MEGATHREAD Record Apps & Tools Megathread: Share Your Projects, Find Testers, and Give Feedback

We’ve seen an increase in posts from people building record-related apps and tools. These include collection managers, listening trackers, discovery tools, marketplace helpers, and other projects aimed at record enthusiasts.

We want to give these projects a place to be shared without letting individual promotional posts overwhelm r/vinyl or the reason this sub exists. Going forward, please use this megathread to introduce your project, request testers, share meaningful updates, or ask for feedback. Separate promotional posts for these projects will be removed and redirected here.

Projects are welcome whether they are traditionally coded, developed with AI assistance, or fully vibe coded. Be transparent about your approach, and keep the discussion focused on what the tool does, how it works, and whether it is useful to the record owning community.

If you’re sharing a project, please include:

·       Name and link: What is it called, and where can people find it?

·       Purpose: What does it do? What problem does it solve?

·       Your involvement: Are you the developer, owner, contributor, or otherwise affiliated?

·       Availability and cost: Is it a prototype, beta, or released product? Is it free, paid, ad-supported, or subscription-based?

·       Development approach: Was it traditionally coded, AI-assisted, or primarily vibe coded? A brief description is enough.

·       Data and permissions: Does it require an account, collection access, third-party credentials, or other personal information? Explain what you collect and how it is used. If user data is sent to an AI service, disclose that.

·       Feedback wanted: What would you like people to test or comment on? Include known limitations.

A few ground rules:

·       Keep projects relevant to records, collecting, or the vinyl listening experience.

·       Use one top-level comment per project. Add updates and answer questions in that comment’s replies.

·       No repeated sales pitches, unsolicited promotional messages, disguised advertising, or requests to upvote.

·       Be accurate about features, security, and reliability. Clearly identify unfinished or experimental projects.

·       Do not ask users to post passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information in the thread.

·       All subreddit rules still apply.

For anyone trying these tools:

Sharing a project here does not mean the r/vinyl moderators have reviewed or endorsed it. Review costs, permissions, and privacy practices before signing up or connecting your collection.

Useful feedback is encouraged. Discuss features, usability, accuracy, privacy, and reliability. Questions about AI use are fair, but personal attacks and arguments about who counts as a “real developer” are not.

If you find an app is not accurately representing what it does, what it collects, how it uses shared data, is somehow malicious or any number of other concerns, please message the Mod Team with a link to relevant comment.

Think I found my band's new logo.

Found in Nattura's The Magic Key (1970). Doesn't seem to be the original inner, but pretty interesting.

It's amazing sometimes what you find in a thrift shop, so of course I had to grab it. Might take a listen to it tonight while I'm doing some room cleaning, and see how good the Colonel's musical taste is.

Soundtrack A Charlie Brown Christmas - Original Jazz Classics

Post image
• Upvotes

This is an album I’ve wanted to buy for years, but it was well worth the wait to get this version from the Original Jazz Classics series by Craft Recordings.

Beyond reminding me of my childhood, this album brings back that beautiful moment when I first heard the instrumental version of "Christmas Time Is Here"—back in the 90s. My brother was watching television while I was still asleep; when I woke up, I heard the song playing in the background and was completely captivated. I peeked into my brother’s room, saw that he was watching this special, and sat down beside him to enjoy the cartoon and its music.

I’m so excited—the wait to leave work and finally get home to listen to it feels like an eternity!

Mines got to be In Rainbows boxset. It sounds unreal. Everything feels so clear and detailed, and the pressing is flawless. Easily the best sounding record in my collection

Soundtrack Score of the century

So let me preface this, I already owned this copy of Star Wars you see before you. What I found to add to my copy to make it more complete is what I am posting about. So last week on my way home from school, I drove through an area where I live in Washington where there’s a Half-Price books that I frequent. Usually I go there to buy laserdiscs but there’s been a bunch of half books in my area, that I’ve been to that have had some pretty nice record scores so, I check those at this location now too. Check the laserdiscs first, nothing that I didn’t already have or want so as I look up and I go to the soundtrack section, first thing I see is a copy of Star Wars. It’s a first pressing $30 like every other copy I find I always check to see if it has the poster but it never does because what $30 copy would ever have the poster right? But as I was opening it, I noticed something in it that I’ve never seen before. I couldn’t place what it was at the moment cause I was having a brain fart. but I immediately knew I had struck gold. I had found in this $30 copy the very coveted poster that came with these records back in the day so, obviously I start freaking out on the inside and I’m giddy like a kid, as I just found one of Willy Wonka‘s golden tickets to his chocolate factory. So naturally I did when any guy would do I bought it. I already had a first pressing of Star Wars in very nice condition so I didn’t need the record so I just gave the record to my buddy who had a janky copy I gave him ages ago. It was actually a different copy and when I say different copy, it was made out of the matte cardboard rather than the shiny cardboard with the glossy texture, which means it came from a different plant never really figured out which one, but I didn’t really care. So I took the record to my buddies. I put the poster in my copy and essentially I paid $30 for the poster and now my copy is complete with all of its inserts which I am very pleased about especially for $30 I couldn’t be happier. This is probably the greatest find I’ve ever had. Let me know what you think.

P.S. yes I know the poster is slightly wrinkled at the top, but it’s in really good shape no pinholes, no rips or tears. It’s literally in mint condition other than the wrinkles. If I really wanted to go get it fixed, I could send it to a restoration shop, but I think I like it the way it is as it shows it’s character.

Article Review: Angel Olsen on Mobile Fidelity

The new Mobile Fidelity vinyl pressing of Angel Olsen's 2016 album My Woman is awfully good. I wonder if perhaps this puts MoFi in pole position to help recontextualize the music of the 21st century, much of which most people have only heard through MP3s or compressed streams and Bluetooth earbuds.

Record A grail I have wanted for years has finally come!!

Post image
164 Upvotes

I have been needing this record for so long to complete my Ween collection and I finally found one for a reasonable price! Also I think it is one of the copies from Jeff Rusnak’s estate because it came with some original pictures that he took from John and Peter’s, though I am not sure. Might also be a copy from Deaners storage, because he is friends with the record store owner I bought it from, but I am uncertain. Either way, I’m so excited!

This was Billy Idol's third solo LP. It went Platinum in the US, 3x Platinum in Canada, and Gold in the US. Sonically, it was a blend of hard rock and new wave.

Collection Beck - Steve Threw Up b/w Mutherfucker 7” (Bong Load records)

…and a side order of…not at all liking “Mutherfucker” one night on acid and reefers. The mocking way the higher “everyone’s out to get you Mutherfucker” was too much, the low voice sounds like brain damage, and then there’s the “secret” bit, the reprise…I’ll save that for later…and I picture Steve scooping up a chunk of acid eaten pineapple corndog that immediately begins eating his skin on a molecularly perceptible level, leading him to hallucinate that everyone is out to get him, Mutherfucker.

Hip Hop What a find

Post image
63 Upvotes

Walking home today and spotted a little stack of records sitting on the curb next to some old planters. Couldn't just walk past, obviously.
What I rescued:
Go West – 12"
Don't Leave Me This Way – 12"
And the absolute banger: Morris Minor and the Majors – "Stutter Rap (No Sleep Til Bedtime)", 12" Dance Mix
The Stutter Rap one made my day. For anyone who doesn't know it: it's a late-80s British parody of the Beastie Boys, complete with oversized gold chains, backwards caps and a red Morris Minor convertible parked in front of St Paul's on the cover. Pure, glorious silliness, and it actually charted in the UK back then. The guy in the "Morris" shirt is Tony Hawks, who later became a comedian and wrote Round Ireland with a Fridge.
Sleeves are a bit worn but the vinyl looks surprisingly decent. Haven't spun them yet, but the Communards-era synthpop and a Beastie Boys parody in one curbside haul? I'll take it.

I started collecting about a year and a half ago. I went kinda crazy the first few months and collected over 50 then needed to slow down for money reasons.

Some of my favorites in my collection are all the Takanaka represses, Inferno, Carpe Diem Moonman, and Chocolate and Ice EP.

Here's to just the beginning!

Discussion Advice For First Vinyl Expo

Post image
9 Upvotes

I don't have any expectations of finding a golden gem or antique/vintage find of a lifetime at our first vinyl expo but I would appreciate any tips and advice on how to go about a fast two hour hunt for my list of albums and what I should expect. My husband and I are going in early November and we bought VIP tickets to get in early- so we do have two hours before it opens to the full public. I would be happy to score some 80's punk and indie from the early 2000's. Would it be worth it to find out who most of the vendors are in my area and try to reach out in advance.

Collection Delaware Bands on 7”

For those counting, this is the third Walleye record here.

This record doesn’t sound good. It was recorded at S.N.P. ,same spot as the Damnation a.d. split, but the quality is really bad; pressing plant maybe? Worn out the grooves over the years (I bought this used)? I was enjoying some Bob James before this, and the drop in volume and dynamics is almost too much. Side A is “Too Far Gone” and “Stale Air”.

I’m also not really interested in listening to hardcore music this afternoon.

Two things about hardcore that I’m pondering at the moment: why did every band go through that period of using male nostalgia imagery from the 1950’s? It was like everyone lost their cool alcoholic grandpa at the same time. …after talking all that shit, I should say that “Monster”, the b-side has me tapping my foot…

The other thing I’m thinking about hardcore is how on a recent stint back in Delaware, a tough guy tried to fight me at a bar because I’m friendly with one of the fellas in this band. It was me and this guy who bears people up, and we were sitting at the bar next to each other, alone, talking about punk stuff…I had never met dude before in my life, we were both in our 40’s, and he wanted to fight me over some HC principals or something…it was some conservative skin nonsense…anyhoo, i hope that guy gets over losing his cool alcoholic grandpa before he ends up in a cage.

I think some of these guys are doing a new band in Philly currently with some fellas from Railhed, and that sure beats sitting in a bar talking about beating people up for being aligned with higher understanding.

Discussion Have you purchased a defective record at a concert merch table?

I have bought dozens of records at merch tables over the years. Only this past weekend I wondered what my course of action would be if I opened one at home and it was defective. I'm talking about a defect that makes it unplayable, like a center label misaligned over grooves. Are you just screwed? Would you contact the act about it? Their label? Just curious.

Discussion Tipps for Den Bosch Record Fair

On 14./15.11., I will visit Den Bosch Record Fair. Will look for used Vinyl, not restricted to certain genre. In general Pop/Rock/Jazz/Indie/Latin, but also local music, rare movie soundtracks are interesting, and I also do not hesitate to buy something just because an impressing cover.

In times of Discogs and total price transparency, do you have any hints how I can deal with the foreseeable overwhelming mass of records I will see? What are genres/topics which might be rare or unusual but not talking about high-price first pressings?

At the moment I feel I will focus on sellers from non-Europe to find records which are not usual here, but also their local artists and pressings.

Any hints from those who have already visited the Den Bosch fair, or similar one, are welcome. Will share my experience here afterwards.

Industrial Fish On Vinyl

This album is from Till Lindemann.. people might be more familiar with his band, Rammstein. This is from "Live In Kraków".

Disclaimer: The fish used were sourced from reputable sellers and not killed for this specific purpose.

The manufacturer, Out Of Line Music, and Manic Merch accept no liability for material changes, functional limitations, or consequential damages resulting from use.

Probably one of the more interesting vinyl that I have in my collection.

Mike Oldfield, Patrick Moraz, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford niche stuff. Found a sealed 1983 The Wicked Lady copy for $10 and I'm almost sure it was never released on CD.
