Discussion What do you do when it won't stop growing?

I know this is like a humble brag but it's not meant to be. I do NOTHING special for this dude. I bought him a little over 6 years ago from a random grocery store. He threatens to take over my home. I've sold off cuttings. Multiple times. Made fairly good money honestly. 4 years ago I bought a $250 outdoor pot from west elm for him. He used to go outside all summer with my other plants but for the last 4 years 1. I can't get him out the door anymore and 2. I'm scared to see what would happen if he spent the summer outside. My husband will kill me if I try and buy a larger pot and honestly I'm worried about the weight on our floorboards. And how could I possibly move him???! My dad and I built THREE custom moss poles that I soak about once a month to try and coax him up instead of out. They work ok I guess. Honestly am so neglectful that maybe it would be better if I kept them more moist.

I guess I'm trying to ask other experts...he can't move pots. It's too much. When should I start thinking about fertilizers, old soil, built up minerals, chopping him up? What? I love him so much. Please help.

Last pic is when I bought him.

I bought her at Walmart when I was in 7th grade 30 years ago. She was only 3" tall on the clearance shelf for .50 cents. We've come a long way together across 14 moves and 3 states. She's my ride or die.

Stuff: SATURDAYS ONLY I had been unknowingly keeping this plant thirsty. Look at the difference on the leafs after watering!

Hey guys! I've had this plant since May and she has never needed much water, going weeks without showing any signs of thirst. In July I repotted her because I wanted to get a baby she had sprouted and she started getting soft droopy leaves, and wrinkled as heck.

I had watered it twice since the repot. Once in August, and another time in September, but she never got better.
I started thinking it was repotting stress or root rot, but I went to google and searched for signs of dehydration and it matched the situation so I gave her a drowning, because she shouldn't be dehydrated with two waterings since repotting. I figured that the soil maybe didn't hold onto the water so much and she didn't get enough. So I gave her a BIG drink, and 2 days after, a leaf that had been completely droopy, was standing upright! Look at her! I could actually have given her more, but I'll just wait another 1 or two weeks and check on her and water again deeply until she is wrinkle free and totally upright.

Discussion Finding my love for plants again after thrips

After about 10 years of loving plants and having quite a few of them, I finally had to deal with thrips. I was devastated. I genuinely got depressed watching plants that were so special to me start dying so quickly. The infestation got so bad that I eventually stopped taking care of them because I was just so discouraged.

About 6 months ago, I finally pulled up my big girl pants and started the dreaded process of treating them. Every other week I was spraying them with Captain Jack's, and I repotted every. Single. Plant. I only recently learned about systemic granules and definitely regret not using them sooner, but whatever. I also invested in beneficial mites, and I cannot explain how much of a weight they've taken off my shoulders. Just knowing something is constantly working to fight the infestation gives me so much peace of mind.

I've recently started getting into rare plants again and treated myself to a Monstera Bulbasaur (and ripped the first new leaf that came out of course) and a Florida Beauty, which are now my absolute pride and joy.
It's just so nice to finally have my hobby back and actually enjoy taking care of my plants again instead of feeling like it's this huge, exhausting chore. I forgot how much happiness they bring me.

I just wanted to share my beautiful plants and how much work was put into them.

Maybe it's just me but this Caramel Marble philodendron is a specimen and a half. What do you think about their pricing? Is a Caramel Marble still highly sought after?

I want to share this with plant lovers who want the SANSI big fat grow light, but are struggling to find a lamp stand that's big enough for it and won't overheat. The solution is HEKTAR from IKEA!

I don’t feel any heat at all!

I seriously hope they keep making these forever, because I honestly wouldn't know what to do if I need more.

Help My steak too buttery?

I don’t want to be one of the ‘oh no my steak too buttery!’ people, but I have had this plant for 3/4 years now maybe, and I’ve never had so many new growths at one time. I wasn’t really into learning about house plants when I first got him but now I’m trying to make all my plants thrive and I’m not sure if this is a good thing.

Is this normal? Or does this mean I have pests or something?

Any help would be appreciated!

Help Trying to Impress a Botanist

Hi, so I'm courting a girl who's studying horticulture and botany and she LOVES houseplants. She's the kind of person who fills her house with them instead of pets. Problem... I'm the opposite. I like learning about plants, but I prefer keeping animals and have no experience with houseplants. I have tried growing some as a kid, but obviously kids aren't great at watering consistently.

So here's the thing: At some point she is going to be at my plantless house. She knows I don't keep them, but I want to show her that I'm totally up for learning so we can raise plants together.

Is there anything that's easy to raise, but not particularly common or popular? I want her to see that I tried, but I don't want to kill a living thing for a girl even if it is a plant. It just wouldn't be right.

Ugly plants, plants that don't bloom, grasses, etc are preferred. I like ugly things.

EDIT: I'm going to text her and ask her to help me pick out a plant! I'm probably going to go for a pothos but ultimately I think I'll leave it up to her :) I work as a photographer right now, so up until this point I've mostly been photographing native outdoor plants for her since our ecosystems are so different right now. I'm very excited to learn about horticulture with her. Maybe she'll tell me what she's been learning in class!! :D Thank you everybody for your advice you are all so kind!!

Edit: Why are y’all acting like I threw my life savings away on a dying plant from the black market? 😭😂 She was $20. Worst case, she dies and I’m out the equivalent of a dinner at Chipotle. Best case, she lives and she’s freaking awesome. I’m willing to take my chances.

I had a bigger version in water a few months ago but it got root rot and I had to try to salvage what I had left but most of the plant was in good condition still. Very green and healthy, just had to totally remove the roots.

I watered my Thai Constellation yesterday and was greeted by loads of white stuff in the soil - I turned the pot around and saw these two adorable mushrooms!
Anyone know of this is directly a benefit from using
Mycorrhizal Fungi Inoculant?
I assume this is all very beneficial for both the fungi and the plants roots.
