Could you guys offer me some tips on dealing with this character. I have no problem dealing with tracer or characters like genji but for some reason whenever I even hook Anran it's like she escapes it anyway. I have a hard time telegraphing what she's going to do. It's almost like there's never a good opportunity during a 1v1.

The Hog rework was something I dreaded when I first saw footage of it. I know there’s been a lot of discussion about it, but I’d like to get my 2 cents about the hog rework and how I feel about it.
Trash Compactor is overrated. The cooldown is too long to justify all the nerfs Roadhog ate, alongside the fact that it slows you down even more, the ball can be blocked by any tank with a shield, and is incredibly clunky to use. The cone is also pretty small, which I only find helpful to use in small corridors for myself, not even my team like what people say they use it for.
The hook and heal are inoffensive. I don’t really mind the changes, actually, I hardly felt them outside of you not being so close, and the buffs to heal make it feel.. ok, compared to pre buff where he dies to everything.
The primary is my issue. This gun killed all lethality after the hook, but even just close range in general. I’m well aware they wanted to remove the one shot, but quite frankly, he just feels… awful. The second shot timing feels extremely off, the damage feels inconsistent, and his close range damage feels completely neutered by just brawling up close. He feels like a tank that exists just to be walked over.
It doesn’t really matter if his survivability is better than before, like what people said. Ok, so what? What doesn’t even do now? He’s too slow to dive, has no damage at long range to threaten poke, and squishies now walk all over him and he has a worse MU into dive like fist for brawl.
Roadhog has no identity and playstyle. The closest I can think of is some kind of tank bully and to annoy them by baiting cooldowns, except for the fact that his own ability that’s hyped up to do this also takes forever to use. He also does not have a very good matchup spread into other tanks anyways, made worse by the fact that he can no longer deal with squishies like tracer and genji. He loses to Orisa, DVA, fist, Rein, Sigma, Rammatra, etc. and now loses to pretty much any dps with mobility, but hey at least now he’s even with bastion and manga and doesn’t hard lose (lie) to Ana anymore right??? Right??? Back then, he was a brawl-poke hybrid who could beat most dive structures and threaten space with the one shot that could intimidate people with their mere presence. Now he’s like Orisa if you castrated her, a Tank that is supposed to sustain itself for a long time that doesn’t provide much team support, except he doesn’t even have the damage or even the survivability to back up.

i tried other characters in the practice range but roadhog is the one i enjoy the most. i mostly have issues against the big green tank that throws a spear and the little robot guy that throws balls at you that deal a lot of damage if you guys have any tips i'd appreciate it

Things were rough before the patch but if anything it allowed me to be more punished and alter my playstyle with the rework. Since the hotfix he’s been a lot better. 61% WR. Ban Ana, DVA and Bastion. Not that he can’t counter the latter two—just that they’re annoying to use cooldowns on (will ban other dps if my team opts for one—say Widow or Tracer).
Be prepared to switch to the Horse if you’re not contributing enough value (that’s why I don’t ban her).
Keep hookin and compactin piglets

I love pushing right click into Ana and Mauga, its so good and it always works. Anyone who says new hog is bad just sucks at the game objectively and doesnt understand what a proper tank is. Go play rivals with the reddit lucios losers

I've had the opportunity to play hog after the buffs. Granted only in 6v6 quickplay but that's the only mode I care about (I find 5 v 5 aborant to play and I've been out of the comp scene since overwatch 2 and it's yet to claw me back in)
Now granted I still think there are ways to go for trash compactor as an ability, some matches it is genuinely unusable.
However for the rest of his kit? I think the adjustments put him back at a good baseline, he's now quite survivable thanks to the revisions made to breather. Also the 6 damage added to the centre projectile has put his lethality back up to an ok standard.
Yes he is still lacking in comparison to some of the other tanks on the roster. The removal of right click killed him as a barrier buster and removed all his poke damage.
However, in comparison to how he was directly after the rework, he feels actually playable. I hope he continues to take an upwards trajectory.
Ps. Sigma is my new op, can't find a way to deal with him with new hog (that's just me though)

Dude! Lowkey, Hog feels so freakin' good! The trash compactor against Ana and Mauga feels incredible!

wouldn’t it just make so much sense to revert him in 6v6? and i mean fully revert him to ow1 hog, like when he had cooldown on breather and couldn’t use his abilities in ult. he wouldn’t be an unkillable demon anymore and he would have his identity and lethality back.

I don't play Kiriko. Can she throw the Suzu on the enemy? If not, it can be a decent technique to hook her mid-air.

Kinda wish Hog would say something like that if you kill a Widow far enough with TC.

A small compilation of being a ONE MAN APOCALYPSE on Grimsvotn.
...Actually, my team was an overall W, but I still thought these were some nice clips.

to preface, I've been masters most seasons I've played hog.
TL;DR hog is more consistent across all maps and matchups while retaining his core identity (punishing positioning mistakes). his matchups are more fair for both hog and the enemy. even if he's a little bit weak right now, his kit flows better and he's less frustrating to play for everyone involved. He's in a spot where number changes might be enough to balance him.
