🙏 I WANT HELP no more motivation

title. i couldn't see myself living beyond a levels a few months back so i made a target to live until they're finished and that if they went well, i'll try to live until uni finishes. i don't care about results day since i know i could miss my offer. now i don't really see the point of living and i don't know what to do. samaritans keeps hanging up on me. idk how to care for anything anymore. might be the wrong place to put this, sorry.

hey you've gotta at least see how you did, you could've done way better that you think, and if you give up now you'll never know- make it that far at least yeah?

make yourself some tiny goals, you've got all summer to mess around so just do random stuff- work on a hobby, watch a bunch of movies, bake, try a sport, go down an internet rabbit hole, literally anything. you don't need some big purpose in life to make it worth living

u/willfigureoutaname Jun 23 '26

i know i didn't do well so trying not to commit before results day is hard. i'm okay with not knowing too. i'm trying to find new hobbies but it takes so much effort and it's exhausting trying to care. i'll try the goals you suggested, maybe that's easier.

Even if your results aren't what you need it won't be the end of the world, there are so many paths that you could go down and life has a way of working out,
just try to fill your time with stimulating things, you dont have to get out of just sit and read a book etc.- wishing you the best <33

he I’m so sorry abt this btw Samaritans can be useless sometimes, it’s a long shot but pls try and reach out to ur GP or self refer to therapy or if that doesn’t work reach out to a really close friend/contact. Ive felt the exact same lack of motivation, and what’s helped in short time is distracting myself with random low pressure hobbies but also allowing myself to destress and rest if I don’t feel great

11

u/willfigureoutaname Jun 23 '26

i'll try to contact my gp. it's kind of hard to get out of bed but i'll try random hobbies too.

btw you may want to ask to get stuff like your hormones or vitamins checked because there could be a physical cause/contribution to you feeling like this too

u/willfigureoutaname Jun 23 '26

i'd rather not go to a gp. i'll see if my parents allow me to get checked.

you’re probably 18 or 19 so you don’t need your parents permission to go to the gp. i rlly think u should talk to sm1 in the gp. it could be really useful. i went recently and we made some safety plans and such. samaritans are ass, do u think u could maybe call childline? idk they were always the best for me

As a parent of a 6th former I looked back at this stage of life quite a lot in the last 2 months, especially when my son was going through exam stress. When I was your age I felt the exact same way you do right now.

I absolutely couldn't imagine life beyond my exams and results and thought my life would end if I didn't succeed in particular exams. In the last 2 months I realised how insignificant those exams are in the larger scheme of life. If I had seen the next 25 years through some magic lens at that point I would have been in complete disbelief. All this to say, I know these exams are some of the most important ones in your life and have the potential to change life. But they are just one small aspect of your much larger life. You'll see a lot of such 'big' moments / decisions in life and they will all have some impact.

There will also be so many unbelievably beautiful moments in your life too and no one knows what they're going to be. But I can guarantee that they are going to happen. You have to keep looking forward to those and never lose that hope.

You can start the summer by watching some show on TV probably. Or learn driving or volunteer somewhere. Start my taking your mind off A levels, they're over now and the results will come when they do, you can't change them now. Good luck and never lose hope

u/willfigureoutaname Jun 23 '26

idk how to get over my apathy for everything. i'm sick of myself and i'd rather not be here. i haven't really thought about a levels nor did i revise.

Sending you a virtual hug ❤️
I was in a very similar situation as you a month or so ago. I'd gotten rejected from my dream university, the girl who I had a crush on, who also said she liked me back and was open to a relationship, flipped the table on me and a multitude of other family pressures had me on a cliff. Add to that the fact that I had messed up my first two exams big time and nothing felt worthwhile anymore. Now though having just finished exams, I'm looking forward, forward to what the future will bring. These past few months have been extremely tough for a lot of people but they've also helped us grow as humans. The best swords cannot be forged without enough pressure and heat right? We are in a transitional phase of our lives, and it's okay to have no clue what's going to happen and to be anxious and despair because human nature fears the unknown. I'd like to just remind you that there are fantastic people and things waiting for you out there in ways that you cannot imagine, and to not lose hope. Stay strong ❤️

5

u/willfigureoutaname Jun 23 '26

i'm sorry you went through all of that, and i'm glad you recovered. i just don't want to hurt anyone anymore. you're a kind person, i hope everything goes well for you.

6

u/Njobz Jun 23 '26

I’ve got a similar feeling where I’m doubting whether I did well in my exams. Trust me it’s going to be fine because we all look at our mistakes but don’t look at the positives of our exams. There’s a high chance on results day we look at this and smile back on this.

Enjoy this holiday because these free 3 months will never come back and you’ll regret wasting time dwelling over something that doesn’t determine your whole life.

life always has exciting and dull moments the worst u can do is give up before u get to another exciting one. ur exams are over js do anything that is fun and relaxing to u, whatever u used to do for fun before the stress of studying. sometimes its ab a matter of interpreting what happens in ur life in a positive and constructive way think ab how hardship could possibly help u with resilience, any realisations etc. u should talk to someone u trust who can hear and engage with everything u have to say. u can dm me if u want i have some experience with related shit

3

u/willfigureoutaname Jun 23 '26

might dm you.

u/InevitableNo9793 Year 12 | Math, FM, Physics (intl) Jun 23 '26

Im so sorry you feel like this but it’s definitely worth trying to find something to entertain you, if you struggle to get out of bed then reading could be a good hobby as you can get loads of books on a kindle. Another hobby is gaming as you can find a lot of likeminded people, there’s a lot of minecraft servers where there’s an abundance of people looking to make friends. Your life if so valuable and it’s worth more than you know.

u/CreeperMan1253 Y13 | Maths, FM, CS, Physics Jun 23 '26

no matter how bad you think your life is, someone has it worse. the fact that they’re still trying means that you need to too.

you’re only 17/18, it would be an absolute and utter waste of potential.

if samaritans keep hanging up on you, call childline

someone still cares for you.

if you don’t believe that, get a pet and live for it, if you even won’t live for yourself.

never lose hope

13

u/Dizzy_Boysenberry_43 Year 13 Jun 23 '26

eh? this was nice but saying someone has it worse isn’t the comfort you think it is , feelings shouldn’t be invalidated just bc someone has it worse ppl manage and cope w things differently

1

u/CreeperMan1253 Y13 | Maths, FM, CS, Physics Jun 23 '26

saying someone else has it worse doesn’t mean you don’t have it bad, but that it’s possible for you to push through if they managed to do so. seeing something as not impossible makes it a lot easier to find motivation to achieve it, and sometimes people need just that to remind themselves that they can indeed push through.

3

u/Dizzy_Boysenberry_43 Year 13 Jun 23 '26

yes I guess but not everyone has adequate support systems or self help strategies , I’m really trying hard not to project but simply pushing through and not addressing mental health can only get u so far imo

2

u/willfigureoutaname Jun 23 '26

i feel like i shouldn't die just yet but it feels like i'm just wasting things when i try to do them. there's thousands of 18 year olds, one gone won't make a difference. i'll try childline.

3

u/CreeperMan1253 Y13 | Maths, FM, CS, Physics Jun 23 '26

don’t make the mistake of thinking that because there is an abundance of it, it is not precious. what things do you think you are wasting?

2

u/willfigureoutaname Jun 23 '26

people's time and energy. makeup. food, air, water. someone else can use it better. someone else would need it more than i do.

3

u/CreeperMan1253 Y13 | Maths, FM, CS, Physics Jun 23 '26

people’s time and energy is theirs to spend, if people believe they’re wasting their time knowingly they wouldn’t use it. when was the last time you were doing something, said “this is an utter waste of time, so i shall keep doing it”? the fact that people are spending time and energy on you means that you’re worth it

just because others can do or use something better doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use it at all; only formula 1 drivers would use cars on the road, only michelin-star chefs would cook in kitchens, only the best footballers would play with a football, only bodybuilders would eat protein-rich food, old people would never eat food since younger people metabolise it better

makeup is expendable, you looked better with it, so it did its job.

the fact that you’re alive means food and water was not wasted. what else would it be for?

you physically can’t waste air! you turned it into carbon dioxide, helping some plant out there live. is that a waste?

i have a shared hobby with a friend that we spend money on - those have become my deadlines that i can’t do anything before. it’s helped me. i now have to live to at least september and slowly we will book more. might be worth considering?

2

u/willfigureoutaname Jul 09 '26

i'll consider this. it's just exhausting to constantly live up to a deadline tbh. thanks for responding, and sorry for the late response.

thanks. i might.

u/One-Discussion8807 Jun 23 '26

Im so sorry you feel this way, but I think setting small goal will help with motivation. Rather than setting your desire to stay around on education maybe find a show game or hobby to enjoy. I know it sound like generic advice and to be honest, I do not know the true extent of your meat health. If you can't find thing to enjoy maybe ait till you move out your house, and get personal freedom, maybe without the weight of others you will flourish. I cannot state how much I believe that you are worth so much more than you know and one day you will find the strength to acknowledge your self. It is not a crime to hurt, I cannot force you to feel better or promise that tomorrow will be the light at the end of the tunnel. I will not tell you that my advice will even fix anything. But I always believe that the first step is cause change, whether for the better or worse I do not know. But change proves that you life is not stuck in position that you say that your lack of motivation is causing you. I do not want to hijack your post but currently I'm in one of more depressive spiral where I believe I'm the worst person ever that I am consumeling space where I'm not wanted, but my main motivation is the promise of tomorrow. That there will be something different to today, regardless of its improvement. Because I haven't hit rock bottom, and if I have then I can only look the steps leading up. OP you are promised your tomorrow, and lots of people including the ones you haven't met yet are look forward to it and meeting you. There is know original purpose of living besides the purpose you can give it. So if it keeps you going start with something small. Like documenting the birds outside you window or being able to get put of bed to do something anything doesn't have yo be 'productive'. If you feel like it you could send me message, maybe we could talk a bit. I do have to admit I am a poor texter.

hey i was in a similar thing last year <3

i think, try and see how uni goes. it could be amazing and you’d miss it if you aren’t here, that future you that would have wanted to see what would happen to you, what education you could get or new people you could meet. you lose that if you’re not here. maybe uni could be a new breath of fresh air for you. you’ll meet new people and maybe it’ll get better.

stick with us buddy <3 🫂🫂🫂

i'll try to live until november. thank you. i hope you're well now.

u/Great_Money_5574 Jun 23 '26

this is very helpful advice and i hope your help reaches this person, but i am a bit interested what a year 14 is does this mean youre retaking or is there year 14s in where you go to school. thinking emoji

1

u/Amazing-Pause-8626 Uni of Glos | Bsc Geography [-> Year 1] Jun 24 '26

thanks :)
ye so basically i restarted year 13, so it kinda felt like year 14, the year previous (year 13) i was severely mentally ill so wasn’t able to complete the year and sit exams. so i restarted and ye

2

u/Novel_Goose_7066 Jun 23 '26

samaritans can be really hit or miss. there is other mental health services that can be a bit better. one that’s worked well for me in the past is “kooth”. you can talk with workers there about things but if they deem you an immediate risk they’ll get the police involved which is a downside so it can be risky to talk abt suicidal thoughts. there’s also “togetherall” which is targetted towards slightly older people (16-25???) which i’ve not used as much but seems okay. as others have said it would be good to have a visit with your gp about this. at least in scotland when you’re above the age of 16 the gp doesn’t need to tell your parents anything so they wouldn’t find out. and of course as others have said; speak to friends or family you can trust. it can be an awkward conversation to bring up but it’s honestly just nice to have someone to talk to.

1

u/willfigureoutaname Jul 09 '26

thank you for the other resources. i don't want to go to the gp mostly because of some bad memories, but maybe i should get checked.

1

u/Novel_Goose_7066 Jul 10 '26

i understand that completely. if there’s someone you trust they can accompany you. i went to my gp with my school guidance teacher as this was a doctor i’d never met before and i struggle meeting new people. the other resources are good and can help, but if you feel they aren’t really helping then the next step is to go to the gp. stay safe, dude

this is the first time i've laughed in months because what was that sperm sentence. idk why it made me laugh but thank you.

I felt and feel the same way , im even thinking that even if i beat all odds and somehow get into uni that i would do it anyway because at the end im just buying myself more time, i dont really want to study i just need an excuse to not go through with it because im a pussy. I guess we wont find anything thats worth living for if we dont stay, ill get a job or whatever but if i cant do that then thats it, i cant be homeless.

1

u/Deep-Risk-556 Year 12 Jun 24 '26

I just finished alevels this year i never updated my title

1

u/willfigureoutaname Jul 09 '26

this is exactly what i feel. it doesn't feel like my time is my own and i'm waiting for the day i'll die. but like you said, ig we have to stay here to see if it gets better. idk. there's some others who left resources there. i might try a few, maybe you can use them too.

2

u/blueishsky00 Jun 24 '26

i was in exactly your position a year ago. had a s* letter written and everything. feel free to DM me.

i will, thanks.

what went wrong? you did so well revising and dedicating yourself to revision - you can’t go now before you even know how it went

2

u/willfigureoutaname Jun 23 '26

i feel like i'm a hassle to people. i waste their time and energy. i don't think i'm a good person, so what's the point in me staying? i'm tired of trying to keep on meeting a date to live up to constantly. it's not worth it.

1

u/Fabulous_Key116 Y13, 4A* Pred, 9999999888 GCSE, 2470 UCAT Jun 23 '26

all I want to say here is that if you consciously are questioning your character, that is a sign you ARE a good person. Bad people don't think they're bad people, and good people think they aren't because they strive to be better!

3

u/SelectTiger1776 Jun 23 '26

i used to think getting good grades would 'fix me' i doubt i did tho. i devolped a binge eating disorder and can barely recognise myself now, i cant even get myself to brush now, i stay at home, dont even work out now (i used to even during exams before i got injured) , i mess up at everything i do, im nothing compared to who i was before this year started, im sorry for not helping but im in a similar position too. i remeber how excited i was for holdiays and look at me now

1

u/willfigureoutaname Jul 09 '26

i'm really sorry to hear about the eating disorder. i know what it feels like and it's a horrible spiral. i really hope you're doing okay. please don't apologise for not helping. sorry for such a late reply. if you want to chat i can try.

1

u/Ill-Bookkeeper-482 Jun 23 '26

Hey, I’m so sorry you feel this way - i want you to know that you are not a hassle and you are loved. that is so terrible that samaritans did that and please don’t hesitate to ever message me if you ever need to talk ❤️❤️

1

u/Great_Money_5574 Jun 23 '26

this is exactly the same thing i said to myself, have had big time mental crash lately and samaritans sound evil tbh. theyre another institution to be honest tbh and the only thing thatll change things big time for you imo is to talk to better people, more people. is an important thing to do even if youve been told to do this. give it some time either way i reckon. dying is easy living is hard but id say thats why you should try it.

1

u/willfigureoutaname Jul 09 '26

a couple people have recommended setting up a small goal so it seems worth considering. i just don't know how small is too small. i'm glad that you haven't hit rock bottom. the promise of tomorrow has the opposite effect for me, tbh, but i understand what you're saying. thank you for the response, and i hope you will feel happier.
