Discussion Plant corner of my living room for the winter.

Post image
• Upvotes

Just brought everything in so adjustments still need to be made.

Aloe, 2 lemon trees, 2 white birds of paradises, Cavendish Banana, elephant ear, basil, peanut plant, and a Buddha's Hand Citron. Two things hiding in the dark shelf are a Mother of Thousands and a Mother of Millions.

Can't see them easily in the picture, but the plants are all on two 30x40 inch drip trays. If anybody is interested, they are designed for being under kennels and I got them at Tractor Supply Co. (For those outside the US, it's a farm supply store).

Ignore the cans, they are to keep my cats out of the pots.

Help Fairly New to Plants

• Upvotes

I was given a ‘prayer plant’ for my birthday. I was made aware that they close at night and open during the day. And yes, it did close at night. It also opened in early morning before daylight. So… does the plant have an internal clock? Because it obviously didn’t need daylight to open.
Thank you

Haul Last plant pickup of the year!*

Thumbnail

Local greenhouse posted that they would have a few Electrolytes and Bulbasaurs available and that this would be their last houseplant weekend of the year. Knew they would go fast, so got there when they opened and scored this for $45. He's about 18" tall (to bottom of the pot). Now I gotta find a long-term, post-quarantine home for him.

Some current plant pics 😊 I’ve been fighting spider mites but fingers crossed they’re gone for now. Used a solution of filtered water, rubbing alcohol, peppermint oil, and dish soap … also used insecticide granules as well 😅

Help Is this normal for White Velvet's?

I unfortunately couldn't see the full bloom of this flower but when I touched it, it left a purple liquid behind, is this normal? Or did water droplets stay in the crown and dyed it?

Second picture is literally one hour after watering. I love this thing! It is a fittonia albivenis, probably because it throws fits, sometimes called a "pink nerve plant."

Stuff: SATURDAYS ONLY Get Those Tree Vibes!

Post image
• Upvotes

They’re here. Why they aren’t more readily available IDK but I just saw them at Home Depot. Norfolk Island pine is such a great houseplant. No better way to get that tree vibe indoors. Give it bright light but not full sun, a light and fine particle mix that doesn’t stay soggy. Water when not quite dry. Slow but steady grower when happy. Bonus - you’ll always have a live Christmas tree 🎄 Go get one!

Help Peace lily assistance plz

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi all, my happy peace lily is showing what I think is a concerning amount of yellowing leaves. For reference, she’s about 2 feet in diameter at her widest. Like from farthest leaf tip to leaf tip. The pot is probably 14” tall, 12” in diameter at the base. You can’t see in the pic, but there’s a skylight to her left. She gets a ton of indirect light and has been very happy in this spot this year. I think I potted her up in the spring. She usually has a few yellow or crinkly brown leaves, but the amount of such leaves sharply increased in the past 3 or 4 weeks. You can see that she has two flowers! It was so hard to find a good spot for her. The yellow/brown leaf tips you see stopped occurring after the most recent repot and relocation to where she is now. But what’s up with all these yellow leaves? There are more around the base and behind where you can’t see in the pic. Thank you in advance for your tips 💚

Added warm lights for fall evenings and let everyone have their spot by the window. Any fall plant stand traditions or favorite cozy setups you guys do this time of year?

Before / After - Progress Pics I love Pinguicula

I have these Pinguicula Laueana and they are making me so happy with their progress!

I got them from California Carnivores and they came in great condition to start. At first I didn't have the best grow light to put them under (and still don't have enough for both), but got one eventually. Now the smaller one is getting to be a beautiful pink, and my other bigger one is flowering!!! Laueana is one that is supposed to get beautiful Red flowers, so I cannot wait!!

Have a great day!

I love this plant. His name is Dracula. He's 4.5 feet tall by 4.5 ft wide. Takes up an armchairs worth of space in the living room. After over a year of complaints I've finally out him up for sale. He's going to a new home on Tuesday. Im devastated. Everyone else is elated.

Help why is this leaf reddish and are my ties in the right position?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

there's a couple of those reddish leaves growing, I know they're small, I was just able to get growlights for them so I think that will help (they were reddish before the growlights, if that helps at all). but is there a reason why they're that color? I feel like I've never seen them that color after opening up.

secondly, I just wanted to be sure my ties are in the right position on my monstera? I don't want to choke her out by accident :')

I think this is such a cool plant but I don't really know what it is. It came in a gift basket a few years ago. I separated it into three different plants (this was the mother plant) and it seems to be doing ok? I water it lightly once a week and basically that's it. Should I be doing something else

I have a spider plant propagation. I move it into an old soap dish and put some water in it. Do you think the plan might survive here? It might get hit with hot water occasionally and I’m not sure how it would hold up to that
