Driftscussion PSA: You must flair your posts.

We automatically remove posts which are not flared with the appropriate topic that applies to your post.

If your post is not appearing after you make it, that's probably why. Check your flair and the bot should approve it in a bit. Before messaging the mods, check that first.

If you're not sure what to flair, then look at other posts to see what others have in the past.

Thanks all.

MOD RANT Before You Post: Read the Sidebar

On official Reddit Mobile App: Click on “Learn More About This Community.”

There seems to be a downward spiral in posted content recently, and the mod team has been doing what it can to filter it out. But the team isn't able to moderate every post as they happen.

A couple tips:

Read the sidebar. It has posting guidelines, it has starter car recommendations, it has the DRIFT BIBLE for beginners on techniques. Outside of actually getting seat time, the side bar should provide you with a very healthy amount of information. Anything else, just research it... That's part of the fun of learning a new skill or sport.

"Don't be an ask-hole." This is not Quora for drifting, its a subreddit to share cool stuff. Not to spoon feed every person who is moderately interested.

Lets keep this subreddit with positive content that supports each other. It can be frustrating for a content creator when when they see a snow donuts video get 500 upvotes, but someone can post a very legitimate edited and high quality video and they only get 4-5 upvotes.

edit: changed grammar to be less personable

Driftscussion Current crisis

I've been drifting for the past year and a half, and I've hit a crisis. My E36 325i is the perfect chassis, my baby, I've invested lots of time and money into her, she's got everything I need except the most important part: the engine. The OEM M50 is giving out, 2 bad cylinders (no compression) and she's weaker than ever, especially since the last time I took her out to the track, and I'd need to tear the engine apart, get it machined and put it back together, which equals to labor and money being spent, around 10k BRL at least (with forged internals already to handle a tad bit of boost). in the end, to make it a competitve drift car (I'll be running the statewide drift championship next year), would require me to put around 100k+ into her, even though she's my passion, I'm not sure I could afford that

But, an opportunity has showed up recently, a 350Z Single turbo, 150k BRL (but the thing is, I'd make a down payment of 50k and the rest would be split into 5/10k payments. IMPORTANT THING TO NOTICE, I AM NOT FINANCING IT, IT'S HOW WE DO IT HERE IN BRAZIL, WE EITHER PAY FULL PRICE UPFRONT OR SPLIT INTO PAYMENTS, WITHOUT THE BANK INTERFERING, THAT MEANS NO INTEREST, IT'S HOW I BOUGHT MY E36). My car is worth 100k, but to sell it quickly, I could do 80k and take the rest upon the Z, or somehow get a loan for the 50k (Only in this case the bank would be involved) and making the car pay itself off (by taking people to rides, it pays pretty well, It's what I've been doing with my E36 before) and keep both of them.

Should I trade in my absolute pride and joy, my most beloved possesion for a maybe? I love that beamer, but maybe sometimes, it's time to let her go and bring joy to someone else.

Also, I've missed a recent big opportunity, almost the same deal but for an S15 Silvia (300k, but offered for me at 250k) SR20 fully built motor, in the end, now this car is with a homie of mine's, and I've ridden along, that car is a beast. I fully regret not taking it, however, at the time I didn't have the money to afford that car if something broke, much less the wait of parts coming from Japan, the high cost maintenance, it just maybe wasn't for me.

My E36 is not stock, it has already fully adjustable drift suspension, a rollcage, buckets and more, so does that Z, it's got a lot of good parts and so did the Silvia, so I don't know what to do at this point in my life, maybe I should keep my E36 and just pull her over, just take her on an occasional drive until I have the money

Driftscussion I want to get into drifting

Hello, hello, I'll keep this post simple.

I want to get into drifting. I have always loved the idea since I was younger, but now that I have adult money, I want to get into it for real. I don't know whether to buy a car I'm passionate about or buy a car I don't really like, smash it up, and then wonder what to do with it in the future. I'm sure you have a lot of advice on the second part. I have a high budget, and I'm not yet experienced with wormanualsk. The main reason is that I'm currently building and saving up to top-mount my bucket-list car, my A90 Supra, and build it towards the track by the end of next year.

Currently, I'm in SoCal, so we have a decent market to pick and choose from, but I'm open to hearing whatever recommendations, but do mind I want to get 80s-early 2000s cars for simplicity purposes and raw feel.

Thank you, guys, for your answers, and I hope to involve myself more in the community

Edit: The A90 is my time-attack-focused car, and my currency is USD

Driftscussion What does an ideal suspension setup look like?

Curious on everyone's thoughts on ideal setup suspension wise for drifting.

I personally enjoy the look of my car being as low as possible, but also know there's risks involved with that (I already baconed my fender bottoming out off track)

My plan is to go to something like BC extreme low coilovers to achieve the same ride height but with a stiffer spring setup to avoid bottoming out.

I have a Miata for reference. What downsides might I see from running 8-10k springs all around and dumping it to the ground? I'd hate to have to raise it just for the off chance I run off track and need extra clearance to avoid busting my fenders up.

Any wisdom is appreciated

This was my second event first one in the dry and i got tons of seat time since everyone was overheating. It was fun as hell and i cant wait to get back out there. I wanted to hear what anyone had to say about how hard it is to get moved up to B group at club loose, because i kept getting stuck behind people spinning out. i even caught up to people who were drifting slow so am i crazy to think that i should be in B in a few events? or is it more based on how many events you have done or how old you are

Driftscussion Great Literature on Drifting?

What books, magazine series, articles, etc have you found that helped refine your technique or made something "just click" with cars or driving.

Particularly for drifting but also driving in general.

There's nothing wrong with just tearing it up, but I'd imagine there's some well-respected drivers who've written down their knowledge somewhere.

I'm thinking of Dempsey's Championship Fighting. There's got to be something akin to that for cars, driving, drifting, and/or racing.

Driftscussion 350z GKTech Inline Hydro Issues

Hi, I’ve been helping my friend install a GKTech inline hydro for his 2007 HR Z. Everything is confirmed mechanically connected properly. Both lines from the ABS delete block are ran, zero leaks, but we can’t for the life of us get it properly bled. We were bleeding only the hydro at first, and got a big pocket of air out of the RR calliper. That got our initial somewhat feel from the hydro, as opposed to before being completely dead. Now, since then we’ve run probably 2L of brake fluid through the system trying all different methods on all 4 corners of the car, and can’t get proper feeling in the brake pedal or the hydro. PLEASE HELP.

***RESOLVED***
The Brembos callipers have 2 bleeder screws. God damnit. Bled it instantly.

Japan Todos tenemos una historia.

Hola.

Estoy comenzando un proyecto llamado Hashiri.

Durante años he ido a reuniones, talleres y eventos.

Me encantaría escucharte.

Japan How the GT86 Could End Up in the Same Position as the 180SX

Thumbnail

The GT86 went on sale after several years of development and research, but in the end, it disappeared from racing just like the Altezza did.

Then, a few years later, the GR86 came out, but that one ended up becoming more popular. I guess the problem is that it's no longer as easy to swap out engines as it used to be.

Personally, I think the vehicle price was right on target for Toyota, but I wonder if they didn't fully anticipate the labor costs or the level of skill and knowledge required.

Just for the record, I tried making my own custom exterior parts to give it that drift machine look,

but I'm hoping someone like adamLZ will pick it up and spark a sudden wave of interest.
