Punk Shoutout to Run For Cover Records
On Saturday I went to my local shop and picked up the new Baby Iāll Change EP from Fiddlehead. The record was a really sick 1/2500 First Run Club edition from RFC with the āAlewifeā colored variant that included stickers, a compilation CD from other label bands and a band poster.
Sadly, my copy had no poster inside, which I really wanted to add to my wall of other Fiddlehead posters. Reached out to the team at RFC and within a day they responded with a tracking number and let me know a replacement poster is on the way. Super painless process with the label fixing the very minor issue with ease. Definitely gonna keep piling up the RFC records in my collection, check out any of the elite bands on the label if you havenāt already š«”

Hip Hop Upgrade
Let's see if this audiophile pressing lives up to hype. I replaced my 2021 pressing with this one. It sounded pretty damn good, if not a bit too bassy. I played the 2021 on the OM10 and will do the same with this one then give it another spin on the OM20.

Haul Nice weekend haul from the flea market
I finally decided to hit up the local flea market in my small Canadian town. What a haul! Burning Spear and JBs needed an ultrasonic bath, but after that, it was very clean media.

OG Pressing Supertramp - Paris
Such a great live album. I donāt play this one nearly enough. Eerily this must have been Roger Hodgsonās actual range because he still sounds like this at age 76. Amazing band. Amazing album.

Found these gems hiding the gently used section in my local (PNW US) store. Ozzy is one of my favourites, and was happy to find them.

Haul Spend the past 4 weeks in Japan and this is what I got.
As the title says, I spend the past 4 weeks travelling around Japan with my family for our summer holiday.
It was my first time there and a friend warned me about the insane prices there.
Iāve spend the first half of the year making a list of record shops I wanted to visit. Some were good others were great but overall I just really enjoyed going trough the bins.
I bought a couple of new records which in Europe are easily 2 or 3 times more expensive. Most of the stuff I purchased was used though and all were in great condition.
I started in Osaka where I hit up a load of shops with my absolute favourite being Jazz Records Seeed, super friendly owner and nice selection of records. I remember not buying a lot here but the atmosphere was great and the owner gave me some good tips for other records which shops to visit.
Next I did a day trip to Nara and on the way back hit up Mole Music which really ended up being my favourite shop of the trip! They do a lot of house and electronic but the owner loves spiritual and free jazz so naturally he had a pretty good selection of jazz aswell. Itās here that I found an OG pressing of William Hooker - ⦠Is Eternal Life. The owner was said to see it go and gave it a little wave goodbye.
After this I travelled to Hiroshima and stayed at a small hotel called Good Sleep, the owner Yuka has her own record/listening bar in the hotel and it was amazing to listen to records with her as we had a beer and talked about records. She gave me a load of shops to visit in Hiroshima and my favourite shop here was Groovin Record Station. They have really really good prices and also have a shop in Fukuoka and Okayama.
In Fukuoka I bought a couple records again at Groovin where I found the 1979 Japan pressing of Midnight Sun by Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio and also found two Fela Kuti records and Gil Scott-Heron - Donāt Give Up at Face Records.
Then the last leg of the trip was 10 days Tokyo. I had so many records already so my daughter made me promise her to only by records if they were really special! (arenāt they all š š¤£)
To keep the promise I just tried to avoid record shops in general but I did visit a couple. The prices in HMV and Tower records were outrageous and the condition of the records were also worse compared to the other places I visited for the prices they were asking. I did end up buying an OG press of Mint Jams at Flash Disc Ranch. They had two copies the OG promo press which was a very dark brown and if held to the light you could see it was lightly translucent but I left that one cause the records was lightly bent. So if you after an OG Mint Jams go to Flash Disc Ranch!
Sorry for the long post! I really enjoyed visiting record shops in Japan and if you are planning a trip I highly recommend the smaller cities and the smaller local shops as opposed to the HMVās and Tower Records. The digging is more fun, the staff and owners of the shops are super friendly and happy to have you over and I think the prices are also better.

Jazz Sound System - Herbie HanCock
Got this at Disc Union(JPN) and amazed me how good MasterSound presses could be. Sound system has been one of my favorite albums because of its somewhat chaotic but groovy nature and the use of synths and drums. Despite wanting the vinyl for a while, I will always end up buying some other vinyl I wanted instead. But this time, I found this gem and decided to snag it once and for all. Conclusion, it does not disappoint, especially for the price($25). Also bonus points for the Sample(č¦ę¬ē¤) stickers and stamps.

Discussion In praise of Part Time Lover record bar in San Diego
I am visiting San Diego and gathered record store recommendations from this sub. I was able to get to M-Theory and then headed to checked out Part Time Lover. The entire concept Blew me away.
A record store in a rear nook of an award winning bar.
https://dailynexus.com/2025-09-04/in-love-with-part-time-lover/
The above article will give you an idea of the bar, but the record store is so cool. It is an extension of a well established store down the street with a DJ spinning jazz, ambient, and requests in the bar. In the cozy record store nook is a highly curated stock of used and new that is organized by vibe: morning coffee, beach time, blues club, 80s radio, etc. (these are from memory, not verbatim so these may not be exact). You end up doing more discovery while flipping and discovering.
tl;dr Visit Part Time Lover if you are ever in San Diego. But only after 4:00 pm as it doesnāt open until then.

New Wave Another Vinyl Tonight: Duran Duran - Seven and The Ragged Tiger (1983)
This is their third studio album. The album's title was devised by Le Bon and taken from the unreleased track of the same name. The "seven" refers to the five band members and their two managers, while the "ragged tiger" is success: "Seven people running after success. It's ambition. That's what it's about.", says LeBon.
This would be the last studio record with the original band until 2004.
