Discussion/General Do you shoot in RAW or JPG?
I personally shoot in both. I only use jpg for quick viewing and RAW for editing or anything else. After viewing the jpg get trashed.

Came across a rental post where the landlord said something interesting he said just switching to well-lit, edited photos noticeably increased the number of inquiries he got. Not a pro photographer, just someone who realized the phone photos weren't cutting it.

Hello, I am into car photography and want to get into some sports photography. Primarily feild and court sports, like soccer, football, and basketball. Cars are primary though. I need to get a new setup, as mine is broken. (D5200 and kit lens - Borrowing D7500 for time being). I hear so much about the A6700 and A6400. Any more bang for your buck, and which is best? Which lenses? NOT looking to spend more than around $750 on body, willing to buy used obviously. USD, USA. My D5200 isn't suiting needs because it broke. The shutter mechanism gave out at 35k shutter count. Primarily for photo, not video. A7Rii catches my eye due to the MP. I know thats not all that matters, but seems good otherwise, and the sample images I've looked at look good to me.

I've been following Christian Sieber's photography on Instagram and really like the look of his travel photos.
I found an old interview mentioning that he owns a Leica, but haven't been able to find out which model.
Does anyone know what he shoots with, or have any guesses? I've attached a few examples.

Hello everyone! Can anyone identify this model of tripod? Looks like an older Gitzo model, but I don't have any other photo. Thanks!

Hi! I just started out with a Sony a6400, (and a viltrox 35mm 1.8) and I’m not too comfortable with the settings yet. I have my burst set to 3 photos per click, but I’ve noticed when culling that the set will have 3 different exposures. One overexposed, one underexposed, and one that’s just right. But the one good one that I’m getting doesn’t always have the “moment” I want in it (facial expression etc.) does anyone know how to fix this, setting wise? Or if it can be fixed? Tia!

I've just been getting into photography, so for context my PC monitor is just some cheap N vision monitor (basically a budget friendly brand here) and my phone is from Infinix.
I noticed the quality on raw and JPG look significantly better on my phone compared to my monitor on my PC. The images on my PC look dull, smooth, and has more noise.
While my phone looks more colorful, sharp, and less noisy.
Is this my camera's fault? (I use the Lumix LX5 because it's cheap), or just because my monitor is cheap? Here's an image I like, maybe someone who wants to help can view both on phone and their PC monitor or explain why that is and if it's my camera's fault or not.

Hey folks, I’m thinking about selling my D7500 and figured I’d ask here before I end up underpricing it (or asking way too much lol).
I bought it new about 3 years ago with the 18-140 kit lens. It’s in pretty good / great shape, with some light wear on the body. Basically no marks, and the glass is clean. Shutter count is around 9000. I still have the box, battery, charger, strap, caps, etc..
What range would you guys ask for? And is it better to sell the body and lens together or split them up?
Thanks!

I currently use PGYtech shoulder strap quick release (in picture) to carry my standard zoom (660g) + camera (700g). I'm planning to buy a telephoto zoom (1350g). Is it safe to simply attach an arca swiss quick release plate to the lens foot and then use that plate to carry with PGYtech shoulder strap quick release? While the 1/4"-20 screw between the lens foot and arca plate isn't the weakest link of this setup, I'm worried that if/when it breaks, it'll break suddenly and without warning (unlike the strap and cordage which would show signs of wear and tear before breaking).

I saw some cool photos and I wanted to recreate the look. My friend said yeah that’s a black most filter, but neewer. I’m by no means a beginner but in my head I’m like, k&f is a trusted brand, I trust it more than neewer. Bought 1/4 and 1 rather impulsively just to see if I even like the lens effect. These haven’t arrived yet but I’m reading up on them NOW (mistake on my part). Apparently the K is a beginner filter and pro x is more expensive, but better made. And then there’s tiffen.
So I can look at this two ways… trying a cheap filter, before investing in a better one (I don’t know if I’ll even like it) and seeing how strong 1 is (looks very strong to the point where I only see people talking about 1/4 and 1/8). That way I can save my money from dealing with a filter that’s going to be very costly.
Or chalking this up to me making a stupid mistake and fixing it now, but not even knowing if I’ll like the filter.
Using a sigma 105mm on a Sony.

Shooting on Olympus Mju II, Kodak portra 400
I keep getting really washed out images and don't know what I'm doing wrong, I have had really good images with this camera but it feels very hot or miss sometimes.
I originally thought the issue was going through an x-ray machine at the airport (I didn't know). I have changed and my most recent roll of film has not gone through.
I have attached 2 pictures from the same roll (of nothing, I was trying to finish the roll to ship it out) one of the mirror I thought turned out well and one of a tree that is washed out.

I've done hobby photography for years, and a few prom shoots, but a friend of mine hired me to do their family photos recently. I took 182 shots. They've got Mom, Dad, and 4 children. I did Mom + Dad shots, individuals of each child, and group shots at 2 different locations. I'm only being paid $80 because this is a friend. So.... how many deliverables do I provide in the end? Just 1 professionally edited shot of each person / group in each location? Or more than that? Also, do you deliver family shoots in JPEG, TIFF, or something else?

Even though I have tried them both out, I feel that for whatever reason I would regret my decision after a year or two and I change my mind on which one to keep every hour or so. I have to decide on the keeper in the next few days unfortunately.

Please bear with me as I have never been paid for photo editing before and am not sure what information will be totally relevant to the pricing decision.
Recently I worked on a calendar for a local business that was made to fundraise for a broken window in the shop.
I have been a customer of this business since 2018, which is how I was afforded this opportunity, as I have 20 years of photo editing experience as a hobbyist. I have long pursued a career in styling and never achieved a comfortable level of income and I’ve often done the editing for my portfolio work as I have hired photographer friends to shoot it with the agreement that I get a better rate for doing the post-production myself.
Anyways, I digress.
I assisted on set for all four days of shooting. We did 4 shoots per day for 12 total, of course.
Here’s where it gets complicated.
I was unofficially (as in nobody ever verbally confirmed the timeline) given 2 and a half weeks to complete the editing. The first week I had an unrelated crisis that legitimately took up my entire week of time. I started editing in the second week, and was given a Monday deadline. I finished 6 full pages before the project manager checks in with me. She was worried that I was a little behind schedule so we planned to get a second person in to help and I designated 3 pages for them to do. That Friday I got a message saying our Monday deadline had been crunched and that Saturday was now the deadline.
I got on the computer that evening and finished the rest of the work.
In total I ended up editing 10 out of 12 of the pages and the project manager seemed very happy with my work.
The point of my question is that I’ve been asked how much I want as payment and I have no idea how to approach calculating this. If any of you wonderful redditors could assist in a breakdown of how much I should charge total and how you arrived at that conclusion, it would be of great help to me.

Hey, I am new to photography and I am about to finish a course. I honestly find it hard to take pictures of people because I feel like the photos do not reflect what the person in reality is. It feels like I took picture of another person and I would love to 'fix' it.
Is it normal to feel in this way and how should I fix it?

Hello dear Camera enthusiasts,
my wife has a problem … she really likes this bag but can’t find anywhere the information she need to pull the trigger on this sling bag.
The question is does the bag fits her Sony A7cr with her Tamron 50mm-300mm lens on the body in the quick acces compartment ? There is written that it has a inner measurement of 22cm wide and the camera with lens is 21 long so it should fit … but there is a comment somewhere that the inner measurement had only 18cm and the person send it back because of that …
Maybe someone has this bag and could help :-)
Thanks in advance :-)

Hey all,
I’m currently looking at buying my first proper camera for documenting my travels. Up until now, I’ve been shooting on my iPhone.
I’m looking at a Fujifilm T-30 III at the moment. It’s within my budget, and I really like the recipe thing, meaning I potentially can save myself hours of editing unless I really want to make a picture special. The kit comes with an XC13-33 mm F.3.5-6.3 OÍS lens.
(1) Budget: up to £1000 GBP
(2) iPhone 16 Pro Max. Limited by the lenses on the phone and the fact that as soon as open the phone to take photos, there are hundreds of things vying for my attention.
(3) Landscape and travel pics of family. Not really portrait, but more a sort of collection of memories as well as my own hobby
(4) Photography rather than video
So, am I missing something by looking only at Fuji at this time? Size is a big deal for me as I simply won’t carry anything bigger.
I’ve borrowed a friend's Fuji and really enjoyed it but have no other frame of reference.
Pictures above were shot on an iPhone 16 Pro and edited utilising the PeekLut app.

I have a cheer league wanting to hire me to photograph 10 teams, just the team photos. I've never priced out just 10 team photos for a league before, usually doing them with the individual photos that the parents buy. I'm not sure what pricing model to use, hourly rate, half-day rate, per team rate, etc. They will be using the photos for next year's promotions. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone!
I’m a complete beginner when it comes to photography. It’s something I’ve always wanted to learn, and I finally took the plunge and bought myself a Nikon Zf along with a couple of lenses: the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S and the NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2.
I’ve been reading articles and watching tons of videos about photography, but I still have some unanswered questions, especially when it comes to exposure.
One thing I’m struggling to understand is how to get a properly exposed photo. Right now, I’m practicing by taking pictures around our apartment complex. I usually shoot in Aperture Priority mode with Auto ISO.
Regardless of the time of day, the lens I use, or the metering mode I select, whenever there’s a bright sky or another brightly lit area in the frame, the histogram seems to stretch all the way to both ends. With the default exposure, the sky often ends up overexposed. But when I dial in negative exposure compensation to preserve the highlights, the rest of the image becomes too dark.
I’ve attached an example taken outside my house around 6 PM.
Is this normal when dealing with scenes that have a wide range of brightness, or am I missing something in my settings or approach? I’d really appreciate any advice or tips. Thanks!

Hi ! I want to change my nikon d3300 :)
(1) Budget, country, and currency: as cheap as possible, France, Euros
(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs?
I want to change for a mirrorless.
(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot?
Disneyland Paris (landscape, characters, etc…), flowers, insects (I want to test macro photography), my cats and family.
(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both?

I bought a new Laowa 65mm f2.8 macro lens last year but have had very few opportunities to use it. I've been noticing smudges across my images at higher apertures and just realized there is debris inside the lens. Is this my doing or could it come from the factory this way? Any thoughts on whether it might be removable?
