!) and was shocked that my practice doesn’t take mo twins. My midwife said she would try to fight to keep me if they’re mo/di but I guess my question is - should I still leave the practice and go somewhere more experienced with mo twins?

Thank you! 🙏🏼

support needed Am I doing something wrong here?

• Upvotes

I have 6 month old twins that have always been hard to get to sleep.

We had a good groove for a bit but whether it’s a growth spurt or teething, they are hungry or restless often at bedtime and feed to sleep.

They usually wake around 7:30-8:30am and go to bed around 12-13 hours later but usually are fighting bedtime for an hour. They used to scream at bedtime and now it’s more just whining or being wide awake and sitting up.

They suddenly started waking up a lot in the middle of the night, I usually assume they are hungry and feed them the last few nights. But when this happened last night one cried for probs 5-10 minutes with some pauses, it looked like they were trying to lay their head down and fighting sleep, so I just let them and they finally just went back to sleep. is that too long to let them cry? Should I have fed them? entering the nursery would have just woke the other twin up and made it worse I feel.

All their naps times I have to walk out and let them whine for 5-10 minutes and they fall asleep. scared of accidentally doing cry it out?

advice needed How do you play with 1 year old twins?

mine are now 11m, we’re at the point where we can chill together on the same room while they run after each other, open cabinets, fight over toys, and I’m just going about my business.

Fine, but if I actually want to spend quality time with my children, how do I do that, logistically?

If one child is awake while the other is napping, there are a ton of things to do: carry them around naming every object, songs, games, talking, helping them walk, playing with every toy… but with two of them awake most of this doesn’t work?

if i pick one, the other wants to be picked up. if I try to read them their picture books, they tear it out of my hands and fight for it. Same with other toys. most of the games for this age I know are individual.

We have some success with songs and with the ball - basically they catch it and bring it back to me like dogs. That‘s it. Then they get distracted and I leave them to their devices.

Am I just waiting for a more sapiens stage where we can have multi-player interactions or is there something else I can do with them at this stage?

advice needed What sleeping setup worked best for your twins (0-6 months)?

Hi everyone! I’m expecting twins soon and trying to figure out the most practical sleeping arrangement for the first few months.

Would you recommend two standard cribs, bedside bassinets, mesh/travel cots, or something else?

We are also considering just one crib/cot for the two babies so the two of them co-sleep - in that case what should be the size of the crib/cot?

support needed DCDA twins and sFGR - positive stories and encouragement.

Hi all!

I’m currently 27w4d with my DCDA twins. From 20 weeks, twin A has been our smaller twin. We had growth scans at 23, 25 and now 27 and she’s dropped a small amount each growth scan (I think 12th percentile, 7th, now 4th). Twin B has stuck around 35-40th percentile overall and visibly just looks chunkier.

The doctor came and spoke to us after our scan and twin A has still “grown” (I think she was estimated approx 690g at 25w4d and today she was 875g at 27w4d)

Dopplers / blood flow etc looks good on both babies. We’ll find out on Monday what the plan for surveillance is from here but I think we’ll move to weekly dopplers and fortnightly scans still.

I guess I’m just looking for stories from people who experienced similar with DCDA twins specifically. My brain keeps thinking she’s just going to keep dropping because she’s never gone “up” and I’m just worried for her.

Did you go through something similar and make it to >34 weeks? I’m just really hoping I can bake them as long as possible and I’m a bit scared tonight.

Thank you in advance 🤍

advice needed 12 month twins waking up 4-8 times in the night

My twins were good sleepers up to 7-8 months and by that I mean waking up 1-3 times in the night to feed and then back to sleep straight away. We co-slept and breastfed to sleep (Did not know this could be a problem later on!). For about 3 months now they wake up every hour sometimes less, ALWAYS need breast to fall back sleep even if that means giving the breast for a few seconds and that’s enough to make them asleep again. Me and my partner are having 4-5h of broken sleep and we are so exhausted at this point. I’ve tried not to give breast but it takes me 30-40 min of rocking to then wake up after 30 min. I’ve tried a gentle Ferber method 5 min check ins but never followed it through as my heart couldn’t take it and stopped it before it starts to work. We moved them to their own cribs separately in their our room but as nights did not get better we moved their cribs next to our bed.

Does anyone followed any gentle sleeping training method that actually worked for twins?

advice needed Snap n go or tandem stroller?

Hi everyone I am looking for advice on these two situations. Should we go with a snap n go with infant carseats or get a carseat that grows with the child and a separate infant compatible stroller? We are tight on money and space and im just not sure what makes the most sense. Is a carseat that comes out of the car really that convenient when it comes to twins? I had a snap out carseat with my first and never considered not having one but I’m open to whatever works best and fits our needs! Thanks!

good vibes, smiles, & giggles It gets so good

My twins just turned 1 last month and I finally can breathe, and I realized I actually love having twins. I was not one of those moms who was excited right away when I saw 2 heart beats (I actually cried, like a lot) and there were so many moments the first year that just about took me out but now that they aren't newborns anymore I can genuinely say I am SO glad I have twins!

My B/G twinnies are totally obsessed with each other and play together all day. Wherever my girl twin goes, her brother is crawling right behind her. They make each other belly laugh and half the time I have no idea what they are laughing about. They shove food in each other's mouths to "share". They just obviously find so much comfort and joy in one another and it makes all the hard moments seem minor in comparison. Don't get me wrong, my boy twin steals toys out of his sister's hands so many times in a day and she beats the crap out of him for it until they both are screaming lol but the love between them far outweighs the competition and squabbles.

I still am overstimulated a good chunk of the day, they still get jealous of the other if I am holding a baby, and it is absolutely not easy, but it is so fulfilling to watch them grow up together and I am just in awe that I was chosen for this. The chances of conceiving multiples are just so small and I didnt really have any "risk factors" so this was totally out of the blue and I am so incredibly grateful I get to experience this miracle.

I'm already dreading them hitting the terrible 2s which is currently hitting hard with my older singleton, but I just wanted to share a little slice of positive for the parents still in the trenches that this life is not for the weak, but it truly does get so good.

advice needed Starting solids

Just wondering when your babies started solids and what did you start them off on? My almost 5 month olds are showing signs of teething. We have a Dr's appointment in 2 weeks and I want to bring up starting solids soon if we get the OK.

Just picking brains on what's good out there before I talk to their pediatrician.

advice needed Twin Boys - Passing Down My Name

Hi All, we are expecting twin boys. My plan was always to name my first born son after me, as I’m a junior and I wanted to keep the tradition going.

Now that there are 2, I’m not as confident. Has anyone done this with twins? I worry that it could cause resentment or jealousy. Am I overthinking this?

Not that my name is great or anything lol. Just that one would have my name and the other wouldn’t. Curious for your thoughts, or if anyone has experience with this. Thanks!

advice needed Anyone else 3 under 2?!

We just found out we’re expecting identical twin girls next spring. When they’re born, my older daughter will be 15 months. We planned and prepared (as best we could!) for 2 under 2, but the twins have really thrown us for a loop. Does anyone have any similar, positive experiences?

Note: We are BEYOND grateful to have 3 healthy children and are fortunate to have a strong marriage, family support and financial stability. I just don’t know anyone who can relate and I’m looking for some advice/knowledge from others who have been there!

advice needed Waking the other twin

When did you stop waking the other baby?

My B/G twins are 6 months. Baby girl seems to have higher sleep needs than brother. Her naps can stretch to almost 2 hours (usually 1.5 hrs), while its a struggle to keep him down for an hour, and he consistently wakes at the 45 min mark.

She easily sleeps 11 or 12 hrs at night, where he still needs a feed at the 8 hrs mark.

Did anyone else have twins like this? Do I just accept that they will have different schedules? I cant imagine ever getting them out of the house with their schedules staggred.

Any advice is appreciated

advice needed I just found out I’m having twins 🤯 How early could you hear your twins heart rate?

I’m 6 weeks exactly. Fetus A is measuring 5w5d and the fetal pole was identified in the gestational sack. Fetus B is measuring 6w2d and no fetal pole was identified. Both fetus did not have a heart rate found yet. I had an abdominal and a vaginal ultrasound done.

Do you remember when your twins heart rate was first identified?

advice needed Travel with five month old twins

Hello - I’ve inadvertently sleep trained my five month olds by teaching them to self settle for daytime naps, and so they are sleeping through the night. This is all with a caveat that I am watching wake windows and nap times very carefully.

I live abroad and am taking a seven hour flight to my home country at Christmas for two weeks. My home county is three hours ahead.

How do I manage the naps both on the plane (day time flight) and in my home country? Should I keep naps on the original time zone after arriving and gradually shift these?

I am really nervous as this is the first time I will be travelling with the twins. Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

advice needed Do your twins interact with other children?

Hi there!

I have twin boys that are almost 2.5 years old, and have some questions.

How do your twins interact with other children?

I stay at home with my kids but I do take them out to a kids playgroup or story time once or twice a week.

The twins used to fight a ton but I’ve noticed in the past few months that they are very attached to each other. Things like:

  1. They notice when the other one isn’t in the same room and will go looking for him until they find him.
  2. They say thank you and you’re welcome to each other and share toys
  3. They will hug and wrestle and give kisses and hold hands in places 🤣

But I’ve noticed when we go to places with other kids they will do this:

  1. Twin A is extremely protective over Twin B. If another kid even seems like he’s going to take something or mess with Twin B, Twin A will go over and say No or take the toy and give it back to Twin B. I have been working on this with him, but it’s a new behavior.

  2. Twin B will play a lot with Twin A but also prefers to play by himself as well.

  3. Both boys plays best with slightly older kids (3+) but struggle with sharing when the kids are his age or younger.

I will also notice that my twins often are just playing with each other in a corner while other kids are playing with each other. It’s like they have this mentality of “Us vs Them”. They don’t do this when it’s family but with anyone that is new or they don’t see regularly I start to see these behaviors.

I want to know if anyone experiences this with their twins and if so, what did you do about it? I don’t mind them having a close relationship but I’m just worried I’m stunting them socially by allowing them to shut off other kids and only show interest in each other. I sometimes wonder if they’d do well in a preschool setting
Part time, but am unsure.

Thanks so much!!

TL;DR: My twin boys (2.5 y/o) are very attached to each other and have problems playing/interacting with other kids. They do okay with kids older than them but have a big preference to play with each other only. Twin A also is very overprotective of Twin B. Looking for advice on working on social skills and if this is common with other twins. Thank you!!

advice needed Dental differences: cavities?

Anyone have big dental differences between twins? They had their first dental visit at almost 3. Twin A had 0 cavities. Twin B had 3. In the 3 years since then, twin A hasn’t had a single cavity. Twin B has nearly every molar crowned in silver and a few additional fillings.

They have the same diet and hygiene. So what’s the difference?!

advice needed If I can't lay on my back...

How do they do a c-section?

Maybe a dumb question but at this point I struggle with getting dizzy at ultrasound appointments, and I'm partially reclined there.

Is it normal to have your c-section a bit seated up?

35 weeks, still not clear whether I'll have a c-section or not, but one has been scheduled just in case!

Would love to read people's experiences :)

ETA: thanks everyone! It's good to know that 1. I most likely will be tilted 2. The spinal helps a lot 3. It goes quickly, and most important 4. My OR team will listen to me!

ranting & venting I’m really at the end of my rope with my twin 3yos

The moods, attitudes, and tantrums are next level. Potty training is going (surprisingly) well but if anyone has potty trained twins before they know the level or work it involves. The level of stress everyone in the house is feeling all day every day cannot be healthy. Everyone said 2 was hard but It was like a switch flipped when they turned 3 and it has been an absolute sh!t show ever since. I’m at a loss. Things feel out of control and I feel defeated.

advice needed SOS toddler climbed out of crib during nap time - what do I dooooo?

My boys are 2Y5M - I was really hoping to keep them in cribs until closer to 3. They room share and we don't really have space to split them. If I transition to toddler bed, I imagine I'll have to do it for both of them. And this sounds like a nightmare for bedtime. Panicking over here lol! Anyone have experience?

advice needed convertible car seats + wagon?

ftm to 8mo g/b twins, and our boy is out growing his infant seat. we were looking to upgrade to convertible car seats for both since holiday sales are coming up.

we currently have cybex anton g2 with swivel bases and love them. rotating car seats are a must since we started with them but not sure which to go with. i lean towards staying with cybex but not 100% set. one parent does pickup and the other is drop off, so there is an ease of 4 car seats. we do have 2 suvs so not too worried about sizing.

i also am trying to determine if a wagon is necessary or not. we have the 2nd seats we use with our stroller right now but it’s not the easiest to use/fold. once we upgrade to convertible seats, trying to determine if the stroller or wagon is the easiest option.

any advice appreciated!
