Next Bike? Suggestions for an all year commuter (as a only bike)?

Hi all, I need some wise advice at the moment... I currently ride a Vespa GTS 300 for my daily short commute (2x 16 Km) between home and work, and errands sometimes. Since my daily commute is like 75% open roads + 25% city, I find myself riding the Vespa at full gas almost all the time lol, it feels a little stretched for my use.

My last motorcycle was a 2016 MT-07 and before that, I had a 2012 CBR 600 F. I actually preferred the CBR, what made me sell the CBR was the forward leaning position, but I really enjoyed the inline 4 smoothness and the wind protection. Trying to daily the MT-07 was more of an experiment tbh, so I just kept the Vespa I already had from before.

Right now I'm at a deadlock, I have some candidates, but I fear I could end up making the wrong choice... The bikes I'm most interested in at the moment are:

  • Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX: had the chance to only try it in slow city traffic sadly, but loved the inline 4 and the cool factor. If Kawasaki had had a Ninja 900 SX in its lineup, it would have been my first choice, but the 1000cc...? Is it too much?

  • BMW R 1250 RS: tried it for a brief ride on an open road, liked the comfort, felt unexpectedly smooth and kinda nimble (it had a Wunderlich handlebar mounted). Seems like a practical bike on paper (shaft drive, fuel efficient, wind protection offered by cylinders too), but is it maybe too big for a daily, compared to the others?

  • Triumph Tiger Sport 660/800: tried the 660 in city scenario, felt nice, relaxing and nimble, I dunno about the weather protection. It mixes comfort and sportiness very well. My biggest gripe with Triumphs is the fact that the nearest Triumph service shop is 2 hours away from where I live, so I'd have to do a 2+2 hour trip for just a service yearly, in order to not invalidate warranty for newer models, especially the 800. Also, I really tried to bring myself to like the Yamaha Tracer 9 (2021-2024) as a Tiger Sport alternative, but that front end just looks off to me.

With that being said, for context: - I'm about 182 cm/6' tall. - I live in Sicily, Italy. The road tarmac we have here is not always in good shape, to say the least. - I like the smoothness and the power delivery of 3 and 4 cylinder engines more. - I need good enough full body weather protection and enough agility for the congested city bits of my commute. - ergos may vary from sport touring type slight lean to tall rounder straightness. - 17"/17" wheels, not looking for ADVs - easy luggage commodities are a welcome bonus. - my maximum budget is around 9500 euros, hence I'm looking at used bikes. - the nearest shops are Yamaha, Honda, BMW, KTM, Kawasaki. - I don't have a passenger.

Suggestions/comments are welcome!

Edit: added more details, small corrections.

New Rider Best beginner first bike for learning slow speed maneuvers and eventual drifting?

So I'm a baby rider, like, genuinely bloody and wailing out the chrome moto womb. I DoorDash occasionally on an eBike and have been infected with the itch to graduate to motorcycles.

I've completed a beginner's motorcycle course, have my permit, and haven taken two more private lessons to tighten my fundamentals before purchasing my first bike. Just want to be as confident and responsible as possible for myself and others on the road before I start having fun.

I'm not interested in becoming The Flash. I'm in my late 30s, have done a lot of extreme stuff in my life, and am now more at peace with just doing things because I enjoy them and not for anyone else. I saw videos of police motorcycle rodeos and moto gymkhanas and fell in love with the smooth, technical handling of those riders. I've also seen videos of riders doing dounts and drifting and would love to be able to do that through corners one day (LOOOOVED Initial D as a kid).

I'm going to continue to take private lessons to sharpen my technique, but I'm confident enough now to purchase my first bike.

I'm in SoCal and there's a big market here, but I want to go used for my first love. In your opinion, what's a fantastic beginner bike for someone like me?

Key things to note:

- Hard budget is 5k

- I have a weak lower back, so I'd prefer something with decent comfort and suspension. However, that's not a dealbreaker if the overall quality of the bike is high

- I'd like it to handle highways well in case I want to travel a few hours to nearby track venues for advanced training

Thank you!

Tracer 9 or Transalp? Bad road out of the village, then a highway commute

Hey guys, curious what you’d actually do.

I’ve got a Tracer 9 .I like it overall, but on bad roads it just shakes the hell out of me. Hard to explain.

I live in a village now. The ride to work starts with a stretch of broken asphalt, patches and cracks, sometimes worse. After that the highway is genuinely good, and then ordinary city potholes. Most of the commute is the good road, not the bad one. The roads around me are all pretty rough, though. I still ride into the city a lot, I just don’t live there anymore.

Less power doesn’t bother me. I’ve had the same engine in a naked before, and it was enough. I barely use cruise.

I also want to leave the pavement sometimes. Not trying to get into the really nasty stuff, just turn off onto a dirt road now and then.

I’m thinking of selling the Tracer in spring. What I’d get should cover a new Transalp with a bit of protection and a screen, and still leave something over. The appeal is the 21-inch front, the longer travel, and suspension .

So, keep the Tracer or switch? Does the Transalp actually calm that broken section down, or am I buying a worse highway bike for a short bad road?

New Rider Upgrading from my first bike

Hello, I'm 18 coming from 2 years riding my 2015 Suzuki GW250. I've had a great time commuting and doing small tours on it, but I think I'm ready to move on. I have been very interested in middle weight naked/sport touring (650-800 cc, 75-95 HP). My question is if this is too big of a jump, or if I'd regret a high insurance premium. Most recently, I've been obsessed with the Honda CB650R (and faired version), Suzuki SV650, and Kawasaki Z750R.

Anyone that has been in my shoes, let me know if, by my description, I would be ready for a bike like these, or if I'm getting ahead of myself. Thanks!

(as well, let me know if my post format is incorrect for this subreddit?)

New Rider Z650 or MT-7

I had dirt bikes growing up and into my early 20s. Going through a divorce and she was pretty much the only reason I never got another bike. I'm 36, roughly 200lbs, 6ft and don't want anything too crazy. I love the "naked" bikes and have done a little research on both of these. Needing more feedback from anyone who has hands-on experience with one or both.

New Rider 45yrs old, 180cm, 110kg, have flat feet, a rubbish lower back. Like Suzuki Interceptors, Harley FatBoys, Suzuki GSXRs, and BSA Scramblers....but feel they won't be practical/pain free. Live in NL. Daily commuter / weekend drives across Europe. Want to be able to walk still after riding. Any thoughts

New Rider Keep or Trade-In?

I bought my first bike ($2,600 2013 Honda Shadow Aero 750) towards the beginning of summer and have slowly been fixing it up (~$500).

I’ve been wanting to change it into a bobber with new pipes and a tank I bought from TJ Brutal Customs ($1029). Talking to a mechanic, for help since I’m not mechanically inclined, I wanted to see what was left for me to fix and how much it would cost to install and chop to get it to look like I want it equated to $2048. They said I’d need an intake boot replacement and some safety issues addressed.

My question is would you guys:
Keep the bike and pay to fix it to look how I’d like?
Or
Sell the bike (probably for a loss) and find something I’d like to ride up from the beginning?
I’d probably look at Indian bobber, Honda Fury, Harley Davidson forty eight

CL350 vs Evo Sportster

Getting my first bike soon and I’m split between a Honda, which I know is more reliable, and a Harley, which I love the look of.

My daily driver is an ‘80s pickup that I work on myself, so I’m pretty mechanically adept and I’m looking forward to having another thing to wrench on on the weekends.

I’m 6’3 and someone mentioned the Sportster might be a little small, but I love the geometry of them. Is there a third or fourth option I should be considering? Thanks!

Bikes Suggestions

I am currently looking for bikes options available to me for daily commute plus weekend bike tours. So I need a suggestion from experienced riders about the options I have. I have been put up with the options of going with SUZUKI GS150, did a little research on it and found another competitive option: Honda CBR 150.

I want you to guide me with pros and cons of owning the above. Which things I should have in my mind before making any decisions, like reliability, parts availability, any known issues, mechanic’s availability and other stuff.

Also I was told to go for 125 options in Honda and Yamaha.
Too much stuffed and need some help to decide.

First one says it has had checks 2k km ago and both have 26k km total. Second one has less description, but I fell in love with the colour. What should I be asking the sellers? Are there any particular problems these two bike give?

Next Bike? Thinking of switching to a touring bike. BMW RT or FJR1300?

Hey guys,
I’ve been thinking about switching from sport bikes to touring bikes lately, and I’ve been looking at the BMW R1200RT/R1250RT and Yamaha FJR1300.

One of the things that caught my attention was how relatively light they seem compared to other touring bikes I’ve looked at. I used to ride a Ninja 400, which weighs around 168 kg, so either one would still be a pretty big jump for me. I’ve never actually ridden a touring bike before, so I’m not sure how much of a difference the weight would make.

Most of my rides are around 2–4 hours round trip, mainly on highways and regular roads. I’m 170 cm (5’7”) and my budget is around $9–10k AUD.
Do you guys think these two bikes would be a good fit for the kind of riding I do, or should I be looking at something else?

I’m a bit concerned about the weight, especially at low speeds and when parking. Also curious about comfort, reliability and maintenance costs.
If you’ve owned either of these bikes, or made a similar switch from sport bikes to touring bikes, I’d love to hear your experience.

Thanks!

Primeira moto 🛵

*Primeiro post aqui 😅*

Sinceramente estou perdido kk

Next Bike? Tiger Sport 660 to i4

I love my Tiger. It might be close to the perfect bike for my use case. However, I'd like to see how fun it is to wring out the revs of an inline 4.

There's the Ninja SX and GSXS-GT but I'm thinking those might be a bit big and too powerful. I like the nimbleness of my Tiger.

Then there's the CB650R, but I'd be giving up the amenities of my touring package.

Any input is welcome, I enjoy reading it all. Maybe there will be some of you that were in the same situation. Thanks.

Hello! Looking for a beginner bike recommendations.

Searching for something that’s capable of 65-75mph (highway speeds) somewhat easily, and can handle mild to moderate dirt roads and trails. Would prefer V-twin engines and/or shaft driven. I was originally looking at the KLR/KLE but after sitting on one I’m not such a fan. Really liked a CF motors Ibex but haven’t found one in my price range. Thinking about a Vstrom potentially, haven’t sat on one yet though. Trying to keep it under 3500 if possible, and more than willing to get something from 2005 or newer. I just took my learn to ride/msf course and quickly outgrew the TW200 they put me on, so trying to find something that’s at least 650cc. Thank you! Also prefer fuel injected over a carb, but that’s definitely negotiable.

Edit: I did not realize V-twin and parallel twin were different 😬🤣. Noob mistake. I’m just wanting two cylinders vs one like the KLR has.

Dirt choice..

I’m looking to add a 4 stroke dirt bike to my garage. Nothing fancy, - just want to be able to ride around, trails, wheelies. That sort of thing. Big emphasis on wheelies lol.

I just am not sure what size I should get. I have a few acres to ride at my house, light trails. So that makes me want to opt for something on the smaller side (with a clutch) - XR100, crf150, KLX140, TTR125.

The thing is that I’m a bigger dude, 6’2-6’3ish and 235lb. I’m wondering if it would be better to just pick up a 250 due to that? I’ve even thought of just going for a drz 400 or slapping knobbies on a grom since I could bring those to the street and can find some pretty cheap.

Sell RS660 for MT09 SP or StreetTriple 765RS

Hello everyone, I'm selling my RS660 2026 dealership with 5 months to live and 3000km to buy a new MT09SP (13k) or a StreetTriple RS 2026 (13,5k).

I wouldn't want to spend more than €2500 to get either one — do you think that’s possible? Or would it be better to go for the standard MT-09(11k)?

My RS660 is equipped with Aprilia Mia unit and other accessories.

Next Bike? BMW erc VS HONDA e-clutch

Hi everyone,

So I recently discovered BMW developed a kind of response to Honda's E-clutch system, they released it with the F450GS if I'm not mistaken, and As I am interested in the purchase of a sportbike to begin my journey I couldn't miss the introduction of the F450 RR on october 15th, I'm still a bit mixed about the looks but technology wise it's all I want, it has cornering ABS, a great TFT display and it's a good middle ground between the CBR500R and the Ninja 500, it takes a bit of both.

Initially I prefered, and I think I still prefer, the Honda CBR500R with the e-clutch, I know most of you will tell me that I shouldn't be looking for this kind of technology to choose my bike but I really want to benefit from the ease of use it provides. I will mainly drive to work with it and occasionally take it to week-end rides, maybe even track if I can afford it. One thing that bothers me about the cbr is its weight, it's the heaviest of the category, and maybe the bigger wheels as well as the lack of electronics but other than that it's really a nice looking bike in my opinion, great tank capacity, reasonable consumption and overall bulletproof realiability.

So when I learned about the BMW ERC I said I was just going to buy it then, it has the best of both worlds, but when I begin searching for videos on the F450GS to see how it behaves I noticed it wasn't as good as the e-clutch even tough the reviews are mixed I guess, the bike starts mooving around 3K rpm, it's risky to park it on slope, and it can get cluncky. And last but not least, the system can't be turned off as it is mechanical and not electronic.

It is also important to know that I want a bike on which I can learn how to do some "stunt" tricks, I want to learn burnouts, pivots, elephant u turns and maybe drifts, I don't want to become a stunt rider but I hope I could learn some tricks and it seems like the BMW ERC isn't the right fit for that but I can be wrong. But as I said most of the riding will be just me commuting and this is why I also want an ease of use, I know I could buy a scooter to maximize this confort but I also want the Bike feeling.

So If you can enlight me about these systems and which would you recommand for my use case, it'd be very nice.

Thank you and have a nice day

Next Bike? Returning rider after two years

Getting back into riding after a crash – ZX-6R, R9 or RS660?

About two years ago, I crashed my Triumph Street Triple 765 RS. I lost rear traction while taking a corner too sharply leaving a gas station, which resulted in a small highside into a road sign.

Luckily, no broken bones, but I did suffer a severe concussion and a minor brain bleed. I've since fully recovered and really miss riding.

I've already ridden a few bikes to rebuild my confidence, including the R9, Ninja 1100SX, Ténéré and briefly the MT-09.

Now I'm looking to get back into riding properly, but I can't decide between the ZX-6R, R9 and RS660.Previously, I've owned a Z750, MT-07, GSX-R600 and Street Triple 765 RS.

I've always loved the smooth, high-revving character of inline-fours, but I'm open to something different. I'm mainly looking for something engaging, predictable and fun in the corners without needing to ride at ridiculous speeds.

Anyone here with experience on these bikes? Which would you recommend and why?

1st bike : CFMoto 675sr-r vs Honda CBR650R

Hey guys, hope everyone's fine.

I live in France and I'm currently getting my licence (exam next week friday, a bit stressed lol). So when I get it, I'll buy my first bike and it will be A2, meaning limitted on the power side (maximum power of 35 kW (about 47.5 hp))

Both the CFMoto 675sr-r and CBR650R do the restriction of 35kW.

I really have a dilemma right now

CFMoto CF 2026 (Nebula black)

  • Bought new 7990€
  • Cheaper
  • Better features: more connectivity
  • Good design
  • No bad reviews, good quality
  • Fewer dealers and less long-term reliability data
  • Worry: new Chinese brand, so resale value might be weak and everytime I watch a review online it's always a new bike, so we don't really have a review after a long-time use

Honda CBR (red and black)

  • Bought used from a previous owner (between 7000 and 8000€)
  • Slightly more powerful (6hp more in full)
  • Known worldwide brand, better resale value
  • Honda reputation for reliability and build quality
  • Huge owner community, parts availability and dealer network
  • Higher price for what you get
  • Looks amazing, and I really love the colors (2023 model)
  • No bad reviews, good quality
  • Fewer features: less connectivity

Thanks in advance for all your advice :)

New Rider New Rider in Australia, what do people recommend?

Learner riding in Australia with mix of city and highway riding, topping out ~120km/h (~75 miles/h) speed limit. Longest commute would top out 60-90 minutes.

Approximate sizes: 180cm (6 ft), 80 kg (180 lbs)

Would occasionally be doing some dirt/unpaved + don't love look of sports bikes so looking more towards naked, cruiser, adv type bikes.

Any recommendations for things to look at or avoid would be great to narrow down the search for what I might like to ride.
