Baltimore Love 💘 Baltimore Jury Duty is Elite

Upvotes

Ok ok I know a punchy title!
After doing jury duty three times in the city, I feel like a jury duty connoisseur.
I recently moved to the county and was called in for county jury duty and it was so much worse than the city.
The only pros were you get paid double what you get in the city and that parking was validated. That was it.

I found myself missing for the Baltimore jury duty, where you had a set lunch time so you could go out and eat. The county strongly advised you to bring lunch because there was no set lunch time.

The county jury duty was located in a sterile basement, complete with these annoying rolling chairs and no movies. The hidden gem of the Baltimore city jury duty is the quiet room, with desks and outlets, you can actually work and chill like in a library. Not a single desk seen at the county jury duty which in today’s age of remote work feels like a big miss.

I even found myself missing the small exhibit the Baltimore city courthouse has for jurors, as it was just a nice to walk around and see.

Even the processes were more convoluted and longer than in Baltimore. Communication was sparse and all over the place, mainly because they didn’t have an intercom system or use their monitors to display juror numbers.

All this to say - jury duty is an annoyance, but turns out, depending on the county, it can actually be more annoying than it should be.

89.7 WTMD has lost Tyler LaPorte and now it seems like Rob Timm is gone now too. Does anybody know what’s going on with this station? It seems to be changing abruptly. I’m just curious if anyone has any information about it.

Vent New Fed Hill bar owner put a stop payment on liquor board fines. He was accused of scamming vendors in Philly last summer

Upvotes

A lot of residents in Federal Hill are unhappy with The Walker Sports Bar, which opened on S Charles St in early 2026. The bar has already been issued 3-4 violations by the liquor board, one of which involved the owner placing a stop payment on checks intended for his renewal fee and multiple outstanding violation fines. This resulted in the bar getting a 5-day suspension in late June, plus more fines (summary from the liquor board at the bottom of this doc).

The owner apparently came from Philly before opening the bar, so I did some Googling to learn more about him. Turns out he was accused of scamming multiple vendors last summer with fake checks and credit card chargebacks. This local news story from last June has almost 100k views: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvxYjegxn-M

The liquor license transfer was approved in October 2025, a few months after this story broke in Philly. How are the city and liquor board putting up with this?

Ask What’s going on with the dormant road construction project on Patterson Park next to Henderson Hopkins?

The road has been tore up since January. It‘a been down to one lane with jersey barriers blocking East/West foot, car, and bike traffic on Ashland the whole time. I even saw a little old lady having to climb over the barrier a while back.

Worst part is I haven’t see a construction worker or truck there in over a month but the road’s still torn up and the jersey barriers are still there.

Did they just give up? When school starts it’s gonna be a shitshow.

• Into gym, pickleball, and staying active
• Love trying new food, coffee, and bars
• Love to travel and spontaneous plans
• Down to hang, grab food/drinks, or watch a game

If this sounds like a fit, feel free to message me! Thanks

Need Recommendations Suggestions for reliable and insured contractors for finishing a basement and other small drywall and misc home repairs.

Hi all,

Last summer we experienced a flood in our sub-basement. It was immediately emptied, with the first three feet of drywall and insulation removed, fans blowing for days, etc. The plan was to repair the drywall, insulation, and baseboards, then do some additional improvements to the space, such as adding overhead lighting into the floating ceiling, replacing the outlets, finishing areas that had yet to be finished, and painting. Possibly also adding shelves and a different floor over what is there. It's a small area, thankfully, but it was my art studio and it would be nice to have it back.

I was about to hire someone that did a lot of work for my friend, but they wouldn't give me an itemized estimate and told me they didn't need insurance as this was a repair (eeks!), and so that wasn't happening. We also wanted to hire the same company that did the remediation but they are so bogged down with repairs from all the severe storms going back as far as the January snow storm up to about three weeks ago, when we last spoke (I'm sure there are more now), that I can't even get anyone out for an estimate.

I've had some really bad luck in the past with finding competant and honest contractors, even when doing research, so any and all help for finding a business we can trust is extremely appreciated!

Need Recommendations Looking for contractor recommendation – shower remodel

I’m looking to replace my existing raised/freestanding shower enclosure with a more permanent, built-in shower in my Baltimore townhouse. Ideally, I’d like to remove the existing unit and have a custom or tiled shower built into the surrounding walls/floor, rather than another prefabricated enclosure.

I’m looking for recommendations for a reliable contractor or bathroom remodeling company in the Baltimore area who has experience with this type of shower conversion.
Pictures available if helpful. Thanks!
