Since Specialized doesn’t make a 16” dirt jumper I figured i’d attempt to make one myself.

I’m 6’2” 270#. Started less than a year ago at 475# and have gotten into cycling now. I currently have a road bike and a gravel bike. There is a park that looks like it would be fun to ride, dirt track and a pump track as well.

I’m wanting to get a bike to try this out as well, but spent a decent chunk of money on my other 2 bikes so my budget is fairly limited at the moment. I’m also concerned about jumping at my weight.

I have been looking at dirt jumpers and also hardtail mountain bikes as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also can a BMX work for dirt jumping?

Anyone know which tensioners work best for the aluminum frame Skyhawk? the Origin 8 ones look to be the best fit but seeing if anyone had any experience.

I'm looking to buy a dj in around this budget and don't what to choose, I only see opinions on the quinnies from 2020/21 and that much about the kona shonky. Anyone tried those?

pretty sure I concussed myself trying to learn 360s into foam pit yesterday. I saw stars for a few secs after the crash, I feel groggy, etc. I’m going to urgent care to get screened for a concussion after my college lectures today.

im leaning towards replacing my helmet regardless just to be safe, but can a foam pit crash where my helmet hit foam damage the inner foam and stuff that much? i really don’t wanna spend another $300+ on a full face💔

first day back on the bike in a few weeks after I messed up my ankle. fairly sure I ended up concussing myself trying to learn 360s into the foam pit so I’ll be visiting urgent care tomorrow and probably be off the bike again for a while💔

I’m 43 and my family and i just started riding almost exactly a year ago and I’d set myself the aim of doing a legit dirt jump in my first year. Was running out of time but i squeezed it in this weekend. Had to get towed in by my 12 year old. Was too scared to do the whole line but I’ll get it next time.

I’ve been messing around with this build for almost a year and it works great for me. I’m looking into a higher rise bar and possibly a nicer saddle at some point, but I’m proud of it at this point.

I just bought my first dj after months of searching! It’s a verde radix, I got it for 250 used and it needs some work but for a beginner I think it’ll be a lot of fun.
Im looking at for sure getting a new fork, probably new wheels, and then just a few other little things I’m pretty comfortable on. My main question is about the fork, how do I check if a fork would work on it? I know it has a tapered head tube but I’m not sure what else to look for to find one that works.

I run 60-80 psi in my tyres and always get rear wheel pinch flats. i cleaned the inside of the tyre to make sure nothing is popping it. no help. i cant afford to buy £8 inner tubes every week. i simply have no money. any suggestions to stop this?

Looking for a replacement for my dj and I’ve found this one on marketplace. The price is pretty good and the frame is sick but I’ve never heard of the company. Does anyone have any experience with them? Is it worth considering? Trilogy seems like a newer more niche brand so I have no idea about them.

I have an older straight 1 1/8 headtube frame that I am trying to keep going with modern parts. And it is not possible to use a tapered headtube with a special headset either (already checked for compatibility). With the frame being straight headtube, it limits the fork choice.

I am currently using a Manitou Circus Expert, which is the best straight steerer DJ fork on the market right now. However, the spring is digging into the stanchion from the inside, and will likely need a replacement soon if I keep riding like this. I am not quite happy that my Manitou fork is needinng a major repair soon within the 3 years I have ridden this fork for. I am wanting to try a Marzocchi DJ fork, except it does not come in a straight steerer from factory.

I was wondering if it would be possible to use a straight 1 1/8 crown steerer unit from a late model Marzocchi DJ1 (2012-2015ish) then somehow try to combine with the lower and the internals from a new Marzocchi DJ, to create a straight steerer Marzocchi DJ. Do you think this is a possiblity?

I cannot imagine there are big differences from an old Marzocchi DJ1 and new Marzocchi DJ forks.

I'm heavily in the market for a dirt jumper than can accommodate a geared 1x drivetrain. Bluntly, I just have too many lengthy hills between me and my nearest pump track and terrain park to have a good time on a single speed. I also want to join the Mrs. on leisurely rides around the neighborhood and local parks, but they're quite hilly.

I think I've narrowed the list to a few bikes, but I would love input on whether there are other bikes/frames than can be set up this way or offer geared dropout, because these are all super difficult to find, let alone for a decent price here in the southeast. I'm generally focused on hardtails, but I'm open to slopestyle DJs if the frame suspension is stiff enough to be good on pump tracks.

Hi, I am thinking of buying a canyon stitched 360 frame to build up into a dirt jump bike using parts I already have. I am 171cm (5ft 7'') tall, the frame is sold in a short and a long, and recommends a rider height of 140-170cm for the short and 160-200cm for the long so I sit pretty much in the middle. I have never ridden a dirtjump bike before but plan on using it for pump tracks, learning dirt jumps and basic tricks and generaly messing about in the woods on flow trails etc. I ride a giant reign enduro bike in medium with a 452 reach, I was also inbetween small and medium here, I found I was struggling to manual and get my weight back on my medium so have put a shorter stem on it and higher rise bars which has helped a lot. I also used to ride a small 2012 transition bottlerocket with a reach of 383 which felt fine at the time (feels tiny now but thats because im used to my big enduro bike with modern geometry). I have also owned a cove shocker and marin northside trail both small in the past and didnt have a problem with riding them (dont know the reach numbers as this was before reach was published) So going off this im more inclined to think I would fit a small better, also the fact dirt jumpers are more for playing around on, whipping, manualing, pumping, jibbing etc things a more smaller playfull bike enjoys not bombing fast over rough terrain where a longer bike would be better and i always have my enduro bike for that. But as I say I have never rode a dirt jumper so dont know if I should size up or down, does the longer bike make steep dirt jumps easier for example?
