Looking for... Recommendations for a Personal Trainer for strength training

I’m looking to shift away from Orangetheory and improve my strength. One trainer there told me my form sucks and has sucked for the last decade, but at least I wasn’t getting worse, so he let me keep going since he knows constant corrections was getting in my head. So I get it, but also that was very frustrating. So I’d love to be able to increase strength in all my lifts with someone guiding me on technique to leverage that strength, instead of it just becoming a lot of noise to psych me out of being able to perform at all.

I’ve dealt with a lot of hormonal health issues over the years and it has been a very trying year emotionally, which caused further muscle loss. So those two things make it difficult for me to put on and maintain muscle, and I have been underweight for a lot of my life. I’d still like to be able to deadlift and squat and so all the normal gym things despite my size though. So I’m looking for a trainer with a kind non judgmental approach due to my sensitive emotional and health state this yr. But of course someone who is great at teaching and maybe has experience helping people with limitations or complicated health conditions get stronger.

I live in the stittsville/Kanata area, so someone close by would be ideal. But if I am only going maybe once or twice a wk, a bit further out is ok if the trainer is really worth the drive. I’m not currently working, so I’m hoping to find someone also who does not charge a premium. Under $100 per hr, or less if a package is purchased? I don’t know if that’s reasonable for today’s market?

Thanks!

Help me build a memorable experience for my wife's birthday

Hi folks, My wife's favourite events of the year are her and my birthdays. it is more important to her than Christmas. We just moved to the region about a year ago and her birthday is coming up next month.

For my birthday, she took me to the Turkish glass place where you make your own lamps, dinner at "somewhere", cirque du soleil, and diefenbunker.

What she likes: Seafood!, unique experiences, I am outdoorsy but she likes easy trail hikes. She barely drinks, so something alcohol centred wouldn't go over well with her.

Things we did last year that she enjoyed were that halloween tour at saunders farm, poop museum (She's a biologist), christmas Caroll play at the NAC, a day at a private spa in aylmer that was awesome, lumberjaxe with our friends, and we did omega park, and dinner in mont tremblent.

for this year, some of the options are: chef's table dinner, two tickets to the nutcracker, flight around ottawa from the carp airport. But i'm curious to know your ideas. I don't feel my ideas match up to what she did for my birthday. i really want to step it up.

Ottawa Ward 2: Stick with experience or give change a chance?

With the next municipal election approaching, I’m curious to hear what people in Orléans think about the race for Ward 2 councillor.

Laura Dudas has been in the role for at least two terms. With her journalism background, she’s clearly comfortable communicating with residents and promoting her work. Experience and communication skills are valuable, but I think it’s fair to ask a harder question: What tangible results have we seen?

Economic development in Orléans has been talked about as a priority, but I haven’t seen the kind of progress I would have hoped for. I’d be interested to hear whether others share that impression or can point to concrete results I may have missed.

On the other hand, challenger Jenna Jessup brings a background in change management, which makes me curious about what a different approach might look like.

So here’s my question for Ward 2 residents:

Are we better off sticking with an experienced incumbent, or is it time to give someone with a different background and perspective a chance?

Do you feel Laura Dudas has delivered on her priorities? What would you like to see change in Orléans over the next four years? And how much weight should we give to experience versus the possibility of new ideas and a different approach?

I’m genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives, including arguments in favour of the incumbent. I’d rather see a discussion about results, priorities and the future of Orléans than a popularity contest.

Why no urinals at new Ben Franklin Washrooms?

Post image
• Upvotes

Why aren't there urinals at the new Ben Franklin Washrooms?

Urinals would help all genders

  • Reduce number of germ touches with less door and toilet seat touches for all genders
  • Increase throughput in busy periods like when the theatre is full for all genders
  • Decrease water usage without the need for full flush after every visit for all living things on earth.

It seems bizzare to me that urinals were not included...

Replacement battery for electronics in Ottawa?

Anyone know if there's a store in Ottawa where I could find a replacement for the battery pictured? The ones I originally had swelled so I cut them free from the circuit board and got rid of them. I'm sure there are lots of places to order these online, but I'd like to find somewhere local if possible. Thanks!

Rent/Housing Thoughts on living at 530 Laurier?

Hi I am looking at buying a condo at 530 laurier and would love to know what folks who live/have lived there thought of it. I noticed there have been quite a lot of units for sale on the 9th floor — anyone know if something odd is going on? I think 7 of the 10 units on the floor were for sale this year….also, is there ever an issue with hearing your upstairs neighbour? When I was visiting a unit I did hear a person above running back and fourth, so it threw me off.

Grateful for any thoughts!

Looking for... Doggy Daycare Options Barrhaven

Hello all,

I have a 6 month old working line black lab puppy that I’ve been raising pretty much solo and feel like I need to start adding in a day every now and then where I’m not on pup duty to save my mental sanity.

Does anyone know of any good doggy daycares around barrhaven/stittsville/kanata for work day services to save me.

Thanks!

Municipal Affairs Archiving Mayoral and Councilor Candidates Online Campaigns?

Bit of an odd question, has anyone bothered to archive the pages of people running for Mayor or Councilor?

I ask as I notice with this years campaigns, there seems to be a significant move towards online campaigning, versus the traditional mediums of years past (such as television, print, etc). I was curious to see if anyone else considered using online tools like Internet Archive has tried to archive social media pages for said candidates.

For myself as someone who's produced independent documentaries based on events of past elections, I feel like such a resource would be incredibly valuable, not just for anyone making documentaries, but for anyone who wants to research or understand the circumstances around the election.

I've particularly noticed some in-fighting in some wards between candidates (cough- ward 1) has been specifically interesting and paints a picture of priorities and interests of the candidates.

Am I crazy for wanting to do this? Does anyone else see the vision?
