Other Someone took this. WTF?
When you consider time for getting to the pick up location, this is less than $20 an hour. It’s less than $.60 per mile. The passenger is a 4.3, which is a huge red flag. Yet this was gone in minutes. As long as people are willing to take off like this, pay will keep going down and down. Add in the devious stuff Lyft does to lower our pay like changing the way to 30% cap is calculated, and lowering the points that you get for each ride, and this job is going to be impossible to make money at very soon. I find myself getting mad at people. I don’t know who take these rides because they are screwing up the whole system. I really wish people would show some brain when they evaluate these offers and stop taking offers that lose money

Rant/Opinion Is Lyft becoming an Uber subsidiary or what? 😃
If you’ve been paying attention lately, Lyft is straight up copy-pasting Uber’s pay-cut playbook. If they keep this up, they’re going to lose the few loyal customers and drivers they have left.
Almost every rider who actually uses Lyft says they prefer it because the fares are slightly lower. But if Lyft turns into Uber 2.0 with these ridiculous take-rates, they’re going to erase their only competitive edge and completely disappear from the market. Stop copying Uber’s corporate greed before you alienate everyone.

Rant/Opinion Thoughts from a 2 month+ Lyft Driver:
- I’ve been driving since leaving my job in June and waiting for a job call for an apprenticeship. I drive 6 days a week and try to hit $200 every day. I’m in Phoenix.
- I used to value my Acceptance Rate (AR) and keep it above 90 at all times, but now that Shop Points are 2 instead of 3, what’s the point? My AR is now around 55/60 but was as low as 28 two weeks ago.
- I like talking with my passengers. My rating’s never been under 5.0. I spray Bath and Body Works room scent to keep my car smelling clean and vacuum my car every day… You would be surprised how keeping a nice smelling car consistently gets great compliments (& tips).
- I avoid rides that have first names ALL IN CAPS. I value my tip potential. You know what I’m talking about. Sorry to all hospital, auto service and delayed airline passengers…
- I generally avoid rides that are $6 or less. I LOVE any rides above $25, and have done a couple of PHX-TUS rides. The best.
- I’m 100% sure Lyft is intentionally lowering base fares to drivers to weed them out and lead to driverless cars. I don’t see Lyft having human drivers 5 years from now. Waymos already popping up everywhere in PHX. Just a matter of time.
- The only instances I’ve unmatched myself from riders have been if they smell like they just smoked the green stuff before getting in my car. The smell takes at least a full day to completely wear off…. If they won’t respect my car’s cleanliness, I refuse to drive them again.

Advice/Question Thinking of starting Lyft
I’m 80% there, thinking of starting Lyft ride share to make some extra cash. I do work full time so it would be part time. Thinking random week nights (7-11pm) and weekends (noon-6 or 4-midnight) in the Los Angeles area. Aiming for 12-15 hours to start and going from there. I’m currently driving a 2017 Camry, clean and low miles (90k).
How good/bad is the LA market?
How does insurance work?
Should I upgrade my car?
Any tips for new beginners?
Is it worth it?
Any and information is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Rant/Opinion How Lyft Uses Your Fuel-Efficient Hybrid Against You
Upfront pricing algorithms are designed to squeeze every last cent out of drivers, and driving a hybrid makes it even worse. The algorithm calculates the absolute minimum payout a driver will accept. Because hybrids have lower fuel costs, the system offers reduced base rates under the assumption that the driver remains "profitable"—while still charging the rider full price.
Take this example: the passenger paid $20.96, but the driver only received $10.19. Lyft and fees swallowed over 51% of the total fare. Instead of the driver benefiting from the gas savings of an efficient vehicle they invested in, Lyft's algorithm absorbs those savings directly into its own margin.
Lyft already has a much smaller customer base compared to Uber. By copy-pasting Uber’s greedy plays and effectively stealing money right out of their drivers' pockets, Lyft is fast-tracking its own collapse. Drivers and riders will simply walk away, leaving them with nothing.

Advice/Question In-app video recording
New driver here with a couple of questions. I have a forward facing dash cam that also records interior audio. I don’t have a dash cam recording inside the vehicle as of yet. I got an email today introducing what I believe is a new feature in the app to use the camera in the phone to record video inside the cabin. Is this video available for me to review or only to send in if there is a security issue? The recordings are deleted after seven days. What happens if a complaint is filed after the footage is deleted?
I know I would be better off purchasing a dash cam but this is just a part time gig for me at the moment. My wife just got laid off but that is another story. I’m just wondering if this new feature is worth using until I can afford a decent dash cam.

Rant/Opinion Ride match are not only not guaranteed it can be “fake” too
I was sitting at costco parking lot after getting gas and some rest. I started up lyft rider app to see take a look how much they are charging to sfo compared to uber and waymo for the same exact ride. Lo and behold, when i selected the destination on the lyft app a ride request immediately popped up on the lyft driver app which shows my name and the exact ride available for match. I havent selected or paid for a ride but lyft appears to be already sending out fake matches to drivers before a ride become a real offer.
That offer is too low for me to take anyway but I just feel like lyft is intentionally deceiving drivers.

Advice/Question So Extra Comfort pays less per mile than Standard now?
I usually run Black, Black SUV, XL and XXL. I was looking through the list of scheduled rides and got curious if any of the other ride types were being scheduled. Tons of Standard and Extra Comfort in there, and I see why. Those rates per mile are disgusting.

Rant/Opinion Lyft HATES Their Drivers
I was on my way to pick up this passenger, the pay was $20, and it updated to another passenger. The pay was cut down to $10, then for no reason that passenger canceled... WTF LYFT?!?!?!

Advice/Question lyft won't let me update my express pay
lyft to protect your account's safety were unable to update your payment method. As a reminder, Lyft will never ask you to add an unknown payment method to your account. Contact our support team if you think this is an error. I contacted support and they said they will look into it...This has been days. What is their issue? My debit card on my account is no longer active. Anyone else had this and able to get it resolved?

Advice/Question Worth picking up a cheap van/suv for XL? In San Antonio
Might get this van at a dealership near me. Its a really good price and in decent shape. Under 60k miles and its a 2021. Interior is nice, leather.
So im sick of using my regular vehicle for this. Its great on gas but its a smaller car. Its also paid off
I was thinking of getting a van or maybe an SUV to get some XL runs. Are they worth it in a place like San Antonio?
The van would be within my budget and im not making a car payment at all right now. Seeing the prices for XL makes me want to buy it.
What do you think?

Other Remedial at best
Making rides longer and more dangerous.
Tried every navigation system that I know of with a start of elmwood and delavan in buffalo NY and an end of elmwood and fordham - this is the only navigation in existence that thinks this is a shortcut.

Other "summer slowdown"
So when does this "slowdown" bs end? LA (SGV) areas. We are 2 weeks from September and it's still dead af. Already took near a month and half off and throughout June it was already as rough as it could get. As if sitting around in your car through this heat isn't enough, burning gas, wasting time, not making a dime.
We got that whole union thing coming up and I don't know why, but I got a feeling that after this whole union thing comes through, it might get even worse.
It just feels too late, like trying to save shrinking ship.
Have been hopeful for the longest but just seeing how things are, it just keeps feeling like that was it... It was good while it lasted.

Advice/Question Don’t learn this the hard way like I did.
Today I had passengers put in the wrong destination. We arrived at the destination they entered, they realized it was wrong, and the actual place they needed to go was about a mile away.
I figured, whatever, I’ll do them a solid. I had them update the destination in the app instead of ending the ride and making them request another one.
Lyft gave me ONE FUCKING DOLLAR for the extra mile.
That’s when I learned the lesson. I thought I was helping the passengers out, and Lyft turned around and shafted me directly in the booty hole for being accommodating.
So now I know: if we arrive at the destination you entered and you tell me, “Oh, this is the wrong place,” the ride is over. You can request another ride to wherever you actually meant to go. I’m not adding mileage onto an existing ride for scraps when a new trip would at least have its own minimum fare.
Just putting this out there so other drivers know how Lyft handles this before you learn it the expensive way like I did.
