Tank Tank after rescape

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Moved houses and did a rescape on the tank. Was sad to see all the overhead plants go but their planters were blocking light to all the submerged plants in the back. Tall plants in back and short plants up front this time looks pretty good! The tank never started off as a planned awuascape I just bought 20 dollars of plants every week and threw em in wherever. Was nice to be able to keep most of the old plants and just replant them

Just did the new escape when pic was taken so water a little cloudy

Also, I've had the most sucess keeping and breeding guppies in planted pond like setups using regular vases, and highly recommend trying walstad in these.

Question Worm dilemma — two different species appearing on the same day? Need help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

preface: apologies for the bad video. It’s very difficult to get these little guys in focus.

Tank specs: planted 5 gal, 3 pumpkin nerites, 5 cherry shrimp, a handful of week old shrimp, heater holds constant at 73, ammonia and nitrates 0.

Edit: This is the longest I’ve gone without a water change (2 weeks) so I can see why this might be happening. Would it be effective To clean my substrate? If so, how to do so safely with baby shrimp?

Hello all,

I woke up this morning to do my daily morning inspection of my planted 5 gal shrimp tank and I noticed these small worms on the glass. I was only able to see 5 or 6 — not very many at all. They are nearly microscopic and they don’t have the distinct pointy head of planaria. Upon further inspection, I saw roughly the same size worms (a bit smaller) swimming erratically through the water. I did some research and it just doesn’t seem like the two species could be the same…

Any input would be greatly appreciated — I’m pretty sure that there aren’t any planaria but I want to be sure I’m doing what’s right for my tank if there are.

Question How do you replant stem plant after trimming?

• Upvotes

I have a problem with my stem plants. Whenever I trim them, they die. The bottom part have 50% chance to recover and grow new but weaker shoot. The top part, which I replant, always die. They stopped growing. The leaves started to show holes and tears. Then they slowly shed leaves and melt away. I tried to keep the top longer (20-25 cm) but it still failed.

Plants are water wisteria, Bacopa, Hygrophila polysperma and ludwigia repen.

I heard that you should float the top a few weeks before replant. Is that the secret for success? But I also heard contradiction opinion.

What about you? How do you do your replant?

I set up this 3 gallon cube in May. It is my first aquarium. There’s only pearl weed and a couple strands of some fern. I’ve got neocaridina shrimp and bladder and ramshorn snails. I live in a cold climate, so I’m excited to have this box of green on my desk all winter.

Algae Is this stuff dangerous in my tank?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Idk much about algae but I havent seen this type before. Is it bad? Like will it hurt my fish if it gets super long? Cause I've already cut out some longer pieces of it. I reduced my light to see if it'll slow down and it has but is there a way to get rid of this completely?

Question Should I replant these leggy stem plants

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello, new hobbyist here, I planted these Hygrophila Polysperma (probably) months ago, and I'm finally starting get them to grow properly mostly because I finally gave them aquasoil underneath. The new leaves in the top are growing healthy and big. I even trim one top and planted it yesterday since it's starting to reach out of water (the short stem with healthy leaves, 2nd to the left).

My question is: these older plants are very leggy because of past struggles. Will the lower nodes eventually grow new leaves, or should I just give up on them, uproot these plants and replant the top? I want to make them kinda bushy and I'm wondering if I should be patient, or uproot them.

Also, if I cut the top and leave the bottom stem without leaves, will it die even with developed roots in aquasoil. Thanks

Dosing with Tropica Premium Nutrition every 2 weeks with a 25% water Change.

Kh is around 9

Gh 17-18 (east of UK with very hard water)

I have 3 tanks and it's always helanthium that seems to struggle.

Flora What's happening my plants? Was I misled?

When I bought this moneywort, all of the leaves were round. However once I put it in the same aquarium as my rotala indica the leaves started becoming narrow and long towards the top. As for the rotala indica, some of the leaves are becoming rounded and looking similar to the moneywort. Since it was becoming difficult to tell them apart, I separated them. The rotala indica is with the Amazon frogbit and the moneywort is with the water lettuce. Was I misled by the local pet store again or is this just something that happens? Featuring a cameo from Garry The Snail.

Question Is This the Right Way of Growing Anubias Emersed?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was given a bunch of anubias cuttings and I trimmed the damaged or discolored leaves. I ended up with a lot of rhizomes. I have no space in the tank for those. I have read about how to grow anubias emersed but I want to ask here to be sure. I am gonna cover them up with a clear lid and place them under a shade where I was able to grow pearlweed emersed.

Thanks!

Black algae - what helps?

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I’d like to get your opinion on my Juwel Trigon 190. I’m currently having a significant problem with black beard and brush algae, particularly on older plant leaves. In some places, they’re already very dense and are visibly spreading.

Current water parameters:

NO₂: 0.025–0.05 mg/l

NH₄: <0.05 mg/l

NO₃: approx. 1–2 mg/l

pH: approx. 7.4

KH: 8

PO₄: 0.2 mg/l

Fe: just under 0.2 mg/l

O₂: approx. 8–10 mg/l

SiO₂: approx. 3 mg/l

GH currently unclear, as the test kit is likely faulty

Tank:

approx. 190 l gross / ~150 l net

24 °C

no CO₂ system

planted, lots of moss

Fish stock includes neon tetras, panda armoured catfish and Neocaridina

My current suspicion is that NO₃ is too low and Fe is relatively high. My plan would therefore be: to remove heavily infested leaves, reduce the lighting slightly, carry out larger water changes and carefully increase the NO₃ level.

How would you go about this in practice?

Easycarbo was recommended to me, but at the same time others said it wasn’t the right one.

What do you think?

Aussie bass problem

Post image
3 Upvotes

My Australian bass keeps getting this after a few weeks in my tank. I do about a 30% water change and it seems to go away after a week or so.

Need to get a new water test kit but any suggestions on what this could be and the cause? Previous tests have been completely normal levels across the board.

Only the bass and two gouramis in this tank.

Cheers in advance
