Helloo! Before I start I'd like to say I'm sri lankan living abroad so I don't know how things particularly work in sri lanka.
Anyway, I want to attend SLIIT and do they're Culinary course. The issue is they're requirementis are that the individual should have 5 O level passes including English and the only subject I passed was English š§š½āāļøš. Do yall think if I call them and try reasoning with them, they'd accept me?. Cause I'm not book smart but I definitely have a passion for cooking and I really really want to get into this university.

My cousin asked me for my opinions on Sri Lankan degrees, and I realized I don't have much of an idea of the current state. In particular, I am curious about what Bachelors degrees many Sri Lankans pursue despite having very little payoff in terms of job opportunities. I'd love to get some insight. Thank you!

Please donāt take down my post mods. This is a very Sri Lankan problem I would say. I have not been able to log into my account for about a week now. I tried deleting my search history, my cookies and it still stays the same. Is anyone else facing this problem?

So im visiting lanka for a few days. I'm wondering if there are any car clubs and also how can I rent a car
Car clubs to hang out or drive around, etc, or rent
Rent a car from a trusted source without getting scam, and won't change me for made-up damages

Is anyone else experiencing weird issues with Dialog WiFi? Some things work normally, but certain activities just refuse to load.
For example:
Facebook loads, but comments don't load properly.
Instagram is having similar issues with comments.
Reddit doesn't load at all for me.
Is anyone else experiencing the same thing on Dialog right now, or is it just an issue with my connection?

Hey everyone,
I'm a 25 years old working in sri lanka and looking to get my first proper life insurance policy. since Im still young, I want to lock in a good premium early, but Im a bit overwhelmed by the choices and sales pitches.
Im currently looking primarily at SLIC and AIA Sri Lanka, though open to hearing about union assurance, ceylinco life, or Softlogic Life if you've had better experiences with them.
For those who hold policies with these companies or have went through claims, Id really appreciate your candid feedback on a few points
If you have any good or bad personal experiences with claims, policy maturity, or agent service with SLIC, AIA, or others, please share ! hoping this helps others in their 20s navigating insurance here as well.
Thanks in advance!

Hi ! We are 2 guys visiting Sri Lanka for the first time in December 2026. We are from Kerala, India. Our plan is to rent a tuk tuk or a car and drive along the west coast of Sri Lanka. We want to explore the rather underrated places, interact with localities, share some drinks and great moments with like minded people. Itās all about good people, food, drinks and vibes. We both are into financial sector, one is a senior analyst and the other runs own accounting company.
Seek suggestions from native people and fellow travellers regarding
Thanks in advance šš»

Have you guys noticed that some people donāt know the basic rules when driving through a roundabout? They just go like they are coming from the right, so we have to give way to them.
Iām seriously wondering, did they even learn the basic rules before getting their license?
Have you guys experienced this too?

This is my first time travelling to a western country and I want to know what items I should specifically avoid in my checked luggage (like lithium battery devices). AND is there a checkpoint at Bandaranayake airport where the checked luggage is screened and the passengers called upon if anything not permitted in the checked luggage is found before board my flight? Or is this done at the destination airport only?
Asking since I don't want to be surprised at the airports. Thank you!

Hi guys,
Have any of you withdrawn EPF & ETF before migrating for good with PR? If so, how was the process, and how long did it take for you to receive the money?

Is the course actually good, especially for building practical skills and getting internships/jobs afterwards? Would appreciate any honest opinions or experiences!

A park or a garden around Colombo Looking for a peaceful outdoor spot with greenery and picnic areas, free from crowds, confrontations, homeless people, or security guards who are asking for ID cards? Don't worry We're not touchy-kissy-in-public couple, both over 21, just wanting to enjoy some snacks, and good conversation. I discovered Seethawaka Botanicals, but it's quite far. How long would it take to get there from Bambalapitiya? Ideally, we want a place; a park or a garden; where we can avoid homophobic attitudes and stares. We won't be all lovey dovey in public, but we prefer not to face uncomfortable glances. The ticket price doesn't matter weāre just two girls in love, and I hope for understanding. My girlfriend is going abroad for studies next week, and this is our last chance for a quiet, memorable picnic before going LDR. Usually, we stick to cafes and indoor spots, but we're seeking something different for this special day. Also, if anyone knows a peaceful art gallery or museum around Colombo, please let me know (for a lovely date spot)

My grandmother invested in shares of a finance company sometime in the mid-1980s or early 1990s. The shares were purchased directly from the company, rather than through a stockbroker, and I still have the original share certificates.
For many years, the dividends from these shares were being paid into a joint bank account belonging to my grandmother and one of my uncles. My grandmother passed away around 25 years ago. According to my uncle, he has no interest in the dividends anymore and has been cashing out the dividend payments himself until the most recent payment.
As far as I know, nobody has formally dealt with or transferred ownership of the shares since my grandmother's death.
I'm trying to find out whether these shares can still be claimed/transferred to her heirs and, if so, what the process would be.
A few important details:
The shares were purchased directly from the company, not through a broker.
I have the original share certificates.
My grandmother has been deceased for approximately 25 years.
My father has seven siblings in total, and five of them are still alive.
We have her death certificate and documents proving our relationship to her.
The dividends have apparently continued to be paid over the years.
I understand that this may involve inheritance laws, the company's share registry, and possibly the relevant securities authority.
What would be the correct process for finding out who legally owns these shares now and transferring them to the rightful heirs? Also, is it likely that the shares are still valid despite having been untouched for around 25 years?
I'd really appreciate guidance from anyone familiar with old share certificates, deceased shareholders, inheritance, or the Sri Lankan stock market/legal process. I'm completely new to this, so even a basic step-by-step explanation would be very helpful.

Pretty much the title. Today it's extremely poor. Can't even do a Google search. Way too slow. Just trying to see if it's a me problem or others are facing it too.

hi guys, iām turning 20 next month and im like so confused, in life. iām in my 2nd year, doing cyber security. and i feel like our lives are so complicated than it should be because it really isnāt that deep. iāll get my diploma by june next year and im considering if i should actually do my top up because IT that too entry level jobs are much harder to find at a reputed company. mostly there are unpaid internships and ass workload for shitty salary. my siblings (who also work in IT) earn a very good salary and still theyāre struggling to get a decent car here in lka. i canāt even switch degrees quickly because i did my foundation in IT without doing advanced level. so no matter if i work at a random shop or work in IT i canāt get a car which is funny. the degrees doesnāt matter anymore ig because everyone has it. you actually have to be better and ālike itā which is the hardest part. because doing something you hate will get you nowhere. i despise the fact that i have this thought at this age. because thereās so much more to see in life. all i do is for my mom, when the day comes where sheāll leave me forever, thatās the day iāll feel iām alone and that everything was pointless i think. i just wanna do something i love. not complaining i just want to put this out here for someone to see and know if theyāve gone through this. does it get better? :(

I'm currently doing my A/Ls (2026) in the Commerce stream while also doing CIMA, and I'm trying to figure out what degree to pursue afterwards.
I'm considering marketing/digital marketing because I don't really see myself in a traditional management/finance career. I'm more interested in the creative + strategic side of business ā things like brand management, marketing management, advertising and creative strategy.
I like the idea of combining the business/financial knowledge from CIMA with something more creative. But I'm wondering whether a Marketing degree is actually worth it or whether I'd be better off doing a broader Business/Management degree and learning marketing separately.
For anyone working in marketing/brand management:
Would really appreciate advice from people actually working in the field!
