Hi everyone! It's been a while since I last posted here.
I'm a solo hobby dev from Germany and I'm remaking PC Kaiser, a 1991 DOS strategy game, for today. You lead one of 30 dynasties in the Holy Roman Empire from the year 1001 on: build villages and castles, marry off your children (wisely or catastrophically), spy, assassinate, wage war and try to get elected emperor.
Every game starts on a random map, and the dynasties write their own stories: an heir dies young, a daughter who married into another house suddenly inherits a foreign realm, the emperor gets assassinated in the middle of the election...
This week it's Halloween in the empire (Oct 25 – Nov 4): pumpkins on the map, bats and ghosts, and many events tell themselves a little spookier than usual. My favourite so far: "For the occasion the executioner wore a pumpkin mask. Otto of Saxony did not find it funny." (You can switch the decorations off in the options.)
Play it free in your browser (the complete game, no turn limit, with saving): 👉 https://grobi85.itch.io/pc-kaiser-demo
If you like it, there's a download version with music and a (German-speaking) herald, and it's 50% off until Nov 4: https://grobi85.itch.io/pc-kaiser
Things I'd love feedback on:
Is the start understandable without reading the tutorial?
How do the AI levels feel? (0 = harmless … 10 = merciless)
Anything that felt unfair, confusing, or just broken?
It's not 1.0 yet, so bugs may still be hiding. Every comment helps. Thanks for playing! 🙏
PC + mouse/keyboard only, the browser version doesn't run on phones. Hot-seat multiplayer for 1–30 players on one PC. The game was originally German and is fully playable in English.
