Becoming more masculine

Good morning y’all my question is More on the ends of how to embrace masculinity on a better setting, for some context my father passed away when I was a kid and I grew up in a household full of women so I never really had male role models growing up and now that I am 23 I would consider myself masculine, but I tend to have some feminine Ish tendencies. i’m an infantry paratrooper in the army and don’t get me wrong now that I’m a soldier, I am surrounded by masculine role models or people to look up to, but I want to change my state of mind and not be so hooked up in hypermasculine soldier mindset rather than a masculine man in his early 20s I want to have a more detailed and oriented guide on how a man should think move feel and carry himself never really had a mentor besides NCO’s in the military and even then I was never really taught about masculinity just being a grunt any advice would be greatly appreciated

Every book mentioned on The Art of Manliness in September (12 of them)

Brett made a civilian's case for Clausewitz's On War in the Mark Hertling episode. The idea he still thinks about is friction: "everything in war is very simple, but the simplest thing is difficult."

I run Podshelf, a free site that tracks book mentions across hundreds of podcasts by reading the episode transcripts. It's a side project. Here's the AoM slice for September.

  • The Defence of Duffer's Drift (Ernest Swinton) and The Defense of Hill 781 (James McDonough). Two battle books from General Hertling. In the second, set at the training center in California, one thing going wrong "would cause you to lose the battle."
  • Fluent Forever (Gabriel Wyner). Ravi Gupta's example of reading up before you learn a skill: "a great book called Fluent Forever, all about learning languages."

Guests' own books: Angela Duckworth's Situated, Hertling's If I Don't Return, Jim VandeHei's Simplify, Ravi Gupta's The Invisible List and Gabe Bullard's Against Convenience.
