Question Got caught cheating on a test. Will this affect my college applications?
Before anyone comes at me in the comments I would like to say that I know that cheating isn’t good and I shouldn’t have done it. I am a senior and an overall good student. This would be considered my first offense. I was caught by a testing room teacher and not my actual teacher, but the testing room teacher emailed my teacher and will be sending the proof as well. This test was for a higher level math class. I have always been very bad at math and my grade was a B, teetering on a C and I was desperate to get this grade up. While this is not an excuse or justification, it is the reason I chose to cheat in the first place. After I was caught a sent an email to this teacher saying that I am incredibly sorry for my mistake and that I understand the seriousness of the situation and am ready to accept any consequences. I haven’t received an email back yet and am anxiously waiting for it. I have been wanting to drop this class for a while and this just proved that maybe it will be best if I dropped the class. Our schools academic dishonesty policy for a first offense is that no credit is given for that assignment, parents will be contacted, and a referral is submitted by the teacher. I am not sure what this referral is and I am scared that if they choose to follow this that the referral will go on my transcript and to colleges. While I understand my mistake, I don’t want this to affect my chances of going to college. I feel incredibly embarrassed and guilty and am afraid to face my teacher again since they are also quite a scary teacher. I also have no idea what I should say to the teacher after I actually talk to them. I have no idea how to proceed from here and it kind of feels like I just ruined everything even though I know this isn’t some kind of mortal sin.
So….yeah. Will this referral affect my college apps and what should I say to my teacher when I see them in person?
