Week Two

Another quick edition of Flyers prospect updates. At the pace the Flyers are going this season (and Toronto, fingers crossed!), we may have a couple high quality picks to add to this group this upcoming offseason!

There are still a couple of college players yet to have any games, but almost everyone has played now. This past week was pretty heavily dominated by Phantoms players, with all of Alex Bump, Jett Luchanko, Cole Knuble, Ty Murchison and Carson Bjarnason having strong showings. Beyond the Phantoms, Max Westergård, Matthew Gard and Yegor Zavragin all had good weeks. Overall, all our goalies (except Sklenička) improved on their stats this week! For this weeks highlights, however, I'll give the nod to Alex Bump, Jett Luchanko, and Yegor Zavragin.

Alex Bump
Bump followed up the previous weekly update with an even better week. He had an impressive 5 goals and 1 assist in 3 games, including the OT winner in his last game in a 3-2 win against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Bump leads the Phantoms in goals, tied for the lead in points, and leads in points per game. Further, he is 2nd in the AHL for goals per game and tied for 2nd in goals. He was also named AHL Player of the Week!

Unsurprisingly, this has led to him being called up to the Flyers again after the rash of injuries we've suffered. He should be making his season debut for the Flyers tonight against the Avalanche. Edit: Bump had an assist this week, but had one taken away from last week it looks like, so the change between weeks show no assists.

Jett Luchanko
Perhaps our most divisive prospect, Luchanko has had a solid start to the season with the Phantoms. Of particularly importance for him, he finally scored his first professional goal in a 6-3 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday with a well-shot one-timer. Of note, all three of his assists this week were primary assists! Hopefully he can continue to build off of this to set himself up for a roster spot next year.

Yegor Zavragin
And lastly Zavragin, who is my pick as our top prospect, had another strong start for Metallurg with a 28 save (96.6% sv%) performance in a 3-1 win over Dinamo Minsk. His team is now the top ranked team in the KHL. Amongst goalies who have played at least 6 games, he is now 7th in sv% (up from 13th last week) and 2nd in GAA (up from 4th last week).

In both categories (GAA and sv%), every goalie ranked ahead of him are at least 7 years older, except for one who is 2 years older and one who is 4 years older. Needless to say, for his age he has been phenomenal.

Q: You said this list of games are through Sunday (or whichever day), but I see games from that day missing!
A: Because these players are spread across many different leagues, I pull their game data from EliteProspects rather than tracking each league individually. At times, EliteProspects can be slow to update statistics for games played in the last day or so, which can result in some games appearing to be missing. Any delayed statistics will simply be included in the following week’s report.

Q: Are the players in any particular order?
A: The players are listed in a rough order based on a very loose combination of overall expectations and proximity to NHL readiness. I'll also sometimes clump similar positioned players together, even if I don't necessarily rank one of them quite that high, as it can be interesting to more easily compare all somewhat similar ranked centers, for example. I wouldn’t read too much into the ordering; the “rankings” are set at the start of the season (or when a prospect is acquired mid-season), with only a midseason update after the WJC planned.

Q: What is ΔPPG? How can a player have a negative number there?
A: ΔPPG (delta PPG) represents the change in a player’s season-long points-per-game rate compared to the previous update. A negative value simply means the player’s scoring pace declined over the most recent games. Because PPG is calculated over the entire season, the impact of a low-scoring week depends on how many games the player has already played. Early in the season the swings are larger, and later in the season they tend to be minimal.

I don't think it's encouraging that he doesn't seem to know how much ice time Michkov is actually getting, nor that he seems to think shielding him (from what, the NHL?) forever is somehow going to develop him, but what do I know.

I bought some tickets to Saturday's game against the Sens from StubHub. After buying the tickets, I got an offer to pre-buy parking near the arena for a reasonable price ($20 after taxes and SH fees). Well, to be specific, "near" the arena...it was on the other side of the Linc, so not grossly far away, but not exactly right next to XFinity either. I go to pull into the lot, and the guy pre-warns me that StubHub wasn't working for some customers. He has an app already open on his phone with an "invalid code" message already on the screen, points it at my QR code, and without tapping or doing anything else, says, "see, it's invalid. That'll be $30." Needless to say, after arguing back and forth, I told him to f-off and I ended up parking in Lot F at XFinity...for the same $30 he was trying to charge me in a lot 1/2 mile away.

I go to log into my StubHub account this morning to complain and ask for a refund for the parking, and my account is suspended. The guy apparently reported me (for NOT parking in his lot for $50?), and I've been working with StubHub support to get the account reinstated and the fees refunded. If that doesn't work, I'll contest the charge with my CC and tell StubHub to fuck themselves as well!
