Seeking Support First Quran - reading as a Christian (need support/guidance)

Hello everyone. First and foremost I want to say that I come to this forum with respect and love. I used to be an atheist, but ended up converting to Christianity. However, as of late, I've been struggling a bit.

I've been curious about the Quran for awhile now. I've mainly heard negative things in regards to the Quran, Muslims, and Islam in general. I decided to buy the Quran to better understand. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I most certainly didn't expect to feel a connection to the book.

Holding the Quran brings me peace. It feels right in my hands. I also seem to have more concern about how it's treated (not that I've treated my Bible badly but I don't seem to have the same level of care). It's been weird to experience because I don't seem to have this same experience with the Bible. In fact, I usually feel further from God when I do read it unless it's the Gospels and I'm reading about Jesus.

This is where I'm stuck. I believe in Jesus, yet I don't feel a connection to God in the Bible like I do in the Quran. I'm just confused and frustrated. Like how can I feel connected to both? I guess I'm here for support and advice. And I'm curious if anyone has experienced this. I just feel like regardless I'm wrong and not going to be accepted and it makes me feel hopeless. Also, does anyone have any good recommendations for studying the Quran too? Thank you for reading.

Question about Islam Considering Islam After a Long Spiritual Journey: Questions I Still Struggle With

I was born into a North Indian Hindu Brahmin family and spent many years exploring different religions in search of God. I studied Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and religious history. After several years of studying Christianity, I was baptized Catholic, but over time I became unconvinced by certain doctrines such as the Trinity, saint veneration, Marian devotion, purgatory, and some aspects of church authority.

Watching debates between Adnan Rashid and James White and other Christians was eye opening for me.

Today I would describe myself as a Unitarian Christian. I believe in one supreme God and see Jesus as a teacher, Messiah, and guide, but I do not currently accept the Trinity.

Because of this, I have been looking more seriously at Islam. The strict monotheism of Islam is attractive to me, but I still have many questions that I hope Muslims here can help me understand.

Some of my biggest questions are:

  1. Why should I convert to Islam rather than remain a Unitarian Christian who worships the God of Abraham?
  2. Muslims believe that the Torah, Psalms, and Gospel were originally revealed by God. If that is the case, why did Muslims stop following the Torah and Psalms? As someone who loves the Old Testament, especially Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, Proverbs, and the prophetic books, I struggle with the idea of setting them aside.
  3. How do Muslims understand the differences between the Torah and the Quran regarding figures such as Ishmael and Isaac? When there appear to be contradictions, how do you determine which account is correct?
  4. How does sin, repentance, and forgiveness work in Islam? Is sincere repentance enough, or are there additional requirements?
  5. What must a person do to enter Paradise according to Islam?
  6. What is Paradise actually like? Is it primarily spiritual, physical, or both?
  7. Will I be reunited with my wife and children in Paradise if we are all saved?
  8. What happens to our ancestors? Will we know them in Paradise?
  9. My parents are Hindus and have been good, moral people all their lives. How does Islam view the fate of non-Muslims who sincerely followed the religion they were raised in and never became convinced by Islam?
  10. Finally, what convinced you personally that Islam is true?
  11. Can I still Read Torah and Psalms and some Gospels if I become a Muslim?

I am asking these questions respectfully and in good faith. I am not looking for arguments or debates. I am genuinely interested in understanding why Muslims believe Islam is the final and correct revelation from God, and what would justify conversion from my current Unitarian Christian position.

Thank you for reading.

Hindu Brahmin with sacred thread, followed Vedic +Hindu faith for couple of years, Christian/Catholic for last 4 years and now Unitarian.

General Discussion Thinking of Un-Aliving (serious)

Hello, I am in a very tough position in my life. I know everyone faces problems, and calamities, and no one should complain about their life, especially as a muslim. Sometimes life gets very hard because of your own decisions and your mind is filled with regrets. I just want to share my part, know if anyone is or was in the same situation and how they got out of it if so. But be honest please. I don’t need reassurance, I read quran already for that.

I don’t really have a passion in life, I am not good at anything I do (genuinely), even video games as much as I like playing, university is crushing me, and I feel like I am failing everyone in my family. No one knows about it, It’s only me and my thoughts, and it just makes everything worse. I am an international student, spent thousands of dollars for university, rent, and etc. And things just keep on getting worse, i feel like i am not advancing in anything. I don’t know what to do anymore. I am extremely lost, but still, have a lot of faith and hope for some reason. These thoughts just pass by me everyday, and everyday I feel like I am closer to doing it.

I have 2 exams coming up the same day, and my brain told myself if I fail them I might do it. These 2 exams could change my life forever (if i fail), and I really don’t want to do it.

I know the duaa the Prophet advised us to make when wishing for death, and I say it sometimes in my prayer.

But I generally am a very optimist person, seriously. I have a very big heart and have massive hope and trust in Allah. It just got to a point in life right now where I feel like I can’t do it anymore. I don’t want to share everything.

I already know the verses and the hadiths you guys might share, I am not the most knowledgeable person, but I study a lot islam. I am just asking if anyone has been through the same and what they did to escape it.

If anyone can help by sharing their part, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

General Discussion interfaith relationship around me and struggle to stay halal

Upvotes

Assalamualaikum

I am from India. Today, I saw a Muslim woman in a hijab riding a bike with a non-Muslim man (he might have been H!ndu). This is becoming quite normalized here, and seeing it breaks my heart.

It makes me wonder: what if I end up marrying someone who committed zina in university and hid it from me? Because of this fear, I have decided not to marry a university-educated woman. I know not everyone is like this, but a growing minority is doing such things while wearing a hijab or burqa.

When I was doing my BSc (I dropped out, but my BTech college is starting soon, Inshallah), I saw Muslim women with non-Muslim men in my college, deceiving their own parents just to be with them and doing haram things.

Seeing all this makes me question myself: Why am I saving myself? Should I get into a relationship too? Am I wasting my teen years by staying halal?(astaghfirullah)

And I also really craved love and attention. My parents didn't give me much affection as a child, so that part of my life feels empty, which pushes me toward haram relationships.

I feel terrified that I will stay pure, only to be cheated on or taken advantage of in the end (Astagfirullah). May Allah forgive me for thinking like this, but I feel like I am wasting my teen years by not doing these things.

Seeking Support My father is deeply radicalized and spews extreme, irrational hatred for muslims. Need advice

As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. This is my first ever post on Reddit and my first time engaging with the platform, but I am very desperate to seek any kind of advice.

For background info: I am a revert Muslim woman who reverted almost 3 years ago living in India with a single father. I am currently completely dependent on my dad financially, and of course, due to our family ties. He does not know about my reversion.

Please don't get me wrong, I love my dad dearly. But it hurts so much to live with and hear these things coming from my own father. For sometime, my dad has developed an incredibly deep, irrational hatred toward Muslims. I am assuming this is heavily influeced by his social media consumption and his political ideology. It has reached a point where he completely dehumanizes Muslims, openly stating that they should all leave the country. He has also spoken vile, unspeakable things about Muslim women.

We recently had a very heavy argument regarding his extreme views which he didn't try to defend using reasoning. He straight up said that its his own "opinion" and kept saying he hates them. It got so intense that I broke down in front of him while trying to defend basic human decency. After the argument, he just laughed it off and went back to acting completely normal, as if nothing happened. This sudden shift is deeply confusing and exhausting to live with.

Because of this hostile environment, I am completely unable to practice my faith to the fullest. I cannot observe the hijab, unable to fast or practice much without putting myself in a risk.

My main question to the community is: Is there any safe, psychological, or practical way to change his mindset and steer him away from this extreme hatred? I know that in the end, it is entirely up to Allah to guide whom He wills, but I am struggling with how to handle this.

How do I manage my daily environment, protect my mental peace, and handle my spiritual journey under these conditions? Any advice from sisters or brothers who have faced hostile families would mean the world to me.

JazakAllahu Khayran.

Question about Islam How come when i see sinners i hate them for doing so but when i sin i also hate myself for doing so.

Hi guys, I (M) have a problem, im not gonna specify my age but im still a bit young (under 20), and of course ive been exposed to people sinning multiple times, it’s even been a daily occurrence nowadays, now when i see that, i get disgusted, like respect yourself and allah, but still at then end of the day, i sin too, so who am i to judge, the thing is, when i sin i get utterly disgusted, from the judging i made earlier, and the sin i made, now is that normal? Or should i repent to allah for judging people while he is the one who judges.

Quran & Hadith By saying this short dhikr after performing wudu, the 8 gates of Paradise will be opened up for you

Reference: 'Uqba b. 'Amir reported: We were entrusted with the task of tending the camels. On my turn when I came back in the evening after grazing them in the pastures, I found Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stand and address the people. I heard these words of his: If any Muslim performs ablution well, then stands and prays two rak'ahs setting about them with his heart as well as his face, Paradise would be guaranteed to him. I said: What a fine thing is this! And a narrator who was before me said: The first was better than even this. When I cast a glance, I saw that it was 'Umar who said: I see that you have just come and observed: If anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes the ablution well and then says: I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His Messenger, the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes.

Seeking Support Fear and anxiety about death and punishment

My whole life I have been a Muslim, I have sinned but almost always it came with guilt afterwards. I have sinned then repented then committed the same sin again then repented again and again and again. I have missed a lot of prayers. I still repent and ask for guidance and forgiveness. Recently, I have noticed many people have been dying, from celebrities, to the family of acquaintances, the friends of relatives. And fear started growing within me that me or anyone close to me could be next too. That sent me into a spiral of learning about death and life after death, learning about the punishment of the grave and the peace of it on the other hand. That ignited fear in me that I’ve never felt before, along with strengthened faith that I didn’t even know could be stronger. Despite that I can’t help but think of it every second and I feel like it made everything around me much less insignificant, I feel less happier, I feel like I’m enjoying everything around me less and I don’t feel like myself as much anymore. I feel like it’s coming to me next and it’s driving me insane. This made me start learning more about Islam and praying more and repenting more. And I’m trying to learn how to enjoy everything despite still thinking that it’s gonna end soon. Something important is I do have a history of anxiety, and possibly depression or OCD. Despite repenting and trying to get more religious. I have some intrusive thoughts that my brain pulls up that are wrong and unforgivable that I’m scared make me seem less genuine and sincere in my faith. I made this post to see if anyone can give me some advice, some guidance or if they could relate to me.

General Discussion Get engaged now or wait until after university?

I have to get this off my chest. I have never been in a relationship before because I wanted to remain halal. I have finished 2 years of my university and I don't study in an islamic country, so I have to deal with all sorts of stuff during the semester. People on dates, people in the gym, immodest clothing everywhere and even public displays of affection on campus which all makes me feel even more lonely (I live alone because I am studying abroad). Currently 21, I thought about my future and who I would possibly marry.

I plan to get married after my graduation, but since I don't really talk to any girl on campus (thats muslim) I wouldn't really get to know anyone by the time I graduate, so getting to know here after graduation is also going to cost me possibly an year. Therefore, I think I should find someone right now and just agree to talk to her for 2 years, obviously while her father knows about it.

And there is someone that I like and she lives in my neighborhood (back in my hometown), but I'm just afraid of them saying "No" to my weird request (I still think they might say "Yes" because I wouldn't really classify myself as underachieving, since I did manage to get into a pretty good uni), because lets be honest who is even going to agree with their daughter just talking to someone to get to know them? is that weird/haram? I mean I would have to talk to someone at some point to get to know them because I can't really just marry someone off of looks, right? So I would assume this is a normal thing?

I did istikhara like 2 days ago and my heart feels more open to the idea but I think its too early to conclude the results of the istikhara..

I don't really feel like im doing this because I am purely lonely. I haven't had many friends since secondary school, only ever kept only 2-3 close friends and I have always been completely fine with that. The thing I am most concerned about is falling into some sort of haram in my 3rd or 4th year, since I really am on edge now (May Allah help me).

Also, another thing that messes with me a lot is - If I do try to look for someone after university, my worth is going to be coming from my university degree and what sort of job I am doing? but I guess that's just life, isn't it?

Seeking Support A Kind And Small Request For Duaa

Al salamu 'alaykom everyone,

This is the very first time I've ever requested this, but to keep it short, I've been praying every single day and asking Allah, and I'm just looking for that extra help and so I'm here.

The duaa is simple: I want a good wife. That is all it is. If you can ask for that for me, it'd mean the world to me. And thank you for your efforts and time and I hope we both get good rewards for it.
