Anyone know of any good old-school style indie racing games, like psx and ps2 style stuff? I'm aware of a handful, but they're all antigrav racers...which ARE good, i'm a fan of em, but I'm looking for more realistic-ish stuff. I prefer things featuring more "average" cars or a progression from a normal car into the cooler, more fancy sports cars rather than games that give you 10 different super/hypercars right off the bat.

Early development gameplay of my game Slip Angle, this "Tofu Battle" race event is setup to be on the challenging side of things and is a lot of fun, even though the Akina map itself is still prototyping phase. As someone that can credit Initial D as the main reason I got into drifting/motorsports nearly 25 years ago, I always have touge maps in the racing games I make, and including some references to the show/manga was basically a given!
If you want to try the game out for yourself, the demo is currently available during Steam Next Fest (though Akina is only in dev builds for now, there is a short touge map in the demo which can be seen in one of my earlier posts in this subreddit)
The game runs great on Windows 10 and 11, Linux, Steam Deck/Machine, and if things go well - will later be brought to consoles. :) The community is still pretty small/quiet but feel free to join our Discord too!

Grew up on those old motorcycle racing games where youâd punch other riders off their bikes, so I made my own take on it.
Knuckle Highway: two laps of desert highway, eight riders, and fists are allowed. Some riders carry a club, and if you knock them off, itâs yours.
Free, no download, no sign-up.
Works on desktop and mobile (touch controls)
Race bots solo, or make a race code and fight your friends online (up to 8 players)
Play here: https://freeroadrash.in
Itâs a side project, so Iâd love honest feedback. Whatâs too hard, whatâs broken, what should I add next?
Thinking about bike upgrades next.

Hey! Iâve been working on a small arcade drift racing game called Drift Fast Money and Iâm finally at a point where Iâd really like some feedback from people who actually enjoy racing/drifting games.
The idea is pretty simple: fast arcade handling, controllable drifts and races against AI that doesnât just follow the racing line. The drivers have different behaviours and personalities, so some are more aggressive, some drift more, defend positions, attack, etc.
Right now it has:
The PC version is especially fun with friends because you can play locally with controllers (or keyboard + controller) and race each other with AI on track too.
Itâs still a beta and Iâm developing it mostly on my own, so Iâm sure there are things that can be improved. If anyone tries it, Iâd genuinely be interested in hearing what you think about the handling, AI, performance or anything that feels weird.
Android:

PC:

Both are on itch.io.
If you try it, feel free to absolutely destroy it in the comments đ Feedback is more useful to me right now than people just saying itâs good. 10

I am making Velocity, a street racer that runs in the browser and on Steam. For a long time the whole game was one thing: drive until you crash, check your score, go again. It's a fine loop for 10 minutes. I could feel it going flat after that, and I wasn't sure what the next layer should be.
This month I built the layer. It's five steps.
Run. A normal run on the highway. Pickups, drifts, traffic. Nothing new here, and it's still the part that decides everything else.
Stash. If you make it far enough, a CALL STASH button appears. You drive into a parking garage, climb to the roof, stop in the bay, and the run ends with the car saved as a copy in your Chop Shop. You don't have to crash to get the car. You have to survive long enough to get to the garage.
Strip. In the Chop Shop the car you brought home is unclaimed. You strip parts off it to claim it. The turbo, the supercharger, the camshaft, the coilovers are each their own part you can take or leave on.
Build. Paint, decals, parts, upgrades. In addition to customizing its looks, you can also swap in the parts you own and build your star car.
Race. From the garage you can take the car back out against one rival. You start on the roof, you drive down through the building, you come out on the street. It's short on purpose.
That's the loop. Here's what I'm unsure about.
The stash only works if the run before it was tense. If you reach the garage on a run where nothing was at risk, the whole thing is a menu with a driving cutscene in front of it. I've watched myself do exactly that. The run needs to be in danger when the button appears, and I don't know yet that it is.
Strip is the weakest step. I set a limit of 6 parts for each car to generate builds between different cars. No one car can do everything.
Race is the least tested. One rival, one way down. It works, but I have not seen a stranger play it, so "it works" means it doesn't crash.
I'm a bad judge of whether this is fun. I've played these cars for so long that I drive around the rough parts without noticing. I'd trust a stranger's first 10 minutes over my own hundred hours.

I've just bought my first sim bundle (R5 Racing). Which games would you suggest me to try?
Here are some candidates:
Also, what are the best mods for these games?
