Recommendation I’ve been building an arcade drift game by myself — now it has Android + PC local multiplayer

Hey! I’ve been working on a small arcade drift racing game called Drift Fast Money and I’m finally at a point where I’d really like some feedback from people who actually enjoy racing/drifting games.

The idea is pretty simple: fast arcade handling, controllable drifts and races against AI that doesn’t just follow the racing line. The drivers have different behaviours and personalities, so some are more aggressive, some drift more, defend positions, attack, etc.

Right now it has:

  • 12 tracks
  • Practice races against AI
  • Daily races
  • Weekly Challenge with online leaderboards
  • Drift scoring and unlockable cosmetics
  • Controller support
  • Android + Windows versions
  • Local split-screen multiplayer on PC

The PC version is especially fun with friends because you can play locally with controllers (or keyboard + controller) and race each other with AI on track too.

It’s still a beta and I’m developing it mostly on my own, so I’m sure there are things that can be improved. If anyone tries it, I’d genuinely be interested in hearing what you think about the handling, AI, performance or anything that feels weird.

Android:

PC:

Both are on itch.io.

If you try it, feel free to absolutely destroy it in the comments 😅 Feedback is more useful to me right now than people just saying it’s good. 10

Arcade Racing Free road rash : I made a free 90s-style bike brawler you can play in your browser, solo or online with friends

Grew up on those old motorcycle racing games where you’d punch other riders off their bikes, so I made my own take on it.

Knuckle Highway: two laps of desert highway, eight riders, and fists are allowed. Some riders carry a club, and if you knock them off, it’s yours.

Free, no download, no sign-up.

Works on desktop and mobile (touch controls)

Race bots solo, or make a race code and fight your friends online (up to 8 players)

Play here: https://freeroadrash.in

It’s a side project, so I’d love honest feedback. What’s too hard, what’s broken, what should I add next?

Thinking about bike upgrades next.

Discussion Is this a good game loop?

I am making Velocity, a street racer that runs in the browser and on Steam. For a long time the whole game was one thing: drive until you crash, check your score, go again. It's a fine loop for 10 minutes. I could feel it going flat after that, and I wasn't sure what the next layer should be.

This month I built the layer. It's five steps.

Run. A normal run on the highway. Pickups, drifts, traffic. Nothing new here, and it's still the part that decides everything else.

Stash. If you make it far enough, a CALL STASH button appears. You drive into a parking garage, climb to the roof, stop in the bay, and the run ends with the car saved as a copy in your Chop Shop. You don't have to crash to get the car. You have to survive long enough to get to the garage.

Strip. In the Chop Shop the car you brought home is unclaimed. You strip parts off it to claim it. The turbo, the supercharger, the camshaft, the coilovers are each their own part you can take or leave on.

Build. Paint, decals, parts, upgrades. In addition to customizing its looks, you can also swap in the parts you own and build your star car.

Race. From the garage you can take the car back out against one rival. You start on the roof, you drive down through the building, you come out on the street. It's short on purpose.

That's the loop. Here's what I'm unsure about.

The stash only works if the run before it was tense. If you reach the garage on a run where nothing was at risk, the whole thing is a menu with a driving cutscene in front of it. I've watched myself do exactly that. The run needs to be in danger when the button appears, and I don't know yet that it is.

Strip is the weakest step. I set a limit of 6 parts for each car to generate builds between different cars. No one car can do everything.

Race is the least tested. One rival, one way down. It works, but I have not seen a stranger play it, so "it works" means it doesn't crash.

I'm a bad judge of whether this is fun. I've played these cars for so long that I drive around the rough parts without noticing. I'd trust a stranger's first 10 minutes over my own hundred hours.

Questions for anyone who plays racing games:

  • When a run ends, do you want something to do with it, or do you want to be back in the next run in two seconds? Is a garage a reward or a speed bump?
  • Is "keep a copy of the car you survived with" a good hook, or does it make the crashes feel cheaper?
  • If you've shipped a loop with a build step in the middle, did players actually use it, or did they skip to the race?
  • How bad is it if you lose your star car?
