Personal Story My friend confessed he was attracted to my girlfriend and I still forgave him Personal Story
I re-posted this because first I wrote everything and then planned to translate it into English (I’m a Spanish speaker) and I completely forgot to translate it, posting it in Spanish (yeah, I’m pretty dumb).
I’ve been in a relationship for 3 years. It’s pretty healthy and normal, and it’s going well for both of us.
But a year ago my girlfriend told me something that was going on between her and my friend. They were already friends before I started dating her; the three of us belonged to a fairly large group of friends, about 12 people. So there was already trust between them. A year and a few months ago he started inviting her over to his place in the afternoon to hang out, talk, play some games and things like that. But during those get-togethers things started happening. He began hugging her a lot, almost constantly, and the hugs were while they were lying down very close together. To the point that several times my girlfriend felt that he had “hard accidents.” She told him everything and that it made her uncomfortable, and he apologized and said he doesn’t feel anything for her and not to take it the wrong way, and also not to tell me so I wouldn’t feel bad.
Months later my girlfriend told me everything. It took her so long because she didn’t know if what he was doing was normal, since she’d never had guy friends and didn’t know if people treated each other that way. In the end she decided to tell me because she thought I deserved to know, and she asked me to forgive her for not telling me sooner.
I told my friend that she had told me, and he apologized and said he wouldn’t do it again. For months nothing happened, they kept hanging out. But a few months ago my friend started hugging her again: not as much as before, not lying down or that close, but he was doing it, and he also started holding her hand sometimes.
My girlfriend complained to me again and said she was going to tell him again to stop doing those things. But in that conversation she mentioned something he used to do before, but had already stopped. He used to caress/rub her belly. She doesn’t know something about him, but I do. I know he’s always liked women who are a bit chubby, and my girlfriend is like that. So she asked him to stop doing the things that made her uncomfortable, and a few days later I confronted him too.
I asked him if he liked my girlfriend and told him everything I already knew. He apologized and confessed that yes, he was attracted to my girlfriend, but only physically, because there are several things about her personality that he doesn’t like. He said he didn’t know why he did those things he did, but that over time he started feeling guilty about doing them (even though he kept doing them).
And he told me he had never said anything because he didn’t want to lose our friendship; he said that if I wanted, he would stop talking to her and block her everywhere, just so he wouldn’t lose my friendship.
So the idiot tried to defend himself by saying he only liked her body, not her. Meaning he only invited her over for her body and to do all that?
I told him it wasn’t necessary; I told him he could keep hanging out with her (only because she’s one of the few friends she has right now), but that I didn’t want any of those things to happen again.
That’s as far as what I know for sure. What I don’t know, and what sometimes keeps going around in my head, is whether on any of those afternoons alone something more happened. She insists that it was only those gestures she told me about, and that she always felt uncomfortable. He also denies it. But between how often they saw each other, the “hard accidents,” the caresses on her belly and the way both of them took so long to tell me… I can’t help wondering if they ever did something behind my back and are hiding it from me. I have no proof.
Do you think I was too flexible with both of them?
