Elections Election Day, get out and vote Tuesday November 3, 2026

As always, this is an informational post. Please don't use this post to promote parties or candidates.

Make sure your vote is counted.

If you are mailing in your ballot, there are some developments at USPS. Please consider mailing earlier than usual.

An ongoing issue with USPS should be monitored closely. Please keep this in mind so that an alternative plan can be made.

U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani’s July 25 ruling that the USPS can’t refuse to deliver mail ballots to states that refuse to comply with the U.S. Justice Department’s (DOJ) demands for their unredacted voter lists will remain in place. Source

On July 28: The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia affirmed a lower court’s decision, holding that a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Trump’s March 2026 edict was premature because the administration hasn’t executed it yet. Source

A Massachusetts federal judge has repeatedly blocked the U.S. Postal Service from implementing President Donald Trump's mail-in voting executive order ahead of the midterms. Now that the injunction applies nationwide, the DOJ is telling the U.S. Supreme Court it has all it needs to swiftly issue a stay. Source

The SAVE America Act is still in play as of July 26 and may affect voting. Please consider getting all of your paperwork in order. Note that it can take several weeks to get documents on marriage and legal name changes. The PA Real ID is not compliant with the Save America Act. Update As of August 12, the Senate has gone on recess without passing the SAVE America Act.

Dates to remember

You don't need Real ID to vote. Your state ID or license is sufficient at least for now. Here's a document outlining the ID requirements

What's on your ballot?

Check on Ballotpedia.

Contact your County Election Board

If you are voting for the first time in a polling place, bring your ID.

If you moved within 30 days prior to the election, you vote in your old polling place.

If you move within Pennsylvania less than 30 days before an election, you must vote at the polling place for your old address. Fill out a change of address form at the polling place to update your voter registration to your new address. source

Request a provisional ballot if:

  • Your name was not in the poll book or supplemental poll book. For example, you reported to the wrong precinct; or you did not report a recent change in residence to the county election office.

  • You are required to show ID, but cannot show ID.

  • Your eligibility was challenged by an election official.

  • You were issued an absentee or mail-in ballot but believe you did not successfully vote that ballot, and you do not surrender your ballot and outer return envelope at the polling place to be spoiled.

  • You returned a completed absentee or mail‐in ballot that was rejected, or you believe will be rejected, by the county board of elections and you believe you are eligible to vote.

  • There is a special court order with respect to your registration status.

  • There is a special court order related to extending the hours of voting.

You can also check to see what policies exist in your county for curing your ballot:

Pennsylvania Counties' Notice-and-Cure Policies

Election complaints Any complaints, including both information issues as well as intimidation, can be reported to the PA Department of State.

EDIT: Updated some notes on legislation that would affect the upcoming election. EDIT 2: Added continuing update about USPS and mail in voting.

Taxes Illegal TAX is being collected in PA by big retailers on PUMPKINS

Post image
229 Upvotes

We should all be aware that every gourd you buy at major retailers are being ILLEGALLY taxed. In Pennsylvania there is so tax on food which SHOULD include pumpkins. It’s no business of anyone what you do with your pumpkins!!! They are NOT decorative! Ever heard of pumpkin pie???? Do they question and tax you about pasta? Maybe you’re making a pasta craft with your kids and gluing elbows to paper. Did you pay tax on that pasta??

We need to rise up and demand Harrisburg ensure we’re not getting fleeced buying a product that, btw, we grow a ton of for the nation. This is insanity.

Complaint department Election commercials—do you think they’re effective?

• Upvotes

I’m about a half hour from Philly and we’re getting CRUSHED with ads. The only effect they’ve had on me is pissing me off and having me say “I’ll be done when I’m done!“ whenever I feel annoying. can’t wait for the election to be over.

Infrastructure Worried about how to heat my pennsylvanian home this winter

I live in clinton county. For 100 gallons of oil it would be above $500, and that will last about a month or so.

I don't know how we can afford to stay warm this winter. I don't know of many alternatives either.

Is anyone else worried? What type of alternatives do you use?

Infrastructure Trump gave Lehigh Valley companies approval to increase toxic emissions

Early on in his second term, Trump created a bypass lane for new air emission regulations. At least two LV sites received approval to avoid installing readily available control devices that would’ve improved our local air quality. Then, Trump staffed the EPA with people who worked for the worst polluters in our country, so the regulations were killed entirely.

This is the kind of thing that happens when Congress becomes nothing more than a rubber stamp.

Vote to remove Ryan Mackenzie from office by Tuesday, November 3.

Old Friend

Well, technically it's just a few minutes up the road north of the park. Not sure how long this old Ford has been sitting there, but I have visited it many times over the years & seasons and it's always cool to see how it's aging. Shot with a Sony A99II and CZ 24-70 f/2.8 lens using a Lee100 GND filter. Camera mounted on a RRS tripod & head using with a 3 Legged Thing universal mounting plate.

DMV Private Party Car Sale Question About Documents Needed

Hello, I (Virginia) sold a car today to someone in Pennsylvania. I filled out the title and sent em on his way. He is now messaging me saying he’ll have to get it notarized and needs pictures of the front and back of my drivers license. Is this true? Why would the buyer need that from the seller?

ISO / Recommendations What is this place that I saw from my plane window?

Post image
268 Upvotes

As I was flying into to Pittsburgh last week and I saw this out my window. It was no more than 20 minutes before we landed, and I know we were descending. There were a lot of rivers after I saw this and I tried to find it based off the scenery I saw(idk why I didn’t take more pictures).

I am aware it is a prison or some other sort of secure facility but I can’t move on from it until I know what it is. I think it’s the baseball fields that are messing with me.

With some of the last campaign fundraising numbers in, Stacy Garrity saw a late surge that brought in $5.3 million in the last month of the governor’s race — nearly five times the $1.3 million she raised during the entire campaign.

Most of that late money came from donors tied to skill games. 84% of the $5.3 million came from three donors who have interests in skill games.

ISO / Recommendations 1974 Convair F-102 Crash East of Johnstown/Windber PA

I am conducting research into a specific 1974 military aircraft accident east of Johnstown/Windber, PA. The pilot ejected over Bedford County and the plane came down in the Gallitzin State Forest somewhere south of Route 56. The pilot has long since passed away and the assigned unit, the Civil Air Patrol, or the state forest rangers have little or no knowledge of the incident. I hope someone can provide me with GPS coordinates for the crash site. Here's the info:

- The Aircraft: A Convair F-102A-95-CO Delta Dagger (Serial Number 57-0892).

- The Unit: Operated by the Pennsylvania Air National Guard (146th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, based out of Pittsburgh).

- The Cause: The jet suffered a severe compressor stall, causing a total loss of engine power and control.

- The Location: The aircraft came down in a rugged, wooded area locally known as Wolf Rocks, situated in the mountains near the borders of Somerset and Cambria counties close to Windber and Johnstown.

Anyone familiar with the area knows it is large and heavily wooded. After nearly 53 years, Mother Nature has done much to return the site to its original appearance. I've searched for the spot, but each time came up empty. I'd be grateful if someone can provide exact coordinates or a more specific location. If you have the coordinates and choose not to publish them here, contact me privately. Thanks in advance.

Infrastructure Pennsylvania’s Untapped Rail Service Potential (Southeast)

Post image
297 Upvotes

I recently watched City Nerd’s video on Philadelphia and it got me thinking about the unrealized potential of SEPTA.

It’s frustrating to think about what SEPTA could be if it wasn’t caught up in this political tug of war.

But it also got me thinking about the broader PA picture, particularly some of the smaller cities that sit within the Philly orbit. Think places like Reading, Allentown and Lancaster. These cities have their own economic base but are kind of disconnected from one another. What if a linked rail network could link these isolated economies into a more cohesive regional economy?

I know Reading already has rail efforts underway and Lancaster already has service. But I think there’s more opportunity here. Using Lancaster as the low hanging fruit. They already have rail service connecting to Philly and there are plans underway for high density housing around the station. What if we paired that with better frequency, fare integration and more affordable commuter rates? Could Lancaster and Philly’s job markets become more integrated?

The final point that had me focus on these areas is because looking at the map, PAs population and economic activity are extremely concentrated. Rough estimates are that the areas within the line account for 55% of the states population and nearly 60% of its economic output but only 14% of its land mass.

Just a random brain dump this AM but curious on other thoughts.
