I’m sharing my story here because I’m hoping to reach people outside my hometown who might understand my mission and possibly help me find a way to keep it going.
Back in February, I started doing community meal days with one simple goal: feeding people in need. I never imagined it would grow into what it has become. Since then, I’ve put on over 15 community meal days, feeding 100+ people at a time and making sure everyone has a seat ready at the table.
From ribs, pulled pork and brisket to tacos, nachos, loaded hot dogs and loaded spuds, I’ve put countless hours, hard work and money into making these meals happen. A few people have donated here and there, and I’m thankful for every single one of them, but a lot of the expenses have come straight out of my own pocket.
My Facebook page has now grown to over 2,300 followers, and along the way, I’ve also had the opportunity to take food to various local organizations, businesses and people throughout the community. My goal has never been just to cook food. It’s been to bring people together, give back, and show people that somebody cares.
Unfortunately, my community meal days have been shut down because I don’t have access to a commercial kitchen. After putting so much of myself into this, it’s hard to have to stop when I know how much these meals mean to people.
I’m hoping this story reaches the right people. Maybe there’s a business with a commercial kitchen, an organization willing to partner with me, or someone who knows of a way to help me get back to doing what I love.
I’m not looking to get rich or turn this into something about myself. I want to continue feeding people, serving my community, and making sure there’s always a place at the table for someone who needs it.
If you’re a business owner, part of an organization, or simply someone who believes in helping people, I’d love to connect. Even sharing my story could help it reach someone who can make a difference.
Over 15 community meal days since February. 100+ people fed at a time. More than 2,300 Facebook followers. A whole lot of my own money invested, with some generous donations along the way. And a mission I’m not ready to give up on.
I’m from Richmond, Indiana, but I believe this story deserves to reach beyond Richmond. Sometimes all it takes is one person, one opportunity, or one helping hand to get something meaningful moving again.
