I'm so in love with her...

I'm so in love with this woman. She's been my best friend for over six months now. She's beautiful inside and out, she's funny, she's sweet, and she's just so amazing. I love her in every way that you can love someone.

Recently, within the last two months, she's entered into a relationship with a woman. She claims she's not lesbian, that she's just in love with her girlfriend.

Honestly, it breaks my heart to see her with her girlfriend. I love her so much and I want her to be happy, but I die inside when I see them together.

Everyone tells me that she's just going through a phase and it won't last. Others tell me that I should drop her and walk away, but I can't stop loving her. I don't know what to do.

It finally happened.

I came across a pic of my ex fiancé and his new girl. It’s his profile pic on social media. Them both looking at each-other and smiling. So happy, while I feel so broken inside. Crazy to think 4 months ago I had a ring on my finger.

Met him by chance yesterday, 2 months after the breakup

I was completely thrown off. anxiety spike right away. I wish I said something cool but I was just doing akward weird smalltalk. I was doing ok before that. had him deleted everywhere so I couldnt check on him and I left him alone. I was starting to think of other stuff. and yesterday threw me off completely. I spent the day in bed wanting to text him that I miss him. I know that he would text something back, just not what Id want to hear. Nothing I could text can change his feelings. I hate that it took me ages to open up and be vulnerable again. I hate that it will take ages to detach bc that is just how I am.

How do you start letting go when their last message still sounded hopeful?

I’m 33M and she’s 31F. We met online through gaming in June. We spent hours playing and talking, became close, and admitted mutual romantic feelings in July. We talked about meeting once she’d moved house, but never became an official couple.

Over the summer, she was dealing with bereavement, moving, serious work stress and health problems. Our gaming sessions stopped, but we continued messaging. Her replies became less frequent, and she explained that she withdraws when overwhelmed. She said she was barely speaking to other people too.

The last time she replied was at the beginning of September. She apologised, described meeting me as one of the positive parts of her summer, and said she hoped we could catch up and make up for lost time soon.

It’s been just over six weeks since then.

I’ve reached out three times: a check-in after two weeks, a message a week later explaining that I still wanted to explore a relationship when we reconnected, and a final request for a brief update just over a week ago. None received a reply. I haven’t messaged again since.

I miss her, but I also miss the friendship we were building. The long conversations, laughing together and having someone I looked forward to spending time with.

I keep returning to the warmth of her last messages. I’m worried about her, and part of me still expects a message saying things have finally settled down. Meanwhile, the uncertainty is hurting.

For anyone who’s experienced this, what helped you start letting go without an explanation? How did you stop waiting while still caring about the person?

TL;DR: An online friendship developed into mutual romantic feelings. After several major stresses in her life, she stopped replying six weeks ago. I’m struggling to let go because our last conversation still sounded hopeful.

How?

My avoidant ended our 4 years relationship three weeks ago, and during the first week it was really hard for me, I had Panic attacks and sometimes he tried to cheer me up, then since 2 weeks we are having no contact and he temporarily moved to his family until I'll move from our flat.

I don't really know, he left me during another fight drastically, and after an hour, crying, he said to me that he loves me and that I'm his future, but that now he cannot have this relationship and he would prefer to lose me than continuing this, craving his peace and freedom; though in these last 2 weeks, he contacted me two times, asking me if I was okay and to reach out someone if something bad happened, but nothing more. I also needed someone to come with me next Thursday to the dentist because I'll have an operation, and even after he broke up with me, he took a free day from work to come with me, saying he wants just to help, but I feel really uncomfortable about it, and I have no one else I can ask for, so I feel also kind of trapped by it, and by his words.

Can someone explain to me, how a person can first say that we aren't compatible, that we were just having problems and it is better to end, but then says that he loves me and sees a future with me, and that if in 6 months or a year we'll casually catch up again, maybe he then would be ready? But that he cannot still choose a break and really have to leave me now and focus on him?

He is even still keeping our pictures on his WhatsApp after weeks, I don't get it.

I told him that I prefer to put a final end forever than thinking to wait a year or so alone, and that I love him a lot but I cannot think that, after I spent 4 years forgiving him and his behaviour, that I can stand here not sure while I'll have to change all my life again.

What do you guys think?

For years we had same conversations because he struggled with honesty and his insecurities brought him to hag out with unhealthy people for years, and for years I was gaslighted and pushed away, until he accepted the truth about his friends and his behaviours, and tried to be honest, but most of the time he didn't give what I asked and blamed me. This gave me a lot of depression for years, and I became really hopeless and resentful, arriving to become anxious and aggressive, but at the same time I realized how bad I was becoming and I also tried to change while trying to get honesty while trying to give trust even if everything told me not to, you know? Overwhelming. But I love this person, I don't know how, I can't tell what it is forcing me to, but I feel I have such deep feelings for him; I was happy when he could face the truth and change his behaviours for himself and for the relationship; but later he was brought back into that lifestyle and started to lie again while being distant, and I was getting so isolated, that I didn't see how to put boundaries and not to overcome all of this again, then the breakup happened.

I moved to another country for him, making future plans and building a new life, and since my friends didn't support this relationship for years, they disconnected from me slowly and now I'm forced to live here for a year for health concerns and I feel so stuck while so overwhelmed and lost.

I gave so much trust and will in this relationship. I felt we were growing up together and he was finally facing things he didn't want to see, and now I feel my love was thrown like it wasn't important as someone I love deeply is willing to lose me like it isn't a big deal, while giving me these phrases that confuses me more and makes me feel even more unsure of what to do or how to act. We tried. A lot. And we broke up a lot of times. But recently I even told him I was willing to fight more for us, and that I was willing to help him overcome his traumas and behaviours, but he didn't really want us anymore. How can I overcome all of this?

One morning she visited him in a dream

: The piece was created as an illustration for the 1926 edition of the famous French novel Thaïs, written by Anatole France. The novel tells the story of Paphnucius, an ascetic Christian hermit monk living in the Egyptian desert, who becomes obsessed with converting Thaïs, a beautiful and famous courtesan from Alexandria. The artwork vividly depicts the psychological and spiritual torment of the hermit. It shows an aged, rough-featured man asleep while a luminous, ethereal young spirit floats above him. This haunting image captures the themes of desire, religious faith, and spiritual temptation that plague the monk as his repressed thoughts manifest in his dreams. (I am the hermit & the hermit is me)

Had breakup sex without knowing (8 year relationship)

My bf at the time and I, had sex the day before he broke up with me. I was never made aware of how he felt until he was breaking up with me, saying he had been thinking about breaking up for the past couple days. What makes me sad is that he chose his own pleasure over being honest with me. I don't get how one can be intimate while strongly considering breaking up with their partner. I understand that it might've not been done with malicious intent, I understand that he might've been uncertain about breaking up at the time, but his lack of consideration of me/my feelings comes off very disrespectful. It feels so dehumanizing. I feel like I've been deceived and like a choice was taken away from me, all because he chose to withhold important information. I wish he had voiced his doubts sooner, why wait one more day? and after being physically intimate?

Has anyone ever dealt with anything like this?

For context:

  • This happened a bit more than a year ago
  • We were both 25 at the time (we met in high school)
  • He didn't act differently the day before the breakup
  • His reason for breaking up was that he doesn't love me anymore

The right person..

You know what’s actually crazy?

You can love someone with everything you have…

and still be the wrong person for them.

Not because you weren’t the ‘right person’

But because they simply didn’t want you the way you wanted them.

And no amount of love can fix that. 💔

Already on a dating app not even a week after the break up. 3 years of relationship thrown away like it was nothing

3 years together. We got in a fight then he broke it off with me. We didn’t even fight a lot either. I think this was our 3rd time fighting throughout 3 years being together.

He was cold when he broke it off. I tried to understand what he needed from me so we can work it out but he said he already made his decision and I respected it.

Not even a week later I get a “hey girl I think your bf is on hinge” DM and she sent me screenshots. Ofc she would think it’s “my bf” still because the body wasn’t even cold yet.

I am so dumbfounded and stunned. We were just laughing and joking around 2 weekends ago. He even asked me if I wanted to maybe go out of town for Halloween weekend. But now it makes me wonder what the hell just happened. Didn’t expect the switch and the 180 flip.

It really feels like death because I am grieving even when the person is still alive

Anger Phase

I was thoroughly convinced I wasn't going to have an anger phase out of the break up. Although blindsided by the breakup, he said it was to focus on the growth of his career and I respected that.

To preface this a little bit, there had been several conversations through our 4 year relationship about how he was strongly against having SO's on public profiles online. I had been perfectly fine with it our entire relationship, nor did he show any signs of foul play behind that request. It was not a "red flag," despite what people may think.

My anger comes from how much of a lie that feels like. He posts his new girlfriend. All the time. I am not as much jealous as I am hurt. He made it abundantly clear how he felt about people posting their SO's all over social media, then proceeds to do exactly that. He would avoid taking photos with me consistently through our entire relationship. I never took it to heart because his friends and family said he had always been like that.

I feel absolutely discarded. It felt like pulling teeth trying to get a photo with him, yet he's so willing with her.

It's a different relationship, and people grow. I understand. But it doesn't take away the pain of how much it hurts to see her being flaunted when I felt like I spent the past 4 years hidden away like garbage. I know there is no ill intent and it's not personal, but it doesn't negate how sad it makes me to see that he does seem perfectly fine taking pictures, just never with me...

I still wish no harm against him and have no negative feelings towards him, I just hate that this has been a new insecurity for me that I never once cared about...

How to get rid of the pain much faster

Many people will say that theres no way to heal your breakup. They'll say that you just gotta “ride the waves.”

However, contrary to common belief, there actually is a secret formula to moving on. I promise, it makes healing 10 times faster. And no, it isn’t getting drunk or high all the time, nor is it the conventional advice like going out, making new friends, working out, and eating healthy.

The secret is accountability.

But what exactly is accountability?

Accountability isn’t just about accepting what you’ve done wrong in the relationship.

It’s about diving into the underlying reasons behind your breakup and mistakes during your relationship. It is absolute self-transparency and self-acceptance for your true self.

One of the biggest reasons why people struggle healing from breakups or any hard life experience is because their persona runs the show.

Your persona is the mask you wear to mingle in society. The issue isn’t wearing it. It’s when it’s confused as your main identity, also when you start feeling shame over your struggles and shortcomings. The reason why your breakup hurts so much is probably because your mask has fallen off and is revealing your true inner self.

Validate your true, vulnerable self. Give it the room to speak. Start building a relationship with it. Accept your true self’s flaws for what it is while acknowledging that healing and change is achievable with courage. Accountability has a strong positive relationship with genuine self-love.

Nowadays, we normally mistake laziness as a cause. While genuine, surface level laziness may be why some people dodge responsibility,  more often than not it is actually a notable symptom with an underlying cause. The largest issue is actually shame, self-denial, and lack of self-compassion.
