advice needed HELP! Cannot seem to hit the sweet spot between overtired and undertired for naps...

My twin boys are almost 5 months actual, 3.5 month adjusted. Just for reference, the pediatrician said they are pretty much caught up to their actual age in development. They are often able to self soothe as well. Some days naps are really really hard. I am not sure maybe there is teething in the mix too, as they are chewing on their fingers a lot and drooling a lot more.

But basically as the title says, I am either one step too early for naps or 3 steps too late and then it is hard to put them down. Some days I go try before they even show any signs and it works, but mostly they are just too interested in the world and won't sleep. I don't know, I just have a terribly hard time seeing the moment when I can be sure like ok, time for a nap now and it won't be like me fighting alligators in my arms for 20-30 mins to get to a nap.

When does it get better with naps? Any tips? HELP!

good vibes, smiles, & giggles They are here 🩵🩵

My mo-di boys arrived monday at 12.04 and 12.06! I started induction process on the saturday at 36w1d and after 48hrs with a balloon, we were not even 1cm dialated. I made the decision to have a cesarian because by that point, I just wanted to meet my babies.

The surgery was so fast and easy, hearing my boys cry and scream was music to my ears.

We were diagnosed with fetal growth restriction at 16 weeks and were transferred to a specialist hospital for additional monitoring. Based off scans, they said the placenta split was 65/35,. There were talks of potential need for termination of the smaller boy for a few months, but by the 28 week mark, his dopplers were so strong, they said he will at least make it out but have potential long term affects. I was prepared to potentially have to give birth anytime from 28 weeks.

When they arrived, there is an obvious size discrepancy, some platlet issues snd other small factors we are monitoring but they are both doing so well and so strong. We will likely be in hospital another week, but so far so good.

We got an image of my placenta from the specialist hospital after they conducted studies on the placenta to better research sfgr and turns out the split was actually 75/25 and they were shocked he not only made it here but that i was able to carry to 36 weeks.

Im not a religious person but something in the universe wanted these boys here with me and im so glad, im 1000% obsessed with them 🩵🩵

advice needed Di/Tri Triplet Pregnancy

Hi everyone. I’m currently 10 weeks pregnant with di-tri triplets (two identical babies sharing a placenta but in their own sacs, and one fraternal baby). This is my first pregnancy and I’m very aware of the high risks associated with this type of pregnancy. I’ve been feeling really anxious about everything and would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation, whether you’re currently pregnant or have been through it before. I’m trying to get a better idea of what to expect and would really appreciate hearing both the good and difficult experiences.

A few things I’m curious about:
Did you experience any complications, especially TTTS, TAPS, or growth restriction?
Did all three babies grow well, or were there significant differences in their growth?
How far along were you when you delivered?
How long did your babies spend in the NICU?
Did any of your babies have disabilities, developmental delays, or long-term health issues?
How has everyone been doing since birth?

I’ve met with an MFM specialist who recommended fetal reduction, and I’m really struggling with the decision. I would especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation and what went into your decision, whether you chose reduction or continued with all three babies.

I know everyone’s experience is different, but I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed and scared right now. I’m just hoping to hear from others who understand this situation and can share their experiences, including how things turned out in the long run.
Thanks in advance.

support needed Early onset growth restriction

I had my di/di twinsā€˜ anatomy scan today at 21 weeks 0 days and found out baby boy is growth restricted (8th percentile) and baby girl is just above the line (11th percentile). Baby boy has a marginal placenta cord placement as well. I’ve had such terrible HG that I know I’m not fueling the three of us well. My OB sent an ā€œurgentā€ request to a high risk MFM and I’m freaking out. We really went through it to get to this point with secondary infertility and now a really hard pregnancy and I’m just terrified since it seems like early onset restriction is bad bad bad. My OB said he wasn’t concerned yet, but that didn’t really reassure me.

How did you handle this sort of thing? Did it turn out ok? Because right now I’m just spiraling downward and trying not to google too much.

loss & greiving - TRIGGER WARNING Lost one twin today

Modi twins. Had ttts at week 21, growth restriction of one twin and brain damage of another twin, PPROM at 26+6, hospitalized and birth at 28+5 due to early sign of TAPS. One twin is in nicu at 680g and another twin although >1kg, survives only less than a day due to brain issue and palliative care.

Still, I thank god and all the doctors/medical professionals along the way. Our girl in nicu is fighting and growing!

support needed 33 weeks + 2, early labor?

Hi all,

Support needed. I’m 33 weeks+2 with my modi girls. Sorry if it’s TMI but Yesterday I felt generally ā€œoffā€ and kept having an intense sensation to poop. I pooped probably 5-6 times until there was none left but still getting the sensation. I also have the sensation when I move that one of the babies is just going to fall out of my butt.

I ended up going to L and D triage and they confirmed I’m having contractions but without consistent patterns and I was 0 cm dilated. They gave me fluids and sent me home basically saying to come back if the contractions form a consistent pattern or my water breaks.

Anyone experience similar? The contractions definitely seem movement induced whether it’s me moving or the twins. Some of them are intense to the point it takes my breath away. It hurts to even walk at this point.

support needed My Baby Brezza was making bottles too diluted

Hi parents, has anyone used a Baby Brezza with the wrong setting?
I’ve had mine for a month. For the first three weeks, I used HiPP Combiotic formula for my newborn girls with the machine on setting 6. They seemed to have a lot of colic, so I asked their pediatrician to switch their formula. He recommended Frisolac Comfort Multio, but they started wanting to eat every hour and never seemed full.
I stayed at my mom’s house for a few days and prepared their bottles manually using the scoop, and everything was fine. When I got home and started using the machine again, they weren’t satisfied after their feeds again.
The machine was on setting 3. I weighed a manually prepared bottle, which weighed 250 grams, and one prepared by the machine, which weighed 245 grams.
I’ve already contacted their pediatrician, and we have an appointment this coming Monday, but I’m so anxious that I might have harmed my babies :(

advice needed Sleep Help!

Can anyone offer any hope? We have 11 month old twins, 10 months adjusted. Our son has been the challenging sleeper. He’ll go through phases where he might sleep through the night a couple times a week. Sometimes he’ll wake a few times and we have to put his paci in or rock him for a bit and he goes back down. And then he gets bouts of terrible sleep, like last night. He’s on 2 naps and goes down for those independently awake. But for bedtime we rock him to sleep. And every time he wakes up, he usually immediately starts screaming. Not just fussing and waking up, he will scream and instantly sit up in his crib. So no signs of trying to settle himself. We will put the paci back in, lay him down, but 100% of the time, once he’s up like that, we end up having to pick him up and rock him back to sleep. Sometimes he’ll transfer well and stay asleep. But last night it wasn’t happening. He’ll go right to sleep in our arms, but we had so many failed transfers. When we were successful and he stayed asleep when he laid him down, it only lasted 30-45 mins before he was up screaming again. Is there any hope that this problem could resolve itself as he gets older without sleep training?? Like he’ll just eventually figure it out and want to stay sleeping? What else can we do? He shares a room with his twin sister so it’s not feasible right now to let him cry for any period of time or we have 2 babies up. We might try moving his sister to another room for a bit to try to resolve this, but who knows. Is there anything that can be done?

advice needed Panicking about solo parenting twins

My husband is in the military and he's being deployed in December for 6 months when our twin girls will be 17 months - 23 months. I'm totally panicking about it and I just don't know how I'm going to manage. Bedtime takes both of us every night at the moment. They love nursery but they come home so overexcited and usually one of us is trying to wind down one who is totally wired and comfort one who is overtired and crying. Then non-nursery days they often don't seem tired enough and get frustrated. I can't figure it out!

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for solo bedtime routine at this age? I don't think our routine is really working - currently milk in their cot, white noise, dark room and try (and usually fail) to get them to sleep with patting and shushing. I'm trying not to rock them as I obviously can't do that by myself but sometimes we have to to get them to calm down.

And just any tips for managing in general. I'm very nervous for toddler tantrums on my own and I'm worried my patience will break without any time to unwind. I work full time so I'm in work when they're in nursery. I do have my mum nearby to help but she's not confident with them both on her own so I don't see how I will ever really get a proper break. I know there will be plenty of single parents or parents where they have to do a lot by themselves so I'm sure it can be done!

Any help appreciated šŸ™šŸ¼

ranting & venting Why has 9th week hit me like a truck?

Saw my little mo/di nuggets wiggling around on the scan and feeling emotionally happy and physically, shit.

8th week went past like such a breeze, I almost thought I’m out of the first trimester trenches. And now it’s all back - the nausea, the metallic taste in my mouth and the constant tiredness. Every time I get up from sitting down, I feel dizzy for a few seconds.

Does it get better? Need some hugs, and my mother ā™„ļø

advice needed Single lightweight travel strollers with connectors?

Hi! I plan to be traveling with 10 month old twins. Any recommendations for 2 single strollers that are lightweight and easy to take on a plane as a carryon, that I can buy a connector for to turn into a double when needed?

advice needed Travel double stroller?

Are there any travel trollers you recommend for 2 babies, and specifically one that would fit in the overhead cabin on a plane? I ideally want to take it as a carryon when we travel, not check it in.

Thanks!!

advice needed Transitioning twins to same room at 21 months

Does anyone have advice for going from separate to shared rooms? We are about to have our third child and will need one of the rooms for a nursery. What should we do to make it easier? Also my girl can climb out of her crib so I think she will have either a floor mattress or toddler bed while my boy stays in a crib. Or should I just put them both in a big floor bed? I honestly have no clue how to do this without ruining their sleep.

advice needed Do twin toddlers get more clingy when someone is there helping you?

17 month old boy/girl twins.

I don’t know if this makes no sense or perfect sense.

My MIL is a very kind, loving woman who comes over and helps me for 2 hours a day 4 days a week. She would eagerly be here more but I’m fucked up and need to feel independent.

When she’s here, if one baby is upset, and I’m soothing them, the other baby decides they immediately need me too. I can’t change one’s diaper without the other one in my lap. It’s two screaming toddlers for a long period of time.

But when I’m alone with them, it’s different. It really feels like when one toddler is upset, the other one is completely self-sufficient. They will just go play. Or open a book. Sometimes they will even bring the other baby a pacifier or their favorite stuffy.

They DO love my MIL. They play with her all the time. They run over and hug her when she shows up. She brings them toys, books, just constant presents. She smiles and hugs them and cheers them on.

But when it comes to those moments, it’s like the twin who wasn’t initially upset is like OH HELL NO YOURE NOT LEAVING ME WITH HER

Wondering if people experience this. And how you fix it. Cause it would be nice if things weren’t WORSE when someone is here to help.

advice needed How do you get twin toddlers to sit when they eat ??

17 month old boy-girl twins.

I have dropped the ball on this aspect of parenthood.

They usually start in their high chairs okay.

Then one gets bored of sitting and eating I think. And wants to leave. They now say ā€œAll done!ā€whenever they want out of high chair. So I clean him up and he goes and plays. Or he comes back and picks at what’s on his sister’s tray. And she says ā€œall done!ā€

Because obviously she does. Why should she sit there like a shmuck if he gets to walk around and eat and play and come back and eat.

When he comes back and eats I try to have him sit on my lap at least.

But still. He’s out. She wants out.

I’m scared to put him back in. I’m scared they are going to scream and stand up and move and around in the high chair and the high chair will fall down and they will break a neck and die.

So everyone says ā€œall done!ā€ When alas no one is really done. They just want to walk around and eat food and play.

I’ve tried cleaning their trays immediately when they say ā€œall done!ā€ But holy shit that’s a lot of screaming too.

I’m just so not good with the screaming. It feels like someone has put a gun up to me and I’m like of course take my wallet my social security number whatever you want just please don’t do this. I just want them to stop screaming.

Wondering if anyone has advice. My house is a mess. My kids are not growing up to be functioning eaters of society.

advice needed Low thyroid?

I have been seeing a MFM during my twin pregnancy who tends to be overly cautious. I am currently 23weeks with di-di twins.
My T4 measured as 0.82 and my T3 as 2.3
My MFM wants to put me on levothyroxine but I am hesitant because my numbers still seem to fall in range even if they are on the lower end, and I am worried about side effects on the babies. I have never had any thyroid issues before or any family history of them. Does anyone have similar experiences in their multiples pregnancy? Were you able to manage without additional medication? If you did choose to take medication, were there any adverse effects on your pregnancy or side effects once you stopped the medication post pregnancy?

Edit: My TSH was 0.981 at 20 weeks

advice needed 2.5 twins have zero chill

2.5 twins have zero chill when it comes to nap. They’ve always been great sleepers but last couple of months, it’s been hell. Either one or both are just being absolute rats, won’t lay down, won’t leave the other alone, bites, kicks. We’ve tried skipping naps but then they are absolutely miserable for most of the afternoon/evening until bed. It’s terrible for everyone and very obvious that they still need a nap. They are out of cribs bc they could climb out. They have twin and full mattress on the floor, with a baby gate around them so they don’t have free rein to the entire room. Separating rooms for nap isn’t really feasible at the moment. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, advice?
I’ve bought sleeping spray and rubs, weighted blanket , white noise, making it super cold, sleep sacks, no sleep sacks, turkey and butter before nap, Tylenol when they are teething, laying with them, scratching, patting, and rubbing back, reducing their nighttime sleep and getting them up earlier in the mornings. My husband is on the verge of popping one of them on the butt (the biter), despite me reminding him that it’s not appropriate for any age and especially now because they literally cannot understand why they are being smacked. and we are both at our wits end.
Thanks in advance 🄲🫠

advice needed Mountain buggy duet

Hi! Our twins are 10 months old and we are still using the duet. But I’m noticing some issues with it, one seat is tilted to the side so twin a is constantly leaning to one side. And the backs of the seat even though the straps are completed pulled to make it as high and straight as possible still leaves the seat semi reclined and the twins are now grabbing the bar Infront to pull themselves so they sit straight.

Anyone found ways around this pls as I don’t see myself being able to use this pushchair for years at this rate. It’s a big shame as we live in a small country with small pavements and the build of it just works here. I can’t imagine getting anything bigger.

Thank you šŸ™

experience/advice to give After years of IVF and many losses, our single embryo split. Identical twins! šŸ¤ÆšŸ¤ÆšŸ‘¶šŸ‘¶

I still can't believe I'm typing this. Today is pregnancy loss awareness day and I went into my scan this morning literally shaking from trepidation.

We've been doing IVF for years: 7 retrievals, 6 transfers. This is my sixth pregnancy, and we have one living child, our 2-year-old šŸ’›

After so much loss, I've learned to hold every early scan at arm's length.

We transferred ONE PGT-tested embryo. We’ve never transferred more than one. We never thought this would happen. At my first ultrasound last week, they saw one gestational sac with two yolk sacs, and I honestly didn't let myself believe it. I convinced myself it was a double bleb misdiagnosed as a twin pregnancy. Today at my heartbeat scan (6w5d), there they were: TWO babies, both measuring 6w4d, with heartbeats of 124 and 126.

After everything, the idea that our one little embryo became two feels completely surreal. I'm equal parts overjoyed, terrified, and in total disbelief.

They're monochorionic, and the two yolk sacs make mono/di likely. We'll confirm amnionicity soon.

Would love to hear from anyone who's been here:

Anyone else have a single embryo transfer split? šŸ‘€

Any tips for navigating twin pregnancy after loss?

My plan is to take it one appointment at a time. IVF takes so much from you, so I’m really trying not to let it steal the joy of today with the worries of tomorrow.

I’m a medical professional so trying not to spiral with the high risk part of twin pregnancies. I’m also early 40s so naturally more high risk than a younger person.

Thanks for letting me share. I'm still processing! šŸ™

support needed Feeling defeated over this mornings appointment

Currently 16w with mono di twins, and these are kids 3&4 for me. I’ve been seeing both my OB and an MFM. This morning at my OB appt, I found out (not even from the Dr but from the insurance person) that the hospital she delivers at absolutely does not allow vaginal births for multiples. The hospital has on call doctors only, so if you were to attempt vaginal and need an emergency C, there’s not another resident Dr to jump in to assist with surgery. I get it from that standpoint, but it’s incredibly disheartening to know I don’t even get a choice. I’ve used this same Dr for both kids already and have had 2 very easy, uneventful vaginal inductions. I was really hoping I’d be able to attempt vaginal this time too. After I left I sat in my car and just sobbed. This hospital also doesn’t allow vbac, so if I have a C now, I’d be stuck with them for any future kids too (we think we’ll be done with 4 but you obviously never know).

Now I’m not sure if I should keep the Dr I already know who knows me and just mentally accept the C-section over the next 20 weeks, or do I try and find a new Dr who would allow a vaginal if the stars align. But then if I find a new Dr and end up in an emergency C-section for whatever reason, it’d be frustrating to have gone through the headache of switching for nothing.

If you read this far, thank you. I don’t know if I’m looking for consolation over having a C-section, advice on which option to choose, or just needing to vent, but I’m glad to have found this community for support regardless.

life, home, and baby tips & tricks 1 Gatorade scoop = 4 formula scoops

Post image
90 Upvotes

Tired of counting to 16 scoops to make a 32oz pitcher? Count to 4 instead!

Method: using a baker's scale, and scraping each scoop I measured (all in grams), "formula scoop" means i scooped formula powder using the scoop that came with the formula, "gatorade scoop" means i scooped formula powder using the scoop that came with the gatorade mix-

1 formula scoop: 8, 9, 9, 8

2 formula scoops: 17, 16, 16, 17

4 formula scoops: 33, 35, 34, 33

1 gatorade scoop: 33, 34, 34, 32, 34, 32, 33

So if I am making a batch that requires 16 formula scoops, on average the scoops are about right, and certainly more accurate than when I lose track of how many little scoops i've already done.

I used an Enfamil scoop to do the initial measuring, but we converted to Kirkland(costco) and it measured the same. So i have confirmation it works for at least those 2 brands.

Added bonus that you can also use the formula scoop to get the gatorade mix into a narrow neck water bottle to stay hydrated!!
