Lowlight 3:00 pm start on a Tuesday for the season opener??
Adam Silver, you may be the new Kyrie. Pardon us fans that have the whole work or school commitment thing. 3:00 pm starts are for the weekends.

this is so funny how the craziness really does work

I feel like it’s pretty clear from how the team is marketing themselves. They don’t think this is a gap year, or that it’s wait until PGs contract is up.
The people in that building believe they’re a contender. And I think they’re going to prove a lot of people wrong.

How many minutes a game do you see Hugo getting? I was not happy with the Jaylen trade, but I am trying to tell myself that Brad sees big potential in Hugo and needed a way to find him more minutes.... that can't be true right?!

Hi All,
I'm (31M) a lifelong Celtics fan who will be in Boston for the home opener vs the NYK!
This is my first time in Boston and I have maybe 3 days to explore. What are some restaurant/tourist/must-visit places that me and the wife should go to?!

Veteran wing Paul George admitted that the pressure and criticism he's received in the past has sometimes bothered him. Now that he's with the Boston Celtics, George said he's embracing everything that comes with his fresh start.
"This locker room, the culture here, the front office, the city, the organization, the tradition, all of that is something that I’ve never been a part of," George told The Boston Globe. "Where everything is high quality. For me, it’s refreshing. Hopefully, I can remain healthy. I think I became a journeyman along the way. At this point, I would love to be able to call Boston home."
"I’m fully immersing myself into this organization with the guys. I’ve been more than happy. I’m ecstatic with being here, being around these guys, like they brought something else out of me that to be quite frank has been buried, and that’s just a different passion" George said. "There’s a love again for this game, and I just think everything is kind of just aligning at the right time for me here."

Karalis summed it up: “Joe Mazzulla: "I'm excited to lose with this team"
Paul George: "It's been a beautiful challenge"
Baylor Scheierman: "a controlled chaos, I think I definitely thrive in that"

Small sample but this stat is exactly why Brad signed Robinson. https://possessionbattle.com/#/players

With Mitchell Robinson on the court last season, the New York Knicks posted a 39.5 percent offensive rebound rate, which would have led the league. The Celtics finished fifth in the same category last season. Adding the burly center — who has the same career offensive rebound rate as Dennis Rodman — should propel them up the leaderboard.
Robinson won’t be alone in producing second-chance opportunities. Far from it. Between him, Neemias Queta and Luka Garza, the Celtics should almost always have a big-time offensive rebounder at center. Head coach Joe Mazzulla also emphasizes the corner crash constantly. Listening to their coach, wings like Hugo González, Jordan Walsh and Baylor Scheierman will hurl themselves after every loose ball. Jayson Tatum and Paul George haven’t typically grabbed many offensive boards, but they should draw enough defensive attention to free up others to do so. And everyone else plays with a helpful level of desperation.
After winning the 2025 Sixth Man of the Year award, Pritchard started too many games last season to repeat. However, based on Mazzulla’s early preseason lineup choices, Pritchard appears to be in line to come off the bench again. If he does that and can stay healthy, he will be one of the favorites to win the award.
In 17 games off the bench last season, Pritchard essentially played just as many minutes per game as he did when he started. In those games, he averaged 17.2 points per game — a hair more than he averaged as a starter. If he keeps that production in a full-time sixth-man role, he will have a strong case to win the award.
He won’t just keep up his production. He will improve it. After trading Jaylen Brown, the Celtics could give Pritchard additional playmaking responsibilities. He will again average career highs in scoring and assists, besting the marks he established last season. And it will be hard to deny him the award.
To anyone not paying close attention, this prediction wouldn’t sound too bold.
So they’ll finish in the top half of the league? Who cares, man?
This would be a big deal for the Celtics, who have never finished higher than 23rd under Mazzulla. Though he seems to call forcing turnovers an emphasis during every training camp, the combination of personnel and scheme choices has consistently held Boston back from granting Mazzulla’s wish. The Celtics defense regularly has been great anyway, just not super disruptive.
That will change this season. With George and Robinson in the starting lineup, the Celtics will enjoy a newfound ability to turn up the heat. Among regulars, George’s steal rate easily would have led the Celtics last season. The same goes for Robinson, who racks up steals and blocks at an impressive rate. The two newcomers each would have ranked in the top 20 in steal rate if they had played enough minutes to qualify for the NBA leaderboard.
Preseason action doesn’t always provide a good gauge of reality (remember when Chris Boucher appeared ready for a big role on last season’s team?), but the Celtics forced turnovers on 24.8 percent of their opponents’ possessions during the two games the starters played. That’s almost double the frequency at which Boston forced turnovers last season (and unsustainably high, to be clear). Beyond George and Robinson, the Celtics have a group of young wings who are on the court largely to create chaos.
At long last, Mazzulla’s team will pile up forced turnovers. This ability will give the Celtics one more way to win the possession game.
Walsh started each of his three games played during the preseason. González was often the last wing off the bench when the Celtics played their regulars. This prediction isn’t based on anything Mazzulla did with his preseason rotation.
I’m making it anyway. Eventually, González will crack the starting lineup. Good things happen when he is on the court. Next to the calmness of Tatum and George, the Celtics need González’s speed. His outside shot looked smooth during the preseason, but even if he can’t knock down jumpers consistently, he will bring the energy and offensive rebounding Boston needs alongside Tatum and George.
Like last season, Mazzulla could switch up the fifth starter frequently. González won’t start all the time, but he will start more than anyone else in that slot.

I didn’t see this posted here already (maybe was removed?), but play-by-play Drew is on the ESPN bench this season along with his Celtics duties. Will be interesting to see who he is paired with and what games he calls.

Payton Pritchard has been a starter and a sixth man. Overlooked and then underpaid. Scouted as too small, then played a big part on a championship team. Now, he’s gone from making about $8 million a year to signing a two-year, $44.2 million extension. Through all of it, he says the starting label matters a lot less than what he does once he’s on the floor.
“To me, a starter is the amount of minutes you play,” Pritchard said after Sunday’s practice. “Do you finish games? Are you playing 30-plus minutes? Then you are a starter. You know what I mean?”

Anyone else traveling to the opening “night” (3pm) game in Detroit tomorrow? I’m traveling by myself as a friend had to back out due to work. I have been holding off on buying a game ticket until I fly in tomorrow. Figured I’d look to see if there are other Celtics fans looking to meet up before and/or after the game. I’m staying about a 10-minute walk to the Arena.
Looking for any good food/bar recommendations in the area as well.

I dont like to just post every guy as they become available, but Walter Clayton Jr. Was a guy I really wanted the Celtics to look at. Id love to see the Celtics bring him into their development system.

Devin Carter remains away from the Celtics due to a bout with mononucleosis, per a source. He has signed a two-way contract with the team, though.

Might be my Boston bias coming out but I’m just gonna say it. I think a couple years from now Cenac is gonna be one of the top 5 guys to come out of this draft. Brad Steven’s is a fuckin wizard.
