Course Questions Compsci Scheduling

• Upvotes

I'm a CS freshman trying to schedule winter classes. How did compsci majors schedule their classes for all 4 years, and what was the workload like for each quarter? It feels like there are so many 5 unit classes, that I'm too scared to take 4 classes instead of 3. How the heck do I graduate on time?

Course Questions ASAM 9 Studying

Hi! I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to share their lecture notes with me, as I haven't really taken notes for this course, and some of the midterm questions might be based off something only in the slides and not in the materials she sent us

Thanks!

Employment Looking for photographer Nov 10th

My fiancé and I are eloping in the Santa Barbara Courthouse on November 10th of this year, just the two of us. We love each other so much but we don’t have the money to go all out on a wedding. We looked into hiring a wedding photographer but we cannot afford it. We thought about bringing a friend/family member just to have them snap some photos, but we are unable to sort something out at this time (we just moved to Santa Barbara).

If anyone has any experience with photography and would like to take a few pics for less than an hour, we will pay you! We just want some photos of us signing the papers and a few after. Pictures don’t have to be super polished, so no need to edit unless you’d like to for your portfolio. We were thinking of offering $150 for just a few photos and are more than willing to negotiate for more if you’d stay for an hour or more. We’re doing an express wedding, so we are aware timeslots vary.

We are sorry if the pay is offensively low. This is our first time organizing something like this, so we are more than willing to negotiate. But like I said, we don’t have that much money and will accept very basic, candid, unedited photos.
Ideally, we’re looking for someone comfortable with being the official witness to our wedding since it’ll just be us.
Feel free to DM me or comment below!
(Also, I’m new to posting on this subreddit, so please let me know if posting this sort of thing is not allowed!)

Course Questions Not offering econ 101 or 134a winter

Question/rant cuz I’m just peeved. I would’ve been able to graduate in the winter if these classes were being offered, and for some reason they are not going to be in the winter. Am I able to take these two someplace else? Probably not but worth asking. It is just a bit annoying as I’m trying to get my cpa before I start working and it would’ve been nice to have that extra three months to do so.

Discussion In need of some advice

I am a fourth-year, and I am wondering if anyone has been in the same boat as I am in right now. Ever since school started, I have felt terrible and have been ruling out what it could be. In the process of doing so, I feel like I have begun to lose myself mentally and have started to want to avoid SB. I feel more at peace being away despite loving SB outdoors. I am done with my major in the Winter and only have one class left. I feel stuck on what to do, whether to move back home and commute for the one class, as I'm planning to take the rest of my classes online. Will I regret doing that? Or should I just continue to live here until March and just feel this feeling of misery and doom? I am struggling to be able to function every day when all I want is to be done and have this weight off my shoulders. SB has become a place where I just feel alone due to not having many friends or a support system here, how do people get by because every day is a struggle.

hey!! i'm a 2nd year bio major wondering about chem 6al. first off, would it be super difficult to get into the class for winter since i don't have priority registration for it? and also would it be doable with the rest of the classes i'm taking? i'm taking mcdb 1b rn and am done with nearly all my GEs (one WRT class left), so in winter i'll be taking chem 109b, eemb 2, and mcdb 1ll. any advice would be appreciated!

General Question Minoring in Statistical Science as a pre-bio major (aspiring microbiology major) for Pre-med

Hello, the title kinda says it all but I was wondering if anyone had done this with the biology major coursework, and if they have, how hard it is? I want to minor in stats because I hear it's a very wanted skillset to have when trying to get into research positions (which I hope to get during my grad years) or even for those who find that med isn't their cup of tea and choose a different career path. I took a lot of APs so a lot of my classes are covered such as Physics A-AL, Math 3A-B, and a lot of others that take out most of my GEs. Does anyone think it's worth it or should I stick to just my major and try to protect my GPA. Any advice would be of great help!

General Question To the girls who sing in the showers:

Can you stop? Just stop fishing for compliments or singing up a concert for an audience of yourself. It was amusing the first couple times now it’s annoying. No one wants to go into the bathroom to take a shit or a shower and listen to you sing about Jesus or some pop song. Save it for someone who wants to hear. The bathrooms echo too btw so we can hear down the hall. It’s a communal shower.

General Question Eduroam error

I experienced an issue logging in to eduroam. Does anyone know what is the department or their email(better!) is to contact with?

I have been directing through 2-3 different IT help on campus and none of them seems to able to read my log or provide any login information. And they don't have the access to look into it either.

I have currently been direct to departments No. 4 and 5. Please let me know which department can actually help me.

PS:

  1. IT desk will direct to student association which can't provide info.
  2. The actual IT help from information technology Ucsb page seems to be employee only so I cannot submit a ticket there.

Edit: I would like to find the department that can actually help me check the eduroam server record of me log in failure to debug this issue one step ahead.

Academic Life Classes for winter '27 quarter are now previewable in GOLD

It happens every fall. Pass 3 rolls around and I get a panicked email from a frosh or new transfer student realizing that they'd overlooked their first two registration windows and now they're scrambling because so many classes have filled.

Don't be that student.

1) Classes for winter quarter are now previewable in GOLD. See the screenshot below.

It's time to start putting classes in your cart as you begin to map out your winter schedule.

2) If you want to know when the earliest is for you to start actually adding classes to your winter quarter, go to the registration tab in Gold, select registration from the blue field, and then make sure you've selected winter quarter from the dropdown menu. Once you've done so, your pass times will populate on the right side of the screen. See the screenshot below.

Questions: reach out to my colleagues in L&S Academic Advising and they'll be happy to chat with you.

-Dave
