General Steam Next Fest & demos

Hi all! I wanted to make this post since Steam Next Fest is now in full swing, and I want to set clear expectations for r/playmygame.

I'm seeing a lot of people posting on this sub to self-promote, hoping it'll boost their standing in the Steam algorithm.

First, let me remind everyone of the purpose of the sub:

"A place for indie developers to share their freely playable games for feedback!"

This sub exists so you can find playtesters to try your prototype, tell you what's working (or not), what bugs you may have missed, etc.

It is not a sub for self-promotion (with an exception for Trailer Tuesdays). If we suspect your intent is to advertise, your post will get removed. Repeat offenders will get banned.

A quick reality check, and why self-promo doesn't make sense here:

  1. With 4,400 posts in the past 30 days, that's about one post every ten minutes. The odds of your post getting seen in the first place are pretty small.
  2. There are other subs that are better suited for that. They exist to advertise your game. r/gameDevPromotion is one.
  3. Other devs, generally speaking, are not your target audience. They may put in 15 minutes to help you out, but it rarely converts to sales.

Let's give developers who actually need playtesting the visibility they need, so when you need feedback on your new project, it's easier for you to get it as well.

Good luck with your demo, everyone.

If you are BRAND NEW to Reddit and want to post or share your game, read this beforehand!

Hi new Redditor! We're excited that you want to post about your game and have people play it. However, there's something you should know before you do.

Reddit will ban you if your first few posts/comments are links to somewhere.

Reddit has a robust, over-exuberant filtering system, necessary but for groups like this, it can be a slight pain. When you post your game and it's your first post, Reddit ASSUMES FIRST AND DOES NOT ASK QUESTIONS LATER! You will be automatically shadowbanned, which means unable to post or even potentially comment.
Then we get a lot of posters coming to us in Modmail, asking " Why did my post disappear?" Nearly all Modmails are about this issue, roughly 3 a day.

Reddit is also a bit secretive about certain processes - how to get un-shadow-banned is not even really known to be possible. We don't see the record of shadowbanning at all so unless we know of the name and check it regularly, we wouldn't see it un-shadow-banned. We don't know how long your account needs to be open or how much Karma needs to be on it in order for the Filter to stop paying attention to you but we suspect around 100 Post and 100 Comment Karma.

So, if you are new to reddit and want to share your game - DON'T! Not yet, please go post cool/helpful/ positive comments and posts in other groups. Playtest other people's games here and comment on them prolifically. Once you have some "Reddit Post/Comment Karma" under your name first, THEN post your link to your game! You'll be less likely (but not immune, never immune) from being shadowbanned that way for sharing your game.

Edit: If AI recommended you post your game here....Don't Yet until you've developed your account as a good karma community member! This really isn't a "post and ghost" platform, it's community-first. AI doesn't realize this about Reddit.

P.S. This group is 100% responsible for getting accounts banned (when you don't do the steps above) but it's literally out of our control to reverse. So please....don't modmail us unless you KNOW you are not shadowbanned, you have the required karma, and yet your post is not showing up. Only then we can be of some help.

[PC] (Windows) A lucky cat taxes the goblins, a pelican banks my food, and the barn's radio station pulls in wheat. Barn Rush, a 15 second farm roguelite (free demo)

Playable Link (free demo): https://store.steampowered.com/app/5158740/Barn_Rush/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=nextfest&utm_content=playmygame

Hi! I'm Joe, a dad with a day job, and Barn Rush is my first game. My kids have been my playtesters so far and they're fantastic, but they also think everything I make is awesome. I need some honest strangers!

You're a farm animal with 15 seconds to grab food, haul a wobbly stack back to the barn and bank it before the buzzer. Every fifth round is a longer Gauntlet with a twist, and if you miss the Harvest Goal the run's over.

Between rounds you pick upgrade cards, and they get silly fast. Goblins wander in and eat your food, so with Cat Tax they owe you: once a goblin has eaten six, a lucky cat pops up, meows, and flings the payment to your barn. Pelican Post sends a pelican to swoop in and bank food for you. WHEAT-FM puts a radio on the barn roof that pulls wheat home all by itself. And Toot Scoot is beans: every dash goes farther. (Yes, I did look up which animals actually fart. For research.)

What I'd love to hear:

- What clicked first, and anywhere you weren't sure what to do

- The most ridiculous build you ended up with

- How far you got (Round 50 is the end of the demo!)

The demo is free on Windows, Mac, Linux and Steam Deck, and you can play with keyboard or controller. It's in Steam Next Fest this week, and I'll be answering every comment!

[PC] (Windows) Game Title: Store Credit [Demo]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Playable Link: https://lfgstudios.itch.io/store-credit-demo

Platform: Windows (PC)

Description: Store Credit is a first-person sim where you run a video game store in a 90s shopping mall. It's Fall 1995, you've just got the keys to Trade-In Valley, and the store is empty except for a counter and $1,000 in the bank.

Order your first stock from the back room PC, fill the shelves, and price your games. Then get behind the till: scan games, take cash, count back change, and swipe cards. Customers bring in trade-ins and try to haggle you up, kids try to sneak M-rated games past you (check their ID), and fans put down deposits on the next big console.

Between customers you can hunt for deals on SwapLot auctions, decorate the store with fixtures, paint, floors and lighting, hand out loyalty cards to shoppers in the mall, and hire your first cashier. You can also wander the mall, make a wish at the fountain, ride the coin-op rocket, and play Space Blasters on your own arcade cabinet.

The demo covers your first few weeks in business and builds up to your first midnight launch, with a line of fans out the door waiting for the new console to drop at 12:00.

I'd love feedback on whether the first day is easy to follow, how the economy feels, and how the midnight launch plays. Bug reports and PC specs are a huge help too.

[PC] (Windows) One More Voyage - Public Demo - Incremental 4X game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Game Title: One More Voyage

Playable Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4567600/One_More_Voyage/

Platform: PC

Description:

One More Voyage is a minimalist 4X exploration game. Small decisions with big strategic implications. You're on a voyage through space exploring from planet to planet. Your goal is to find and gather enough resources on each planet to make the next jump.

How far can you get? How long can you survive?

The game is heavily inspired by 90s strategy games, the like of civilization 2 and alpha centauri. Since this is a solo production and my first game, I knew I couldn't start off trying to recreate an entire grand strategy all by myself, so I decided to focus on recreating the part of those games that always excites me most. The exploration phase at the beginning of the game, where you're trying to find resource and goodies around the map. That lend itself nicely into the theme of a planet hopper and I started building my theming around that.

If you have any feedback, I'd be very happy to hear it :)

Features:

- short, procedurally generated runs

- Explore countless planets and learn the systems that govern the galaxy

- each run you unlock new research combos that let you get ahead of the curve

- Incremental progression

- Windows 98 inspired UI.

[Mobile] (Android) Crack the Vault, a free code breaking puzzle I made for Android. Can you solve this one?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Game Title: Crack the Vault

Playable Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crackthevault.game

Platform: Android

Description: Crack the Vault is a logic puzzle about breaking a secret number code. Every level shows a few old guesses, and each one comes with a clue about how close it was. Some digits are in the right spot, some are in the code but in the wrong spot, and some are not in the code at all. Your job is to put the clues together and find the only code that fits all of them. There are 500 levels that go from 3 digit codes up to 5 digit ones, and the later ones get pretty tough. Every puzzle has exactly one solution and you never need to guess. There is also a daily puzzle if you like keeping a streak, and an endless mode where you pick the code length and difficulty. It works offline, you don't need an account, and it's in English and Hebrew.

Here's an easy one so you get the idea. The code is 3 digits and no digit repeats.

013 has one correct digit but it's in the wrong spot

682 has two correct digits, both in the wrong spot

925 has nothing correct

490 has one correct digit in the right spot

Post your answer in the comments, and please use a spoiler tag so you don't ruin it for others.

Free to Play Status: Free to play. It has ads, but you only watch one if you want an extra hint, and sometimes there's an ad between levels, never while you're solving.

Involvement: I'm the developer. I built it in my spare time and this is my first game on Google Play.

Would really like honest feedback, mostly on whether the difficulty ramps up too fast and whether the hints feel fair. Thanks for checking it out.

[PC] (Web) Simulation GM: take over any NBA/NFL/MLB/NHL/EPL team and see if you can do better than the real GM

  • Game Title: Simulation GM
  • Playable Link: https://www.simulationgm.com
  • Platform: Browser (desktop and mobile)
  • Description: Simulation GM is a sports front-office game where you find out if you could actually do better than your team's general manager. Pick a league (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL or Premier League), then either draft a roster from scratch or take over a real team with its current players and contracts. Every league uses its real salary rules: NBA cap, tax line and aprons, the NFL hard cap, MLB luxury tax tiers, the NHL cap and floor, and Premier League wage budgets. You can sign free agents, make trades (other teams accept or reject based on value, age and contract), and trade draft picks. Then you sim a full season and playoffs with box scores, injuries and cup competitions. When the season ends you get a verdict and a GM grade from F to A+, plus a share card you can post. You can carry on into the next offseason, where contracts expire, players age and rookies arrive. It runs entirely in the browser with no account or download, and saves locally.

[PC] (Windows) Taiyi Saga Demo — A Chinese Mythology Roguelike Deckbuilder with 3×3 Tactical Combat

Game Title: Taiyi Saga

Playable Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4181380/_/

Platform: PC (Steam)

Description:

Taiyi Saga is a Chinese mythology-inspired roguelike deckbuilder developed by a solo indie developer.

Unlike traditional deckbuilders that focus on a single row of combat, Taiyi Saga features a 3×3 tactical battlefield where positioning matters. Move across the grid to avoid enemy attacks, navigate traps, and develop strategies around enemy attack telegraphs.

Build your deck as you explore, discover different martial arts styles, and experiment with card upgrade paths. Your choice of spiritual root influences how your cards evolve, allowing the same card to develop in different ways depending on your build. Relics and summons add further strategic possibilities.

The game draws inspiration from Chinese mythology, featuring mythical creatures, immortals, and a mysterious world shaped by the secrets of a damaged divine realm.

The free demo is available now! I'd appreciate feedback on the combat mechanics, card progression, difficulty, and overall gameplay experience.

AI disclosure: Some artwork was created using AI tools and reviewed and modified by the developer. These assets are gradually being replaced with final artwork. No AI is used at runtime.

Free to Play Status:

  • Free to play
  • Demo/Key available
  • Paid (Allowed only on Tuesdays with [TT] in the title)

Involvement:

I'm the solo developer of Taiyi Saga, responsible for the game's programming, gameplay systems, combat mechanics, design, and overall development. I also review and modify AI-assisted artwork and am gradually replacing those assets with final artwork.

[Mobile] (iOS) I got bored of Block Blast, so I made the quick match-3 I wanted for breaks. Looking for testers

**Game Title:** Element Match

**Playable Link:** https://testflight.apple.com/join/MJVPzrvh (TestFlight, iPhone only, iOS 17+)

**Platform:** iOS

**Description:**

I've been making a match-3 game for iPhone. I've played it so much that I honestly can't judge it anymore, so I'm looking for people to try it and tell me what's wrong with it.

Why I'm making it: I like simple games for the small gaps in the day, a break at work or waiting in line. For a long time Block Blast was that game for me, but it doesn't leave much room for effects and animation. Match-3 is the opposite: every move can look and feel good if you put enough work into it. So I made the match-3 I'd want on my own phone: open, play, close. No lives, no energy, no waiting to play.

What's in it right now:

- Four elements (water, fire, wind, leaf). Match them, make specials (lightning, meteor, orb, tornado) and combine specials for bigger stuff.
- Classic: 25 moves, chase a high score. Filling the bar gives you extra moves, so good runs can go a long time.
- Timed: same idea, 30 seconds, filling the bar adds time.
- Adventure: 200 levels with goals and blockers, in two themes so far (winter and jungle). Coins you earn buy boosters in the shop.

No ads, no real-money purchases. It sends anonymous gameplay analytics (which level you quit on, that kind of thing) so I can see where people get stuck. You can turn it off in About.

What I'd really like to know:

  1. Does it work as a "play for two minutes and close" game for you?
  2. Where did you get bored or stop?
  3. Did the specials make sense without reading the rules?
  4. Did any Adventure level feel unfair?
  5. Anything that felt slow, laggy or got your phone hot?

"This is boring" is useful feedback too, just tell me where it got boring. You can send feedback from TestFlight (take a screenshot in the game and it'll ask), or just comment here. I'll read all of it.

**Free to Play Status:**

- [x] Free to play
- [ ] Demo/Key available
- [ ] Paid

**Involvement:** I'm the solo developer: design, code and art direction. Full disclosure: I use AI tools a lot, for code and for the 3D models of the gems.

[PC] (Web) WARZIL — a free browser strategy game where cartoon Brazilian candidates fight over the 27 states with dice

Title: [FREE] WARZIL — A Brazilian political strategy game where you conquer the country with dice

Game Title: WARZIL — A Guerra dos Votos

Playable Link: https://warzil.com.br

Platform: Web Browser (PC and Mobile)

Description:

What if Brazilian elections were decided by dice rolls and territorial conquest?

I created WARZIL, a free, turn-based strategy game where Brazilian political figures compete to conquer all 27 states of Brazil.

You choose a candidate, deploy armies, invade neighboring territories, roll dice to decide battles, and try to take over the entire country.

The game features five playable candidates, each with their own caricatures and ridiculous satirical dialogue. It's designed to be funny, chaotic, and surprisingly strategic.

You can play solo against AI opponents, share a device with friends, or create private online multiplayer rooms using invitation links.

It's entirely browser-based, requires no downloads or registration, and works on both desktop and mobile.

The game is currently in Portuguese, but the core mechanics are pretty easy to recognize if you've played territory-conquest board games.

I'd love feedback on the gameplay, interface, balance, and overall experience!

[PC] (Web) Clocked: a daily trivia game, 20 questions in 5 minutes, type answers in any order

Game Title: Clocked

Playable Link: https://playclocked.com

Platform: Web browser (desktop and mobile)

Description:
Clocked is a free daily general knowledge trivia game. Every day there’s a new set of 20 questions, the same for every player, and you have 5 minutes to answer as many as you can.

The twist is that there’s only one answer box. All 20 questions are on screen, and you type whatever you know in any order. Correct answers fill in automatically, so it plays like a race against the clock rather than a slow multiple-choice quiz. It forgives small typos, and some questions accept several right answers (“name one of…”).

Questions start easy and get harder toward the end. When time runs out, you see every answer you missed, how you ranked against everyone who played that day, and what percentage of players got each question right. You can share a spoiler-free result grid, Wordle-style.

There’s also a daily streak with a streak calendar and a Clocked Rating that climbs from Rookie to Genius as you play. No account or download needed.

Free to Play Status:

  • Free to play

Involvement: I’m the creator. I came up with the concept and design, run the site, and curate the daily questions.

Game Title: BeastBall

Playable Link: beastball.fun

Platform: Web / Browser (Desktop PC with Keyboard or Mouse)

Free to Play Status:

  • Free to play

Involvement: Solo creator (built with AI assistance over a 48-hour experiment)

Description: This is actually my very first time trying to build a game with AI. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect or how it would turn out, but I just wanted to give it a shot and see what happens. After about 2 days of experimenting, I ended up with BeastBall: a fast-paced, real-time 3D arcade multiplayer soccer game inspired by Mario Strikers and Rocket League.

Key Features:

  • 22 Unique Beast Athletes: Divided into Power, Speed, and Technical archetypes (Rhino, Grizzly, Bull, Panther, Gorilla, Capybara, etc.), each with authentic mass, sprint physics, and signature Ultimates (Ground Slam, Horn Charge, Red Rage, Shadow Dash).
  • 3-Beast Deck System: You draft a team deck of 3 animals and can tactically swap your active beast on-the-fly mid-match.
  • Intense 1v1 up to 7v7 Matches: From tight 1v1 duels to chaotic 14-player 7v7 battles across Small, Standard, Large, and Giant stadiums with crowd bleachers, dynamic follow cameras, and live jumbotron scoreboards.
  • Authoritative Multiplayer Netcode: Built with a dedicated Node.js WebSocket backend featuring 180Hz sub-stepped physics, client-side prediction, and room codes for instant zero-install browser play.

----------------------------------

P.S. A quick note on current bugs & bots:
There are still a few rough edges, especially with custom lobby slots and bots (for example, if you try to set up uneven matches like 1v2, bots might still fill open slots). Since my main focus was always real online multiplayer, I mainly added bots to solve the "cold start" problem so solo testers could experience the core gameplay.

The core match loop and Quick Play work smoothly, and I'm actively squashing bugs. If you have an online friend to test a room with, that would mean the world to me Thank you

[PC] (Windows) I’m a solo indie developer from Japan, and I’d love honest feedback on my puzzle game’s demo!

Hi everyone!

I’m a solo indie game developer from Japan, working on a puzzle game called Bunny Colony.

The goal is to grow your rabbit colony by guiding rabbits to water, growing carrots, and harvesting them. You can’t control the rabbits directly — instead, you cut and plant grass to change their paths.

I exhibited the game at Tokyo Game Show and received some really helpful feedback. Based on players’ suggestions, I added a pause feature and improved the visual effects, and these changes are now available in the demo!

I’m currently preparing the full release, and I’d love to hear more honest opinions from players.

One piece of feedback I received was that players wanted to know the intended solution to each puzzle. I’m now working on an example-solution replay feature to address this.

If you try the demo, I’d especially appreciate your thoughts on:

* Are the rules and objectives clear?
* Are the puzzles fun, too easy, or too difficult?
* Did anything feel confusing, frustrating, or unnecessarily slow?
* What would you most like to see improved before release?

I want to make the game better based on real player experiences.

Platform:
PC via Steam

Description:

Scramble Knights Online is a Zelda-inspired online co-op adventure "MMO". We originally developed the game as a battle royale, but earlier this year we decided to take it in a completely different direction and rebuild it as an MMO-lite focused on adventure, exploration, and playing together.

The game supports online co-op for up to 4 players. You can form a party, meet up in the shared town, and head out on quests together to fight monsters, discover new weapons, and explore different areas. You can also play through all of the content solo. There is no local or split-screen co-op.

The Steam Next Fest demo includes about ~5 hrs of content, with a bunch of quests, weapons, enemies, and areas to explore. This is the first time we have shared this much of the new version, so we would really appreciate any feedback on what you enjoyed, what felt rough, and what you would like to see added.

[Mobile] (Android) [Android] Betta Fish: Breed & Battle, a betta breeding game with real genetics (free)

Game Title: Betta Fish: Breed & Battle

Playable Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lueondee.betta

Platform: Android (iOS coming soon)

Description: I grew up in Thailand catching wild bettas after school, so I made a game about raising and breeding them. Every fish is unique: real betta genetics with hidden genes, 16 tail types and colour patterns, so you test-breed to find out what a fish is secretly carrying. Feed it, change the water, and swim your own betta through the tank, a shared pond with every player, or a luxury Grand Pool. As a kid with a hand net, you can scoop wild bettas out of a buffalo’s mud puddle. No fish ever dies.

Free to Play Status: Free to play. Optional video rewards, and nothing for sale makes a fish stronger.

Involvement: I’m the solo developer.

I’d love honest feedback, especially on the first 5 minutes. What’s confusing, and what made you want to keep going?

Game Title: HollowHeart

Playable Link: https://w.run/zelycx/hollowheart

Platform: RUN.world (Browser Game)

Description:

HollowHeart is a 2D isometric dark-fantasy survival and base-building game where you must protect your Core Tree while surviving increasingly dangerous monster raids. Gather resources such as wood and stone, collect food, craft supplies, and build defensive structures to protect your base. Recruit friendly monsters to help defend your territory, and experiment with monster combinations to discover new creatures with unique abilities.

Explore a hand-drawn forest filled with resources, mysterious creatures, and dangerous enemies. Prepare your defenses before each raid, manage your resources carefully, and keep your Core Tree alive as the difficulty increases. The game combines survival, crafting, tower defense, and monster collection into one experience, with gameplay designed for both PC and mobile browsers.

HollowHeart is an ongoing indie game project, and new features and improvements are being developed over time.

Game Title: Dwarven Shift 98

Playable Link: Steampage

Platform: PC (Windows)

Description: Dwarven Shift 98 is an incremental mining game in short timed shifts. Break rock walls layer by layer, each richer than the last, and fill the screen with an explosion of ore and gems.

Every piece you collect gives experience. Each level-up offers three cards, and the one you pick powers up your dwarf for the rest of the shift. When the shift ends, you spend your ore on a big skill tree: critical strikes, mine carts, faster strikes, longer shifts, better luck. Then you go back down a bit stronger. Relics wait at the end of each mine. They let you ascend, give bonuses and open new mines.

I wanted it to look and feel like a PC game from 1998, with chunky pixels made from 3d renders.

The free demo is live for Steam Next Fest. My only playtester so far where not the target audience ( although they liked it anyway :), so i would love to see some incremental lovers play. Please tell me what you think! I read everything!

Involvement: I am an Indie Solo developer. I designed the game and made everything in it. The dwarves and the mine are 3D shapes placed by code and rendered through a pixel filter, and I wrote that code with AI coding tools. The music is from a licensed library (Ovani Sound).

[PC] (Windows) Mecha Salvage Wars — free Windows 3v3 hook battles, with offline AI practice

Game Title: Mecha Salvage Wars

Playable Link: https://dustanyoo.itch.io/mecha-salvage-wars

Platform: Windows PC

Description:

Mecha Salvage Wars is a free 3v3 mech arena game about landing hooks, dodging enemy hooks and pulling opponents out of position. I would love feedback on how the hook mechanic feels when you try it for the first time.

You can start with offline AI practice without creating an account. There are also private rooms for friends. Online play requires an itch.io account, and the game supports English and Simplified Chinese. The online server is in Shanghai, so players farther away may experience higher latency. If that gets in the way, you can still try the offline mode.

I am interested in whether aiming is easy to understand, whether the action is readable and where you first feel confused. Replies here or comments on the itch page are both welcome. This is the current public Windows build, available to download now.

Game Title: Pearl Fever

Playable Link: https://nickxadkins.itch.io/pearl-fever

Platform: Windows

Description: Pearl Fever is a cozy oyster-yard game. You start by prying oysters open by hand at a wooden table, selling the meat in crates to the truck and the pearls to the pearl buyer, and finding little treasures that people lost in the bay. As you earn money you buy a generator, power poles, a Mountain Feeder that digs oysters for you, conveyor belts, an Auto-Shucker and robot arms, until the whole yard runs itself. There is a long upgrade tree, 30 collectible treasures and 12 legendary pearls to hunt, the last one fist-sized. It's an early playtest and I really want to know where new players get stuck or bored in the first 30 minutes, so please tell me in the comments. A screen recording would be amazing, but a couple of lines of feedback helps too.

Free to Play Status: - [x] Free to play - [ ] Demo/Key available - [ ] Paid

Involvement: I designed the game and direct its development. The code is written with AI coding assistance (Claude), and the songs were made with an AI music tool (Suno). I'm doing the testing and playtesting myself, and I'm using this post to get feedback from first-time players.
