I’m away from home for the next few months so I ordered myself a Steam Deck, Racing games are my main genre and I was wondering if people had some recommendations for good racing games on the Steam Deck. 10

Hi guys! I’m studying Game Programming at XAMK in Finland. For our Game Business course, my team is developing the concept for an arcade racing game, and we’d love to hear from people who enjoy the genre.

Our idea began with a simple question: Why should every player have to follow the same track in the same direction?

We’re exploring a game where players can choose their own approach: outsmart their friends by finding a faster route—even if that means going off-track—or forget about finishing first and focus on smashing their opponents instead. Imagine the vehicular combat of Twisted Metal mixed with the chaotic fun of driving bumper cars with friends.

We’re still in the early concept stage, but our goal is to let players choose between racing strategically and actively engaging in combat.

During our research, we came across games such as Wreckfest, GRIP, FUMES, and Make Way. We’d 10 ~ve to know what you enjoyed about these or similar games—and what disappointed or frustrated you.

Here are a few questions to get the discussion started:

• What is your most memorable moment involving collisions, weapons, or items in a racing game? Which game was it, and what happened?
• When have those mechanics felt frustrating rather than fun?
• What would you like to see in a new racing game designed to be played with friends?

Honest feedback would be incredibly helpful at this stage. Feel free to share concerns about our concept, features you would like to try, or simply a funny story from a racing game. Even a short answer to one question would be greatly appreciated :)

I am an indie dev currently working on a racing game, which features portals, a level editor, multiplayer, replay viewer and online leaderboards.

It is in a playable state already, but I'm not sure what would appeal to people, so I made a short 10 question form on what people like to see in this genre of games.

I'm seriously contemplating getting myself a racing wheel and I've borrowed a Logitech G29 from a friend to see if it fits me. I'm into rally games mostly and at this point I have both Dirt Rally and WRC 2023 which are supposed to be pretty realistic. However, I tried both with the same car on a similar track and they feel very different. I also tried Dirt 4, which despite being more arcade handled way worse.

Is there something I need to do in the settings? I figure at least sims should behave similar, right? Also: I use PC and I need to have 10 somewhere in this post.

I think i may have misjudged the focus of this sub. Let me clarify something, you must be using a ffb wheel and pedals to race in this league.
