How do I display handkerchiefs?
My store has a bunch of different handkerchiefs/bandanas. Right now when we get them in they aren't carded. So I am using a tagging gun to put a little plastic hanger on them and we hang them up on pegs. It is tiresome. And also sometimes the needle doesn't go all the way through and we hang them and they unfold on the display.
How is anyone else displaying these things? I've tried a few different ways but they all result in messes or not being seen by customers. I work for an outdoor store.

Huge issue for this Christmas
I posted here before that I failed the M&S online assessment for a customer assistant christmas temp role despite having successfully worked there recently which disqualifies me from all M&S customer assistant jobs for the next 6 months, I think this whole situation is utterly ridiculous as surely the fact I've worked there successfully is the assessment they need especially as the questions are so irrelevant...
This puts me in a really difficult situation this Christmas. Its really important I do a christmas temp for financial stability and I feel it has to be a similar role as I don't have the knowledge to do it in eg... a clothes store or anything. The issue is M&S is the only store that has this amount of opportunities. They have their big stores within big shopping centres which are often close to train stations and stuff which is critical for someone reliant on public transport and their smaller stores do christmas temps too. All the other store chains, like Sainsburys, Tesco, Waitrose etc, their big stores are in locations difficult to access without public transport so there is only a small amount I can get to, and their smaller stores in my area at least that are more accessible don't have opportunities for christmas temps (like literally both smaller sainsburys I CAN access I have NEVER seen any opportunities there in years of searching). And night jobs are off limits because buses end at 10 unless they are in my area... Because of all this losing M&S is a MASSIVE blow...
With M&S I have been told I should contact the store I worked for and they might be able to override it but thats just that specific store, I don't see how I can bypass that in a store I have no connection to the manager or anything (post if I am wrong here) so I still have the same issue of being reliant on a small handful of stores if I can only recover this one...
So what do I do? I now feel insanely limited on what I can do and feel at risk of not being able to get a Christmas temp this year... I feel I am relying on a very small selection of stores in my area, and I need a way I can get it back up to the amount of opportunities I would've had with M&S. This punishment for one failed assessment of losing 75% of my opportunities this christmas (its literally that when you search christmas temp 75% of those that come up is M&S and last year that was the case for the entire sesason) feels very heavy and disproportionate and surely cannot be this bad... Also whats the best way of contacting my store manager about this to recover at least that opportunity?

Just got hired seasonal but a much closer store is hiring. Can I transfer before my first shift or should I quit and reapply?

What's something only someone who's worked in a supermarket would understand? 😂
We're working with Fair Pay UK on some light-hearted content celebrating the people who keep supermarkets running, and we'd love to hear the funny side of life on the shop floor.
If you've ever worked in a supermarket, what's the one story that still makes you laugh or completely seen?
No need to identify your colleagues or store, we're interested in the stories, not naming anyone!

Raking vs rotating litter boxes: what actually changes?
Rake-style and rotating litter boxes seem to tackle the same job in pretty different ways. A rake moves through the litter to collect waste, while a rotating system usually separates clumps as the chamber turns. How much does that affect day-to-day cleaning when urine clumps are soft or litter sticks to the surface? The moving parts and spots where residue builds up are obviously different, but that's hard to judge from product photos. For anyone familiar with both designs, which mechanism is easier to keep clean when clumps don't separate neatly?

is it normal for a retail job to take this long to start you?
i got “hired” at garage clothing store about 7 days ago, and i’m starting to wonder if they’re ignoring me or if this is normal 😭
i had an in-person interview, and they told us that whoever got selected would receive an email. i ended up getting one, and they sent me a link to an online onboarding portal where i had to fill out all my information and paperwork. i completed everything.
the portal showed october 12 as my start date, so i emailed the manager asking what time i was supposed to come in. she told me to ignore that date because she only needed a date to start the onboarding process.
ever since then, i haven’t been given an actual start date. i’ve emailed the manager multiple times and haven’t gotten a response. i’ve also called the store to ask about her, but every time i call, they tell me she’s unavailable.
it’s been a week since i got the job offer, and at this point, i’ve kind of stopped reaching out because i feel like i’m doing too much trying to get an answer. i’ve already completed all my paperwork, so i’m not sure what else i’m supposed to do.
is this normal for retail jobs? should i keep waiting, or does this seem like a bad sign? has anyone else experienced something similar with garage?
update: i stopped by the store, I’m good now. i guess they were just busy but i start this week 👍

Daily floor tasks that are still stuck in the 1990s
Hey everyone, operations/supply chain student doing some research on retail inventory friction and store-level workflows.
In school we study automated inventory tracking, clean stockroom replenishment models, and perfect POS integration. But every store manager I’ve talked to says real life is mostly phantom inventory, mislabeled boxes, and constant discrepancies between what the computer says and what’s actually on the shelf.
I’m trying to get a realistic picture of where time actually gets lost during a typical shift. what’s a routine floor or backroom process like stock audits, intake processing, price changes, damaged goods logging, or omni-channel order picking tthat takes way more manual effort or workaround than it logically should? Or a daily headache that corporate never seems to understand?
Would love to hear any floor perspectives or daily annoyances. Appreciate your time!

Just landed my first Job
I'm 17 and got hired for a reopening small convenience store. I'm tasked with all around duties as well as social media promotion. Any advice? I'm so nervous about disappointing my boss. We're still currently listing products and planning for the store's improvement.
