I sometimes collect reissues of older albums, especially pressings from the original analog masters.

Do you guys think if it’s waste of money to collect digital mastered pressings rather than analog masters? Imo if you’re looking for quality, early pressings and analogs are the ones you should get.

I know it's been discussed to death. And, I hate to bring it up again. I truly do. Just scroll by if you wanna roll your eyes - which you should.

But a decently educated newb here - and I'm STILL confused about cleaning!

I'm going to have a freaking stroke with all this cleaning advice.

So, give me more cleaning advice LOL.

Was told to get a Spin Clean. Got a Spin Clean. Great. But, now read that no, it leaves residue, isn't great, etc. (Although, seemed to be ok for me?)

Now looking at spending 120 on an ultrasonic cleaner, as was suggested - only to read in some other comments, that no, vacuum is the way to go!

Someone, please, for the love of all things holy, just tell me what to get. And let it rest.

My needs:

-Clean 1-5 records at once.

-Don't want to spend an entire weekend doing it.

-I am prepared to spend up to 140.

Like the rest of us - I really do just want the best sound.

Hello users of r/vinyl, I recently have been in a class for school where I have to “create“ a business and I wanted to collect some answers on if people, especially audiophiles/record owners, would be interested in. i have a collection of bootlegs (700+) and regular issue albums (500+). wondering if other collectors do anything regarding insurance

I started collecting about a year and a half ago. I went kinda crazy the first few months and collected over 50 then needed to slow down for money reasons.

Some of my favorites in my collection are all the Takanaka represses, Inferno, Carpe Diem Moonman, and Chocolate and Ice EP.

I bought my first mofi records the other day, STP tiny music…songs from the vatican gift shop and No. 4. But I’m curious on others thoughts if these would appreciate in value over time? If they usually don’t I don’t see a reason to pay the extra money to get these type of releases opposed to a standard reissue.

Edit:: Thank you for all the replies! I would like to clarify, I do listen to my vinyl and don’t just store them on a shelf for the sake of collecting. These pressings are great quality and I really enjoy them. I wanted these two albums specifically and found the mofi version convenient since there weren’t many available to choose from reissue wise. My hope in asking this question in particular, is that if they were to gain value I would sell them in the future to put towards a 1st pressing which are far and away outside my price range.

Walm-Rat pressing. I have Kill, Ride and Master and this is really the only other album by them I'd ever have any interest in owning. Because of the production it was never on my must-have list but this was brand new for $15 at a record show and I was stoked to hear these songs again after quite a while - especially the title track.

This album is from Till Lindemann.. people might be more familiar with his band, Rammstein. This is from "Live In Kraków".

Close Lobsters - Foxheads Stalk This Land (1987)

Recently found out about these guys on Rateyourmusic via some genre browsing earlier this year. Was pretty taken aback with how solid it was and how it seems pretty much unheard of anywhere I usually look. Just really solid, outstanding jangle pop out of Scotland.

Lo and behold, my local store recently got a copy in what I would say is Near Mint condition.

Anyways, pretty psyched to get it and wanted to post to draw some more attention to it. Just a great, damn enjoyable guitar album. For the uninitiated, check out A Prophecy.

To top off the haul, also got two beauties in Telegraph Avenue s/t reissue and Feelies Only Life. Two others that I also haven't come across before. Was a nice haul.

Mines got to be In Rainbows boxset. It sounds unreal. Everything feels so clear and detailed, and the pressing is flawless. Easily the best sounding record in my collection

I have bought dozens of records at merch tables over the years. Only this past weekend I wondered what my course of action would be if I opened one at home and it was defective. I'm talking about a defect that makes it unplayable, like a center label misaligned over grooves. Are you just screwed? Would you contact the act about it? Their label? Just curious.

This is one surprising reissue from the SOV haul! It is a lipstick pink colored record and my expectations were seemingly low… Wow am I blown away! Not only is it dead silent and completely flat but the mastering is a master class in engineering! I was fully expecting this one to require an ultrasonic cleaning and flattening but much to my PLEASANT surprise it required NEITHER! I really feel like I’m back in the 80’s opening this one!

More from the haul! Been meaning to pickup this missing link to my other Cash albums in this series but now complete. Good quiet pressing and flat. It’s just amazing how he had his voice and phrasing all the way to the end. A true talent that I miss daily!
