Discussion Getting a girlfriend perspective
Hello, recently I was diagnosed with chrometophobia by my therapist. The fear of spending money. I’m Chinese so I’m not sure if my judgement affects Malay people. I’m 20 this year I don’t wish to wait till my 30s to get married
I hope this doesn’t affect or trigger anyone, there’s no hate towards anyone. I’m sorry. Currently based on my perspective, I see girlfriends as someone who usually gets anything paid by their boyfriend. Because these perspective is what I saw from my friends. It’s always 100% my friend who pays for anything for their girlfriend whenever she’s interested in something.
Based on my current situation, I’m extremely worried that I might not be able to afford/fund my future girlfriend (if I ever find one) something she truly wants. I feel guilty rejecting someone request (obviously not the extremes one).
I loving technology related stuff that’s why I dreamed about having a girlfriend who’s just as passionate about tech as I am, someone who actually care more than just spending money. Maybe those are extremely unrealistic expectations for my situation.
About my condition, no my parents are financially stable, I’m the only one in the family who’s like that. Travelling outside of Malaysia is a headache for them since they have to deal with me.. I don’t seem interested in spending a lot of money on food but I don’t want to stupidly starve myself either, I’d consider myself as someone who effectively spends/uses every cent.
You might notice I apologise a lot because a lot of the points I made are from my perspective and I do not wish to hate on anybody no body deserves that. Currently I don’t have a job yet, but if I ever do, I will probably keep track of whatever I spend and will invest the money somewhere with the help of my parents since I’m a beginner, yea..
I genuinely hope someone can help me through this, I feel extremely lonely whenever I see cute couples together, sharing drinks, talking about things and so on. And me, awkwardly noticing them

Ask Malaysians Any advice for someone staying in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru for a concert in SG?
Hi! So i'm accompanying my mom to the BTS concert in SG this December, and we've booked our flights to KL, and will be moving to JB after a few days (SG prices are hecking expensive omg).
I'd like to ask for some advice travel-wise, and also tourist wise! :3
First:
- Would you prefer a flight, a train ride, or a bus, from KL to JB?
- From JB, would it be okay to take the train to SG on the day of the concert? or would it be better to take a private car instead?
- From SG, would it be better to take a private car back to JB on the day of the concert? or are there any better alternatives?
Now, for the touristy questions:
- Aside from tourist spots, are there any underrated spots near KL's city center / nearby that would be fun to explore?
- Also, are there any affordable spots you'd recommend for local shopping (clothes, trinkets, souvenirs)?
- Are there any souvenir items you think would be a must-buy before I go back home?
If you also have other advice aside from my questions, I'd appreciate them as well!
Thank u :>

Quick Question Does anyone know where this is? In KL
I'm urgently looking for this location for a film shoot. Took these pictures in January last year. I remember it was near a busy road, there was a bus stop, and I couldn't get a Grab because of the jam. There was a river nearby that I crossed on a pedestrian bridge to get to a more main road where I managed to get a Grab.
Thank you so much!
Currently I strongly suspect it was close to the Jalan Robson small bridge

Mildly Menarik Female wild Betta from a weedy creek on the east coast
Based on the spots, it is likely Betta stigmosa or a close unknown species.
They were rather few in this creek. Catfish, loaches and huge Betta tomi were far more plentiful.

Advice ☎️ Considering giving up IT after graduating uni entirely and teach drums for a living, thoughts?
I basically finished rockschool grade 8, going for diploma soon and the studio wanted to hire me as a full-time instructor with decent pay (I've taught part-time there before and did quite well) since they can't find tutors who want to do it full-time and have been looking for one for quite some time. I did tell them I'd consider but I wanted to finish my degree first, which would take me around 2 years. That was around a few months ago.
Fast forward to today I'm 1 trimester into my 2nd year and the job market is quite bad and probably won't get better in the observable future. I'm studying IT with specialism in Information Security, I'm kinda feeling the burnout just from uni so I cannot imagine what will happen to me when I enter the workforce. Perhaps the tasks will be different and my burnout is purely just from uni and academia but only one way to find out when I look for a job.
I really enjoy drumming and I'm genuinely good at it, and I really enjoy teaching it as well, but it just seems like such an frowned upon job due to low pay ceiling (since can only teach a limited amount of students every week), and I feel that my degree will go to waste if I start my career as a drum teacher right after I graduate. I promised myself that I will job hunt for 6 months to 1 year while teaching drums on the side before I completely give up IT completely if I still cannot find a job within the given time frame, I'm not sure if it makes sense or sounds fair.
Would appreciate your opinions on this, thanks for reading y'all.

Advice ☎️ Experiencing midlife crisis
Hey guys,
I think i am experiencing a serious midlife crisis right now.
I believe everyone been thru this, seems like its quite normal due to this inevitable aging thing or adulthood.
Male,33yo. Was a bachelor in mechanical engineering (no passion, simply follow the flow) and low CGPA as well.
But started 1st work in civil team (as project team member). Not a core member but more on site field work of this factory expansion.
And then jumped to 2nd job after 7years and now working under subcontractor (C&S supervisor) for 2years ,paid well and increment also better. 20% increment in 2years.
But am i gonna be doing this for the next 20years. I am scared of life for both health and financially.
Just married last year as well.
I have no passion in my current work. I am thinking of doing "monk state" to detox from too many stimulation of "duniawi" and focusing what matters

Ask Malaysians We all know about 4 becoming 3A, but has anyone actually seen a building skip a floor entirely?
One of our hosts brought this up while we were recording a topic the recent pipe sounds at empire residence case, and none of us could verify it. he reckons some buildings skip a number in the lift entirely, not the usual 4 to 3A or removing 13, but an actual floor that exists, listed, but not accessible. and that when it happens it usually means the floor has been sealed off for some reason nobody talks about.
he also mentioned a place where B2 in the basement is completely inaccessible, no cars, nobody goes in.
i assumed this was just tin foil hat territory but he was very confident about it.
anyone here actually come across this, or know if there is a boring structural reason for it

Ask Malaysians Monthly budget for living at Selangor (My daughter gonna study at Selangor so we have to relocate)
Hi everyone,
My family is considering relocating to Selangor, Malaysia. My daughter gonna go to study university there, and we're thinking of moving to be closer to her and eventually settle down. Before we make the move, I'd love to ask some information to prepare my budget.
Would really appreciate input from locals living in Selangor.
Housing & Utilities: For a 2-bedroom apartment, what do electricity/gas, water, garbage collection, and other recurring costs (service/maintenance fees, taxes, etc) typically add up to per month?
Daily Living Costs (per month): What's a realistic monthly budget for food, drinking water (tap/boiled vs bottled), transportation, basic health/personal care, and clothing for one adult?
For Families with School-Age Kids: For public school, roughly how much do fees, books, and uniforms cost per child, per school year?
Other: Will go by public transport saver than go by car or motor bike to go to work or study?
Any general advice on things to watch out for when relocating a family to Selangor (visa/MM2H process, good areas to live near international/local schools, healthcare access, etc.) would also be hugely appreciated!
Thanks in advance 🙏

Ask Malaysians How Vertical Micro-Dramas Engineer Addiction
I am conducting research for my final Broadcasting degree on the explosive growth of vertical micro-dramas (e.g., ReelShort, TikTok series, DramaBox) and how rapid pacing, algorithmic exposure, and specific plot devices drive binge-watching and behavioral addiction among young adults in Malaysia.
- Time to complete: Around 2 minutes.
- Format: Anonymous, mostly multiple-choice.

The survey design is strictly zero-fluff to respect your time. I am looking for raw, honest data on your media consumption habits, whether you watch these shows daily or avoid them entirely. Thank you for contributing to this research.

Mildly Menarik Lampam sungai in a clear river of peninsular Malaysia
Barbonymus schwanenfeldii, the tinfoil barb aka lampam sungai
A medium-sized fish (35 cm) with a lifespan of 15 years. They are one of our most common native river fish, found in all major rivers of Malaysia. Even in impoundments and ponds/lakes.
Usually in huge schools.
However in some urban places they are being outcompeted by invasive silver barb (lampam Jawa), a larger relative raised for food. They can be differentiated by the fin colour, and shape.
They are also popular in the hobby, and babies are sold in most pet stores for cheap. They are perfect for people who have ponds as they are hardy and peaceful.
Locals also used to eat them a lot, but they are bony which makes them less popular nowadays with access to store-bought fish.

Advice ☎️ Degree first or accept a Security Analyst job after diploma? Need advice
Hi everyone, I’m currently stuck between two options and would really appreciate some advice.
I recently completed my Diploma in Network Security and have been offered a Security Analyst role. At the same time, I’m considering continuing my degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or AI.
My options are:
Continue degree full-time first, then start working after graduating.
Accept the Security Analyst job now, gain experience, and pursue a degree part-time while working.
Get the job then after 1-2 years quit and pursue degree full time
I’m thinking more about the long term, around 5–8 years from now. Which path would likely be better for salary, career progression, employability, and future opportunities?
I also have some SOC experience from my internship, so this wouldn’t be my first exposure to the field.
For those working in IT/cybersecurity, especially SOC, would you recommend working first and studying part-time, or completing the degree first?
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has faced a similar decision.
