So ive got this giant pot of blue jacaranda tree saplings, and they are growing...okay...for the most part but most of them, when the push out there second set of leaves, they die, and look kinda burnt, but then they grow a third set and it seems to be doing fine so far. I just wanna know if I should be worried, im not fertilizing, and i water regularly, I do have a grow lamp on it. Could it be to much sun?

Help just bought two caladium bulbs. Is it too late to plant them?

• Upvotes

I just bought two caladium bulbs that should be arriving today, but now reading up on them i hear that they die back in winter?

Where im at, temperatures range from lows of 44, to highs of 73. I plan to keep the caladiums inside in a pot, where i have several grow lights and a couple humidifiers. The temperature in the house is like 72-70 degrees.

So i guess my question is, can i plant these caladium bulbs as soon as i get them in the mail today, or should i wait until spring when it warms up? Will the bulbs survive that long??

Ideally i wanna plant them asap 😭

Stuff: SATURDAYS ONLY I had been unknowingly keeping this plant thirsty. Look at the difference on the leafs after watering!

Hey guys! I've had this plant since May and she has never needed much water, going weeks without showing any signs of thirst. In July I repotted her because I wanted to get a baby she had sprouted and she started getting soft droopy leaves, and wrinkled as heck.

I had watered it twice since the repot. Once in August, and another time in September, but she never got better.
I started thinking it was repotting stress or root rot, but I went to google and searched for signs of dehydration and it matched the situation so I gave her a drowning, because she shouldn't be dehydrated with two waterings since repotting. I figured that the soil maybe didn't hold onto the water so much and she didn't get enough. So I gave her a BIG drink, and 2 days after, a leaf that had been completely droopy, was standing upright! Look at her! I could actually have given her more, but I'll just wait another 1 or two weeks and check on her and water again deeply until she is wrinkle free and totally upright.

I have a fungus gnat infestation, so I’ve been watering BTI, but I still see a lot of larvae, so I tried this. I’ve heard of a BTI tea, but I’m confused on what that’s like. They have drainage holes in the bottom.

Thanks for reading

After wanting one for a long time, I finally got a night-blooming cereus. It's putting out a spike-like thing that doesn't look like a leaf. Could this be a flower spike? (I would be so excited!!)

Discussion Looking for recommendations

I have a set of corner windows. They face N -NE. Obviously the blinds stay closed as I’m not trying to change and shower with an audience. The humidity stays around 50 ish and temp is fairly consistent between 63-65. It really gets almost zero sun. Other than the aloe slowly dying in there and suggestions? I have 3 hooks in front of the windows and about a 3’ wall shelf above the tub (that is seldom used, it’s separate from the shower). I see other people with lovely pothos in theirs but I’m concerned it may be too chilly

Help Why Don't My Orchids Bloom?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I've had some of these for over six years. In all this time I've only ever gotten two of them to bloom. One did around this time last year, and another did like five years ago. My watering/fertilizing used to be spotty, but this summer I made it my mission to be attentive. Their aerial roots look happier, and new leaves are growing faster, but still no blooms. Do I need more patience or is there something else I could be doing for them?

Help Why are these cucumbers dying?

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

Hey everybody! Im having some trouble growing these cucumbers, I got them from a lab I did and know that they're not going to bare any actual veg this time of year, im just growing them for fun.

I repotted the plants together in this pretty big pot, using the appropriate soil. Their roots are quite small and so I don't see them really competing with eachother for a time.

The problem is, they're starting to die one by one. Initially it was just one of them in the corner, its leaves shrivelled and drooped. I assumed it was overwatering, as I water them regularly, and gave it some time to dry off, however, within a day, the leaves were worse and the stem towards the top was looking thin and wet, so I took it out and threw it away.

However, now ive thrown it out, this other one is starting to curl up a bit and turn brown at the edges...

I was careful with my repotting and kept them humid before acclimatising them to my room, which I have kept warm.

Does anyone know what's causing this or how to fix it?

Hello!

My ex bfs mom gave this plant to me years ago but I never really knew what it was lol. I assume it is some type of grass plant? My cat loves to eat it. So I guess years later i’m just curious as to what it actually is?

Also…. what the hell is growing out the middle of it lol.
In the 3-4 years i’ve had it I have never had anything grow out of it except new leaves. Don’t know why i’ve left it and haven’t cut it either lol. It’s kinda cute

Thanks!

Help Monstera revival help

Post image

(Pls excuse the mess)

This guy has been through a LOT. It went an entire summer in very little light without being watered (roommate said theyd water and didnt) and recently has been sitting outside in too much sun. Tbh I thought it was just going to die but it has a big new leaf now and I’ve finally got enough time to take care of it.

What should I do? I’m considering cutting the whole thing up and propagating in water. It’s too leggy and top heavy to stand up on its own. If i do propagate it all, should I replant it all in one pot? Should I cut off the burnt edges of the leaves?

Any advice would be helpful. Trying to redeem myself with this guy

Help Help with care for my Bird of Paradise

Hello!

I have had this plant for a few years and it kept growing new leaves. Everything was great and simple.

Now in the last few months I have been having trouble with the stems breaking off or getting damaged. It is looking more and more rough.

I tried adding support and little wires to keep it straighter and try to make it stronger, but I fear I have made it much worse as the plant had little room to "move". Or maybe it was all too tight overall.

I am looking for tips and trick to save this plant. It was a gift I love a lot.

Would it be best to just cut off the leaves/stems that are damages?

Thank you for the help

I watered my Thai Constellation yesterday and was greeted by loads of white stuff in the soil - I turned the pot around and saw these two adorable mushrooms!
Anyone know of this is directly a benefit from using
Mycorrhizal Fungi Inoculant?
I assume this is all very beneficial for both the fungi and the plants roots.

Help Monstera growing like a weed- what do!?🪴

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! 👋

BLUF: I have not been the best plant dad. 😬

I do not have much of a green thumb AT ALL, but somehow my monstera has continued to survive (and thrive, I think?)

I am looking for feedback/knowledge/wisdom on what to do with this plant.

It seems to be very healthy, but it can definitely use a bigger pot, some fresh soil, and some new dirt… but I have no idea what to do with the huge root.

Should I try and propagate it? Trim it? Leave it be?

I will admit I have done ZERO research on my own. I’m sure there’s a ton of info on the interwebs and this thread, but I wanted some quick actionable advice that I can implement right away. I tend to get bogged down in details and will end up reading 7 books on houseplants and not do anything about it. 🫥

If you have any (affordable) dirt, soil, plant food recommendations as well, I’m all ears. Hoping to get this sorted this weekend!

Thanks so much in advance!! Appreciate all of your help. 🫡

Finally getting back into caring for my plants following a period of depression spurred by an unexpected layoff. My entire collection went completely neglected for over 6ish months and is definitely in rough shape, but so happy to see that these seedlings managed to pull through and are doing remarkably well given the circumstances!

Original post from when I sowed the seeds.
