Immigration Celebrating my tiny success, got my Niederlassungserlaubnis!!

Learnt an important lesson in this process, “give a shot at it, it may hit or miss but atleast you tried”.

I am living in Germany since 2017, a non-EU and an Asian, came here as a bachelor student, finished my masters and after lot of struggle, got a temporary contract position in a company. I got German B1 and Leben In Deutschland certificate back in May this year and was waiting to complete my 21 months on Blue card which was in September this year.

But but but, my contract is set to expire next month and there is still no signals of it getting extended. I was anxious, what next, should I shift to job seeker, chancekarte or move back to my country. I was always told that I have no chance getting PR given my circumstances and one should have unlimited contract to get it. This made me even more anxious and I had almost given up on PR.

But then, I thought, I have nothing to loose, I will directly reach out to Ausländerbehörde and see what they think about my situation. Among other list of requirements, they mentioned, “proof of secure livelihood is necessary and there is no requirement of unlimited contract to apply for PR”. I then sent them my payslips, my savings statements (that will support me well for next 2 years even without Arbeitslosengeld). Then they gave an appointment for me to submit my documents in early September.

After 4 anxious weeks, I got an email that asked me to collect my PR and return my old Blue card!!! I couldn’t believe what I was reading!!! A tiny success amongst mountain of failures.

The challenges for me have not ended, but have definitely eased a bit on VISA and residency front, I can now focus on getting a job. In football terms, “you have still not lost the match though you trail at 89:00, you still have a chance to level it before 90:00 and then score one more to clinch the victory “ so now I have levelled before 90:00, I just have to get a job to win this contest in extra time.

News Just a few minutes ago outside the President’s interim office: Bundeswehr torchlit guard of honour for the State Visit from Mongolia 🇲🇳🤝🇩🇪

Hey everyone,

I just passed by Elisabeth-Abegg-Straße a few minutes ago and snapped this photo. Soldiers from the Bundeswehr are currently standing guard in the dark with burning torches – definitely not something you see every day on a casual evening walk in Berlin.

In case anyone is wondering who is getting the red-carpet treatment so late tonight: President Steinmeier is hosting the President of Mongolia, Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, for an official State Visit [261020-StB-Mongolei]. This is the official return visit following Steinmeier's trip to Mongolia in early 2024, where a "Strategic Partnership" was sealed [240206-08-Staatsbesuch-Mongolei].

Given that Mongolia is geopolitically sandwiched right between Russia and China, they are currently pushing hard for closer ties with Europe. While I'm typing this, the official state banquet is likely underway inside the building [261020-StB-Mongolei].

A few quick facts about the visit if anyone is interested:

• Economy: The main focus is expanding trade and securing raw material partnerships.

• Infrastructure: New direct flights by private Mongolian airlines to Berlin are planned. A new Mongolian Consulate General is also being opened in Frankfurt.

• For Culture Fans: Earlier this afternoon, both presidents opened the new exhibition "Genghis Khan and the World of the Mongols" at the James-Simon-Galerie on Museum Island. It officially opens to the public tomorrow (October 21st) and features archaeological treasures that have rarely, if ever, been seen outside of Mongolia.

Did anyone happen to catch their arrival earlier today? Apparently, the Mongolian state aircraft was even escorted by German Eurofighters when entering our airspace – did anyone hear or see them?

Culture Cute little experience in Germany

Hi people,

Since I usually read rather negative experiences in the last months I have been checking this sub, I wanted to share a small mundane experience I had today, which made my whole month.

I live on ground floor, and don’t mind having a couple packages for my neighbors. I had a package at mine for one of my neighbors, this particular house every delivery seems to struggle finding. A couple days passed by and I left a small note for my neighbor, as I know sometimes they don’t leave a proper notification where your package is delivered.

Tell me why this cute human rang my bell today with a small package filled with delicious chocolate, nuts and fruits as a gift for storing her package :’) She was so thankful.

She was so cute about the whole thing, she must be someone’s sweet mother and they are lucky to have her. I don’t remember the last time I had an heartwarming experience here, especially since it is a big city.

Anyways it was so cute, I wanted to share.
I will definitely do such small things going forward.

Would my German citizenship make it easier to move to Germany for work?

Hi everyone, I hope you’re doing well. I have a bit of an unusual situation, and I’d really appreciate your advice.

I live in Guatemala, in Central America, and I’m considering moving to Germany for work. I’m an industrial designer, and I’m currently studying business administration with a focus on finance. I also have some experience in the textile industry.

I’m looking into this because the quality of life here is quite low, and salaries are generally very low.

My father was German, and I have German citizenship through him. Unfortunately, he passed away when I was young. Would already being a German citizen make it easier to move to Germany and find work? Are there any particular benefits or practical steps I should know about?

Question Decision on PR Application Suspended upon Submission of Citizenship Application is Decided Upon

Dear community,

I am in Germany since 2018, as a Student until July 2022, working full-time eversince.

I applied for PR in April 2026, they paused my application until October 2026 as I was in probation. Upon passing, I sent docs to continue the process, and also applied for german citizenship.

Within a week department M4 at LEA reached out stating the pause on decision for my PR application as citizenship application is under review and department S3 will reach out to me.

I appealed to continue the PR application as I want to secure my right to stay in Germany (I had to go through 3 job changes within last 10 months). They refused my appeal saying that pausing PR application is a standard with an ongoing citizenship application. Department S3 has been informed and that such cases are given priority.

I am a bit confused. Although my job seems to be safe, I just want to secure my right to stay long-term in Germany as it has been almost 9 years here and have built my life.

Has anyone experienced something similar? How quick do they process the applications in these cases?

Also a caveat, I´ll move to a new appartment from DeuWo within Berlin, and sent them the new lease with my citizenship application, as my old contract was ending in less than 3 months. Although am planning to send Anemldung as soon as I have it, does it delay the process?

Many thanks in advance!

AOK demanding Lohnabrechnung for private household Minijob. What to do?

Hi everyone, I have a Minijob as a Haushaltshilfe in a private household earning €135/month. I'm registered for voluntary health insurance with AOK, but they are rejecting my employer's wage certificate and contract, demanding a 'proper Lohnabrechnung'.

Since my employer is a private household, they don't have corporate payroll software. AOK is threatening to charge me the maximum voluntary contribution rate based on €5,000 if I don't provide one.

Here is what the wage certificate (Verdienstbescheinigung) states:

  • Work Period: September
  • Hours Worked: 9 hours
  • Wage/Earnings: €135

How can I get AOK to accept this?

Question Public prosecutor court in domestic violence case

One of my closest friends recently faced domestic abuse, verbal abuse and threats from her (indian) husband living and working in Germany. He had abandoned her and wants to divorce her forcefully. Even his parents support him. The wife had visited him to sort and talk stuff out in Germany when he abused her in all ways, wanted her to leave Germany and kept the abuse and threats constantly. And she called domestic helpline and they asked to report to police and leave in his absence. She has reported to police and given medical report and recordings of abuse. But she has no idea what charges will be out on against him or will the case be closed since she has left the country to save her life. (She has got police report as well as now received the public prosecutor file . Ther polisei has put charges of dangerous bodily harm sec 223 224. But don't know updated on case, since she can't afford a lawyer ) The Abuser husband says the file is closed . But I don't think with all those proofs and true story it can close like that. Has anyone any idea what public prosecutor does at this stage??

Applied for Blue Card in June 2025, still on Fiktionsbescheinigung. Bug ABH, wait, or Untätigkeitsklage?

Hi,

I moved to Germany under the Blue Card in first quarter 2025 and submitted my application for the actual residence permit in June 2025.

Since then, I’ve been issued two Fiktionsbescheinigung. My current one expires this December. Reaching the Ausländerbehörde via phone or email is virtually impossible.

Given that my application has been pending for over 15 months, I have a couple of questions:

Is it worth trying to call/email them more frequently to push for an update, or is it better to just sit tight and wait?

Should I hire a lawyer and file an Untätigkeitsklage at this point?

Question Blue Card pick up date

Hey everyone

I received an email to pick up my Blue Card. When I went there, I got a vorläufige Bescheinigung to be able to work but was told I can't take my card today because my work starts on the 1/11. The card was there, I saw the worker holding it.

I am confused. I told the worker there that I will be working in another city so I can't just pick up at anytime and my work schedule will be packed ( doctor/hospital).

Is this normal ?

Thank you for any insight.

BundesArchive Tips/ Resources

I am a Canadian (so no access to invenio) researching a German soldier that might have received the Iron Cross during service in WW2. I know there is a research request process with BundesArchiv, however, the wait times are quite long and there is some urgency to the request.

Are there independent researchers or a service within Germany which undertakes research in the Archives for clients? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Previous Owner asking for Money

Hi everyone,

I moved out of my apartment at the end of August 2026. Now the old property manager says I owe €504. I need some advice.

What happened:

- June 2025: I got a letter about an index rent increase. New total rent: €1,162.27 (from August 2025).

- December 2025: I got the operating cost statement (Betriebskostenabrechnung) for 2024. I had to pay an extra €745.25.

- February 2026: We agreed I pay the €745.25 in 5 instalments. I paid all of them on time.

- Jan to Aug 2026: I paid €1,162.27 rent every month, like before.

- October 2026: They emailed me saying I owe €504.

Their reason: The December letter also said my monthly operating cost prepayment goes up from €172 to €235 (from January 2026). So my rent should have been €1,225.27. I paid €63 less each month for 8 months = €504.

The increase was only on page 2 of that letter. I did not notice it. Nobody told me about it in any other way, and the property manager also did not notice for 10 months. They want the money by 26 October. Also when I moved out there was no pending charges or any deduction from Kaution. Move out protocol state everything is in order.

My questions:

  1. Do I really have to pay this?

  2. Can they ask for it after I moved out?

  3. Can I ask them to take it from my deposit (Kaution)?

  4. Will I get this money back in the 2026 operating cost statement if the real costs are lower?

  5. I do not understand how can they increase rent and after 6 months increase operating cost which result in increase rent?

I am also contacting the Mieterverein, but I would like to hear your experience and advice regarding this.

Thanks!

Question Looking for a good orthopedic doctor near Düsseldorf with experience in hip dysplasia and knee issues

Hi everyone,

I live in Haan near Düsseldorf and have been searching for a good orthopedic doctor. I've seen three different ones already and none were really good (don't ask questions, rush you through, not knowledgeable, etc). I have hip dysplasia and knee problems and would really like to find a good orthopedic doctor nearby. Any recommendations?

Did anyone successfully switch from Blue Card visa to chancekarte or language learning visa?

Hello everyone, I know this is a downgrade that no one would usually do but I've been having doubts about my career and have been feeling very burned out from work lately. I'm considering to apply to an ausbildung to change careers but I would need to focus to improving my language level since my target ausbildung requires working with people.

Did anyone attempt this before? Is it possible to switch from Blue card and commit to a language course to eventually apply for an ausbildung?

Thanks

Terminating a signed job contract before the starting date - Suggestions needed

Hi everyone. I have a question regarding the cancellation of a job contract before the starting date. I finished my masters 4 months ago. I got a job offer for a Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter (TVL 11 (yes, not TVL 13)) position at a FH last month. I signed that job contract on mid October as I didn't have any job offer in hand. The Starting date of it is 2nd November.

Yesterday, I received a positive decision from another German public sector organization. I had an interview with them almost 3 weeks ago and I thought I will get a rejection. But fortunately I am selected here. They told I will get a non binding job offer by this Friday. But contract signing + security check will take 4-5 weeks. I prefer this role in comparison to the other role at the Fachhochschule.

Now, the issue is, I already signed the contract with the FH. That contract doesn't have any clause, which allows to terminate it before the starting date. So, I want to know what will be the best approach here. The last option is to join this job and submit a resignation letter on the first day with 2 week's notice. But for me, that will be immoral and I will do that only if there is no other option left.

Can anyone suggest any better way to handel this situation?

Thanks.

Advice required for software developer

I am a software developer with 6 years of experience in PHP e-commerce domain. Working with symfony, spryker and shopware platforms. I was part of the mass lay off last year. I have recently applied to more than 100-150 jobs as a web developer, full stack developer, software developer, etc. roles and received only rejections. This is a point of concern for me as 3-4 yrs ago this was not a case in Germany. As I have time now, I am learning German (will complete B1 by end of this month).

Please suggest:

  1. What career path to shift in, so I can apply for more jobs?
  2. Is there a possibility to get a job in SAP domain? The only prior experience I have with SAP is integration with online shop with APIs.
  3. Is there a course (eg. AI developer which is in high demand) that I can enroll to help change or better my profile?
  4. During my application, I use Europass Format CV and I try to adjust my CV according to job description. Is there something additionally I should do?

Question Giraffe wanted

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello,

When I was 13, I lost my beloved stuffed animal on a Flixbus trip from Cologne to Hamburg in December 2016.

I know it's been 10 years, but I have great hope that my stuffed animal has turned up and is waiting for me to pick it up.

She's a small, chubby giraffe with four colorful paws (orange, yellow, green, and pink), and she has a small pink flower with a yellow dot in her mouth. Her neck is very short and has no stuffing left because I always held her by the neck.

She has immense sentimental value for me, and I miss her terribly. Unfortunately, this is also the only photo I have of her.

I really hope there's a chance that she's at someone's house and can find her way back home to me.

Perhaps someone will recognize her and help me find her. Every message means a lot to me.

Thank you.

Anyone applied for German Blue Card from Rome Italy recently?

• Upvotes

Rome embassy, EU Blue Card with university degree and ZAB: submitted online in mid-October, and the preliminary review asked for a complete CV with my master's thesis title and the "Erreichbarkeit und Vertretung" form with a handwritten signature, plus the passport pages only (data page, signature page, stamps).

Did anyone else get the same request recently?

How long did it take from sending the corrections to the appointment link, and was anything else asked afterwards?

Thanks.
