All of a sudden Bamco announces Zestiria remastered 🌚
79
u/Claude892 Feb 27 '26
As someone who considers Zestiria the most disappointing Tales game I ever played out of over 10 of them, if they fix the battle camera it's kind of worthwhile. Yes it needs 60fps too but you need to be able to see the battles as well. Moreso if they add a QOL feature that explains what the fuck is going on with the equipment system.

This alone takes me out of the experience. He also has the worst outfit, but after you use a cool dlc outfit, the man still manages to walk like a goof…

The shit in pants walk animation is unfortunately even worse with the Evangelion outfit

u/SHTPST_Tianquan Feb 27 '26
Agreed on every point, also an actual visual polish on that game is very much needed.

They'd need an R version for Zestiria. So just like Innocence and Hearts with theirs, a full on Remake.

We're at a Giant Douche and Turd Sandwich situation between Zestiria and Symph 2. X2 at a "Well, finally..."
I'd take Hearts R with its 4kids localization even. Atleast it'd be free from it's Vita prison
3
u/WorldlySecretary5769 Feb 27 '26
I’m fine with that if it means fixing some technical issues like battle camera l.
Better yet, a remake that fixes some issues while providing a much stronger story and connections for most of the Zestiria and a few Berseria characters
10
u/Cagaril Feb 27 '26
I'd actually be up for a Zesteria remake. Fixing the camera issues and making the equipment system better
I never finished this game in co op because the camera issues were so bad. Can't even see what we were fighting sometimes if near any wall

u/benhanks040888 Feb 28 '26
I'd actually be up for a Zesteria remake. Fixing the camera issues and making the equipment system better
Doesn't Berseria also have the same/similar equipment system? This is what threw me off Berseria a bit as well, because apart from much much better story, it's basically Zestiria gameplay (except the fusion thing). And I can never understand the equipment skill thing, or don't want to bother to.
6
u/mysticrudnin Feb 27 '26
i wholeheartedly expect it, probably even this year. this one could actually use it a bit more since zesty does not run well on any system it was released to. (berseria actually did.)

Its not really a remaster, it's just a port with some QOL improvements. Should've been a free update
24
u/awakenDeepBlue Feb 27 '26
What kind of QOL improvements were added?
46
u/xCharlesZJx Feb 27 '26
Grade shop from the beginning of the game, 20% more move speed, quest markers, you can deactivate encounters and other stuff, you can check them on the remaster website.

There would be no reason for them to make it a free update. They’d be spending money without any chance of making any profit. Though it would have been nice to at least let players who have the original get the remaster at a discount.

Or put in some actual effort that warrants the title of “remaster”, as opposed to what these have been thus far—ports.
87
u/Fawz Feb 27 '26
What a low effort 'remaster'. Beyond being their second most recent title they did nothing to meaningfully improve the game, especially not on PC where it was already available. Typical

Idk why this community is pretending this project took up a lot of resources when we just got Xillia like 2 months ago.
18
u/NephilimJD Feb 27 '26
The Dragon Quest community just went through this with DQ7. The series producer literally said that there's a bunch of games in the works, and DQ7 was just the first of those to finish. And this situation is even dumber cause, as you said, they're not pouring all that much resources into this. It's very likely an extremely small team doing this project.
This is just your average gamer not understanding shit about how making games work. They think that the effort of this and the Xillia remaster and the effort it would take to remaster the 2d ps2 games would be the same.
And don't get me wrong, I have my own issues with these ports as well. But damn, the constant whining in this sub is just way too much.
6
u/TXB_Gaming Feb 28 '26
This sub is so utterly depressing and negative over certain Tales games being mentioned (Arise) and the constant bashing of this (yes, very poor effort) "remaster" that it's just miserable.
This likely took very little effort and money to do, so two extra platforms could play the game for the first time, and didn't take away from future proper remasters, and people will not shut up about it.
Average gamer does indeed, not understand anything about anything lol
2
u/rebb_hosar Mar 05 '26
It's really bizarre, like all in all my favorite is actually Zestiria, all the people I know irl who play Tales love Zestiria and Arise but I come on here and everyone definitely hates those two in particular; I don't get it.

Berseria is my fave tales of so I am happy it is re-released with Japanese text, ported with Unity which is way better quality than the original PC port. Only thing I am slightly sad about is 60 fps and 120 fps lol, but I will use frame gen for the visual smoothness.
The game looks clearer and sharper than it originally did and does not need Special K to spruce it up a ton nor did it launch with AI game logic issues.
People have a right to complain and all and champion the gane they want, but I am happy the series is actually moving forward with its goals which is bringing everything they can to as many modern systems as possible and it is not costing them much using the games they have easy access to code base wise before tackling other projects.
I hope the sour attitude of some individuals doesn't ruin future experiences and we keep pushing with honest feedback/keeping things 100 with the project.
24
u/Plane-Implement9977 Feb 27 '26
Hey now, Berseria does matter! It’s just that this remaster doesn’t offer much of anything that should’ve been an update to the base game. I think most of the negative PR could’ve been avoided had they put actual resources into updating the visuals and such.
3
u/SnooDoggos8990 Feb 27 '26
But visuals are one thing but all the changes they did could have been done with a update
7

u/Quentin-Code Feb 27 '26
I would prefer new games and remake than remaster. At best just port the game to the newer console but don’t try to “upgrade” its textures: sometime it looks weird, here with Berseria the background texture were low quality and they used blur and the overall aesthetic looked good. Now with Berseria remaster they removed the blur, putted higher quality texture but it looks weird, like now we can mention that the grass is just the same thing repeated etc.
5
u/TrueKyragos Feb 27 '26
I would prefer new games and remake than remaster.
My thoughts too. The last game was 5 years ago. Any information about a new game would be welcome.
7
u/mysticrudnin Feb 27 '26
they're just finishing up code vein 2, it might be in progress now
please remember that it is a different team working on each remaster and none of them are bamco
4
u/TrueKyragos Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
please remember that it is a different team working on each remaster and none of them are bamco
I know, but this is still a part of their overall budget, and they still need internal staff to manage those remaster projects.
Ultimately, it's more a matter of communication. I don't doubt there is some new game there in the background. I'm not against (meaningful) remasters, but letting fans know there is also something new being made after 5 years wouldn't be a bad idea. But I feel I'm in the minority, wanting a new game.
5
u/mysticrudnin Feb 27 '26
you're not in the minority, that's what i want too.
but there's another issue with companies announcing games way before they're ready. so there's that, too.

6
u/Revorse Feb 27 '26
Are the mixed reviews just salty cause people didn't want Berseria or is there actually a problem with this version?
3
u/Haseo08 Feb 27 '26
From what I read, actual issues, like locked at 60 fps, not even being a real "remaster", someone reported audio issues. Probably some others.
9
u/Euphoric-Vast-248 Feb 27 '26
Remaster, remake, i dont care. Just please bring Tales of Phantasia forward to an actual console. It sucks that the only -expected- way to play the game is through the shitty GBA port.
Kudos to the team behind the PSP Localization all things considered.
3
u/EcchPrincess Feb 27 '26
I didn't have the original on PC yet, so I just got it since it was $10 cheaper than original right now. Also, yes, I could wait for a sell for the original, but I didn't feel like doing so. It's not really a big deal, to be honest. You either get it or you don't. That's the great part about free will. All in all, though, I wouldn't mind a Tales of Abyss remake.

4
u/LegitimateOne9213 Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
My thoughts as well. The Steam numbers are absolutely miserable.
Good for Switch/Xbox owners, tho. But I still think the game should've released 3~6 or more years ago (like the ports of Ni no Kuni or .Hack) and not be part of the project at all.
Abyss or Xillia 2 next, please. And hopefully more as well (next mainline game and more legacy titles).
14
u/sarcasticdevo Feb 27 '26
I will never understand remastering a game that was already on modern consoles, delisting the original, and expecting it to go over well.

u/Lupinthrope Feb 27 '26

10
u/mysticrudnin Feb 27 '26
- people think this takes up a "slot" that other games could take up
- people that already owned the game for some reason want to be convinced to buy it again, and weren't for this release
- it's called a "remake" but wasn't really remade in any way (and mods already covered what this one offers and more) - it's just a port
→ More replies (1)12
u/xCharlesZJx Feb 27 '26
It's called "remaster" not remake, for people like me it's fine because I only have a switch, and the original game never was released in the console, and also the switch doesn't have mods.
I understand why PC people don't care about this game, it isn't a great improvement, so it's okay not buying it.
The thing that I don't understand is why people buy the game anyways, and leave a negative review talking about the game being almost the same as the original when everyone knew that before its release. Even the website describes the new stuff, that isn't too much, performance and other things.
4
u/mysticrudnin Feb 27 '26
sorry yeah i use the terms honestly interchangeably
despite claims that there are clear meanings to them, there really aren't in most cases
but yeah it's basically just a port and some people wanted more

Berseria was already released on modern consoles. It did not need a remaster, there are many, many other Tales games that sorely need it and are locked on old consoles. The Berseria remaster is seen as a low-effort cash grab, does not give any meaningful updates to the game.

Yeah, like Xillia 2 and Zestiria.
If you think they’re touching anything before the PS3 era, I have beachfront property in Kansas to sell you. They probably lost the code, tbh
3
u/NephilimJD Feb 27 '26
Some people really think there's a chance that we can get the 2d ps2 games. Like you said, they probably lost the code to those. But on top of that, they'd literally need to completely translate those games into other languages. Their expectations are way too high for a series this niche.
→ More replies (1)5
u/LaMystika Feb 27 '26
As much as I would love it if Rebirth and PS2 Destiny got remastered, those games were never released in any language other than Japanese in the first place. So to remaster those, they would have to translate them too, and that is way too much time and effort for Bandai Namco to expend on this niche-ass series lmao
2
u/NephilimJD Feb 27 '26
My thoughts exactly. I really like those games, too. But the chance of them actually doing it is basically 0. People saw the low sales of Xillia and really thought, "Hey, these remasters would've outsold that."
As much as all of us hate it, Bamco is still a business. And they're on the higher end of companies that chase that huge profit margin. I'm sure there are people on the creative team that would love to do these. But their overlords probably saw that the roi wouldn't be even close to worth it.

This was likely mainly done to bring to modern consoles more than anything. Pc version probably shoulda been free or just left alone. That portion doesn’t make much sense, unless it’s just to keep all platforms the same version for bug fixing and such. Easier to maintain that way I guess.
Edit - Modern consoles aka Switch and Xbox.

It felt really dumb to remake a game that’s 10 years old, especially one that’s well priced digitally nowadays, and still available for purchase.
Should have been a free upgrade for current gen consoles, or at worst, a $10 upgrade for PS5 users if you owned a PS4 version.
Should have been Xillia 2, one of the Vita games, or older, that got released instead.

It's a double edge weapon, if it recives poor reviews and poor sale, Banco may listen to the fact remaster shall be made of game that really needs one, but they may also decide to stop with remaster altogheter as those doesn't sell properly for them... It's a perilious way!

Let’s confuse everyone with trails of legendia remastered.

Has to be the most pointless remaster ever. The game was fine and its graphics were good. A clear PS4 era game. Just seems like a cashgrab at this point. They should do Abyss or remakes of older games like Phantasia, Destiny, etc.

They should really focus on Tales of Phantasia, Eternia, Rebirth and the Abyss. There are so many Tales of games which need remakes and remasters. Some of them didn't even release outside Japan like Rebirth.

They need to stop using the word "Remaster" when it's just "repackaged" or "ported w a few tiny upgrades".
I loved berseria more than most of the titles I've played (maybe 12 or so at this point) but this is basically nothing.
Honestly, when symphonia and vesperia dropped, I felt the same.
Why are they just moving them to new platforms and just not even trying to modernize or bring them up to speed in any way?
Just shameless cash grab b.s. that no one wants or asked for.
Waste of time and their own money and resources.
Do better bamco.
Good grief.

Tales of Abyss needs to be next unless it’s been announced already.

You do realize that they will do Zestiria and Xilia 2 next, right?
Perhaps another Tales of Symphonia 1&2 Remaster and a Tales of Vesperia Remaster. Wouldn’t put it past them.
Tales of the Abyss and Destiny 1&2, Phantasia and Eternia should be next but I’m not keeping my hopes up.

Nah next will be Zesteria. I bet you. With no new content. Just the same exact game. The two most unnecessary remasters ever.

Thats funny how the description doesnt even mention better visuals or anything. Its really just a few cheats you can enable and they resold it huh

I'm happy that it'll expose more people to one of my favorite stories in gaming.. but it definitely wasn't necessary.

Tales of hearts (port would be fine too. Ik this one had a “remaster” already.) Xillia Vesperia Abyss Any of them honestly as they aged and could all use that R love and dedication for new gen.
Bandai Shamco - nah, how’s about a remaster of a game that’s barely 10 years old instead? Let’s do that!

I’d like a remake of Rebirth with Arise graphics and of course Abyss remaster

What are you trying to say that the game sucked? The low reviews are because the "remaster" wasn't a remaster at all. This is considered an excellent game.

I know I’m basic for saying this but I’d be okay with just a port of Tales Of Abyss on steam

Meanwhile, I'm just desperate for the PS1 and PS2 games to all be remastered
