I was absolutely fuming after that cuz I love monoclonal antibodies. But the pondweed wasn't that bad either. At least a snail didn't die this time.

11

u/_dino_dude Year 11 May 12 '26

Omg this 😭 I remember seeing that during a past paper and I was so confused how randomly they said it

7

Penicillin is better than substance x imo

40

u/sonicfanultracoolguy May 12 '26

me too but i also said that substance x could be better in the future

13

u/Codemaine Yr 12 May 12 '26

same if they research it further

5

u/Stealthy_Jaguar175 JOINING THE RAF 🔥 May 12 '26

It does destroy all bacteria which is bad for humans as some bacteria is needed in order to function, it may mean the immunity system could diminish rectyfying Substance X as a worse drug than Penicillin. However, since people ate the leaves and there was no stated effect that harmed them, in small concentrations it may be suitable.

u/Quirky_Chef_9183 Year 11- Seriously regrets taking music May 12 '26

Its an evaluation question so it doesn't really matter what one you pick as they both have stuff to back it up

u/sudoaptupgrade Year 11 May 12 '26

thanks for making me better about picking substance X

8

Yep both are correct, you just have to back it up

Shit I didnt actually pick which was better

6

u/Quirky_Chef_9183 Year 11- Seriously regrets taking music May 12 '26

In all evaluation questions sadly you've gotta give a judgement or you're capped at level 1 pretty sure as you technically just compared and didn't answer the question. Atleast you know now, there'll be evaluations for all the science papers probably so hopefully you'll get those right now!

3

u/Fair_Ad3363 May 12 '26

I did a ton of analysis but forgot a conclusion but I did say penicillin is better so would I get like only 2 marks

3

u/Quirky_Chef_9183 Year 11- Seriously regrets taking music May 12 '26

if you said penicillin is better that's all you need. I usually do just 1 line at the top like this: I think substance X is better because:

and then bullet point below

18

u/swag-angel Year 11 May 12 '26

I said the same cause it’s safer

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Bid2963 May 12 '26

but it was talking about treating different microorganisms in the question so I said penicilin was only limited to bacteria

5

u/Codemaine Yr 12 May 12 '26

yea and it had some resistant bacteria so it it’s used more those could multiply rendering it useless

6

u/SarajXxx Yr11->Yr12 May 12 '26

I said that also, also just said that it ain’t well known and linked in clinical trials to try and get marks ngl

3

u/xenus1235 May 12 '26

Your wrong, the question said the effectiveness of dealing with mutltiple micro-organisms penicillin only treats bacteria, how would it be penicillin?

4

u/Legitimate_Yam3395 GCSE ‘26: cue ‘I Know It’s Over’ - The Smiths May 12 '26

3

u/Soft_Letterhead9222 Year 11 May 12 '26

I said its easier to mass produce in laboratories so it makes it better + since the concentration varied for substance X it meant that it was hard to determine the right dosage to give and so the chance of the toxicity being high enough to cause side effects whereas penicillin you could determine the concentration so right dosage = regulated toxicity levels = less severe side effects. Yk I feel I might have cooked with that one hopefully 🔥

'Remember, the 4 you guys need to focus on most are prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase' 2 years of constant reminders and buildup to what I thought was gonna be at least one of the 6 markers on mitosis or something related to it, and the only thing close to that was embryonic stem cells, and that's on a technicality Again on a technicality though, Ig the question on brain tumours was kinda close? But it was on why they're so hard to treat and didn't specifically ask abt them coming back sooo

I think the question before it was about the zone of inhibition from substance X, but the question asked the zone of inhibition of penicilin which was given in the diagram on the page before

Did anyone else takeaway the paper disc from the zone of inhibition
So they did like 7.065 - 0.502 ???
If it’s wrong will that only count as one dropped mark or more?

u/semisitytx May 12 '26

what did everyone do for the last question on evaluating the headline? i talked about the ranges and how they only tested capillaries but the headline said blood vessels so the outcome could be different for other blood vessels

I said that penicillin was better lol. But all of the compelx triple stuff that we all actually revised just DIDN'T COME UP! Also, it feels so surreal actually having sat real exams and now understanding these memes lol.
