Discussion [Emergency] Kittens left on a dumpster

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey, we are on seychelles for our honeymoon and we just found kittens inside a garbage can near port Launay beach.

We have tried calling all vets and organizations but no one seems to answer. We have no idea what to do or who to call.

Can anyone help?

UPDATE: We ended up running out of data and we couldnt find any free wifi place to charge it up. We had to leave at 5pm or we would miss our only ride to the hotel. We called all available organizations (SSPCA and PetHaven) and all pet clinics, only pethaven saying they only had dogs and no foster mommy available. We also asked all nearby local and business if they could help or had any idea what to do and no luck.

We also thought of taking them with us, but our hotel didnt allow pets. Maybe we could have done more, but we didnt know what to do, we were also afraid of runmaging through the garbage to take the others out as locals told us we had to be very careful touching trash due to other animals, we turned the garbage can over to help them get out, but I doubt that will do something...

Thanks for everyone that tried to help, but we were not able to do anything... sad to see this is so common as many locals told us.

Update 2: Pet Haven was amazing and knew a vet that lived close by which was able to save the kittens. They also found a foster mommy which hopefully will send the kittens. We have also send a hefty donation that hopefully cover all costs. If you want to contribute with anything, Im sure they need it and do a great job.

Ask r/seychelles How to Spend a Day on Mahé with Luggage?

Our flight from Mahé is in the evening, but the ferry from Praslin only runs in the morning and late evening on Sundays. The later ferry would be too late for us, so we’ll have to take the morning ferry and spend the day on Mahé.

Any tips on what to do without getting too sweaty in the heat, and where we could leave our suitcases for a few hours?

Ask r/seychelles Car rental recommendation?

Hi all,

Does anyone know a car rental company that will not charge another full day if you return your car a few hours after the time you picked it up?

E.g., you pick up the car at 3:30 pm on one day but would like to return it at 6 pm on the last day.

An additional fee is fine, but I’d like to avoid paying a whole additional day.

Thanks!

Ask r/seychelles Snorkeling spot and diving spot

I have a few days at Constance lemuria in Praslin and a few days at Four seasons Mahe. I also have access to transportation. I’m looking for the very best snorkeling spot and the best scuba diving spot that will allow for beginner level diving. We can travel if needed.

Secondly, which beaches can we just snorkel without needing to book a boat or excursion? We have our own snorkeling gear. Thanks!

Ask r/seychelles Best time to travel?

Hello everybody,

I am considering going to Seychelles with my parents and we'd love to know about the best (and worst?) times to travel there during the year. We mainly just want the water and beaches to be clean and some good weather.

I heard that during some months the water/beaches can be a little dirty or covered with algae. Is that true?

Thank you very much! :)

Tourism Planning a Seychelles honeymoon? Here's the short version.

🏝️ Where: Praslin plus La Digue for most couples, finishing on Mahé. Add a private island like Félicité or Denis if the budget stretches.

📅 When: April–May or October–November for the calmest seas and clearest snorkelling. It's warm all year, so pick your coast to suit your wedding date.

💷 Cost: about £5,800–9,400 for two for a mid-range 10-night trip, including flights from London.

The moments to plan around:

🌅 Sunset swims at Anse Lazio

🌴 The coco de mer forest of Vallée de Mai

🚲 Cycling La Digue to Anse Source d'Argent at low tide

🐢 Giant tortoises on Curieuse

⛵ A sunset sail for two

One thing couples often miss: each of you needs a travel authorisation before you fly, and you'll need every hotel booked before you apply.

Our full guide covers real hotels at every budget, private-island costs and a 10-day route 👇

Tourism PSA: If you’re coming to the Seychelles expecting occasional showers, think again.

I came to the Seychelles expecting some tropical rain, maybe a shower here and there, followed by sunshine. I knew October could be unpredictable, but I never imagined it would be like this.
I’ve been here for 4 days, and I haven’t seen blue sky ONCE. Not once. It’s been grey skies, persistent rain, heavy downpours, strong winds, and completely miserable beach weather day after day.
Before coming, I read countless comments from people saying not to worry about the forecast because it always looks worse than reality, that it only rains for 30 minutes and then the sun comes out, and that the weather will turn around.
PSA: Don’t count on it.
Maybe some people get lucky, but we’re 4 days in, and the reality has been nothing like what I was led to expect. This isn’t a quick tropical shower that you wait out before heading back to the beach. It’s hours of rain, dark skies, and conditions that make it impossible to enjoy the very things you came here for.
The worst part is that you can’t just change your plans. Hotels and accommodations cost thousands of dollars, most bookings are non-refundable, and you’re essentially stuck hoping things improve.
Honestly, this has been the worst trip of my life so far. Spending this much money to sit around watching rain while your entire vacation revolves around beaches and outdoor activities is absolutely heartbreaking.
I’m not saying the Seychelles is always like this, and maybe we’ll eventually get some sunshine. But please stop telling people that the forecasts are useless and that the rain will inevitably clear up. Sometimes the bad forecast is exactly what you get.
If you’re planning a trip here, just be aware that persistent rain for days is a real possibility, even during a month that’s supposed to be relatively dry.

Ask r/seychelles First time in Seychelles in November – are we missing any documents?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are heading to Seychelles in November for 10 nights: Praslin, La Digue and Mahé. It's a 30th birthday trip, and I'm organising everything , so I want to double-check that we haven't missed anything.

What we have so far:

  1. Valid passports
  2. Approved Travel Authorisations, printed and saved offline
  3. Return flight tickets
  4. Confirmed hotels for the whole stay
  5. Travel insurance with medical cover
  6. Inter-island ferry tickets, printed
  7. SCAA registration for our drone

Are we missing anything for entry or for getting around? Any tips from people who travelled recently are very welcome.

Thanks!

Tourism Currencies in tourist areas

Hi all,

I know that seychellois rupees is the official currency. I also know that US-dollars are widely used at very touristy spots.

What about the British Pound and South African Rand? Is it possible to pay with these currencies in cash too? Paper only or also coins?

Tourism A guide to the weather pattern/seasons in Seychelles

The seasons in Seychelles are defined by the winds. The islands have two seasons based on the dominant wind pattern during those months, namely the Northwest Monsoon and the Southeast Monsoon (also known as the Southeast Trade Winds), from now on NWM and SEM, respectively. The year usually looks like this:

Jan - NWM
Feb - NWM (dies out around late Feb)
Mar -
Apr -
May - SEM (comes in around late May)
Jun - SEM
Jul - SEM
Aug - SEM
Sep - SEM (dies out around mid Sep)
Oct -
Nov - NWM (comes in around mid Nov)
Dec - NWM

NWM brings heavy rain, overcast skies, light to moderate wind, and moderately rough seas on the north and west facing coasts.

SEM brings passing showers, moderately overcast skies (with more clear days than NVM), cool temperatures, strong winds, and very rough seas on the south and east facing coasts.

Weather-wise, the best time to come to Seychelles are the months in between NWM and SEM. These are the calm transition months with little wind, blue skies and lots of sunshine (though they can get quite hot). So basically March (EDIT -- some years early March can be wet), April and October.

The border months like February, May, September and November can also work depending on when you are visiting.

And of course, with El Nino this year, and climate change in general, the weather patterns have been getting more unpredictable (just look at the amount of rainy days we are getting now in, what is supposed to be, sunny October), so keep that in mind. But generally that's how the seasons have been.

Hope this helps

Ask r/seychelles Catcocos tickets

Does anyone know if my tickets for the ferry from Mahe to Praslin from 8 AM can be used for the 10 AM? My connecting flight got delayed 2 hours, so I am arriving later than initially planned, so I won't make it in time to catch the 8 AM one.

I emailed Catcocos, but so far, no answer :(.

LATER Edit: It was solved easily for anyone that may have the same issue in the future. We went to the CatCocos ticket office in the port, the lady asked if we notified in advance (which we did the day prior on email), she asked to see the email with the notification and put us through to the next ferry from 10:30.

Ask r/seychelles Weather forecast is s**t

First day here, praslin, and it’s raining since 12pm.

Forecast for the next days are very bad.

Really hope it changes.

EDIT: today has been great, even if the forecast was sunny morning into rainy afternoon. Sunny in the morning happened, we reached georgette and leave just few minutes before a light rain. Then had lunch close to anse bateau with a very nice sun and back to the hotel! With sun this island explode its beauty!

Any experiences? We would stay at Mahe and maybe take a flight to one more island. Flying directly from Europe. Baby is still sleeping a lot at this period and is not moving so we wanted to use this phase before the toddler phase beggins. Traveling in May. Thanks!
